Loved that attraction. I couldn’t believe we boarded what felt like an actual subway underground train. Should have kept it and upgraded it.

Recently talked to a former employee for Earthquake and Disaster. According to him the reason they shutdown this ride is because of it being outdated to the current time we are in and as well the technology was to expensive to keep up with meaning the water, fire, sparks, smoke ETC effects. In my perspective it doesn't make much sense due to the fact the technology has advanced over these last 3 decades since it opened and there are solutions to whatever problems they had. On top of that almost every ride at Universal Orlando has some type of effect involved in it for example Revenge Of The Mummy using fire and smoke. Maybe I am wrong though,
One thing the majority of people can agree on is that it's replacement was an all out "Disaster." Another great ride gone to the dogs.

I was lucky enough to be a part of the pre show but don’t recall it having the rock in it. I had to wear like a straight jacket and just stand there then a dummy would be dropped

The reason why you don't remember the Rock being in it is because you got to see and experience the original pre-show before it was changed to the new one called Disaster that starred the Rock in it.
The part that you volunteered for was from the original Earthquake pre-show and the scene that you did was from a scene from the original movie Earthquake that starred Charleton Heston in it, which Charleton Heston was your host for the originalEarthquake pre-shows. There was a scene in the movie Earthquake where part of a high-rise building was on fire due to the earthquake, as well as the staircase that they were going to take to get down was also destroyed during the earthquake.
So to get all of the people that were trapped up above, they used a chair and long fire hose to lower the people down to where the rest of the staircase wasn't destroyed. In the scene that you did, they show how they add matte paintings behind the physical sets to make them look more real.
They have somebody "lower" the volunteer, which I'd the dummy that you were talking about. The person that lowering the volunteer accidentally drops them, which is where the guests from the audience see the dummy falling, making them think it was really the volunteer. The volunteer then would come back out with a torn safety vest.
The reason why I know and remember this is because I have what they call a photographic memory. As well as I rode the Earthquake ride a lot when I was younger. I really hope that helps you out! 😀

@@TheatreFanatic1982 thanks very much I thought it was before that because I last visited in 06 so thought Bryan had his dates wrong. But when he said they added the pre ride attraction it made me doubt it. Cheers for that

I have a question about that: what is the capacity of this ride ? It's only one vehicle right ?

Earthquake 1974 is almost 50 years old.

I enjoyed the original version when Charlie Heston was in the pre-show and I'd never seen _Earthquake_ the movie. But don't replace it with that bogus _Fast and Furious_ ride.
