He cut it out due to a lover's quarrel with the actress.....which is a shame. I think this is one of Chaplin's best endings!.....along with City Lights, Carmen (on my channel if you're curious), and Shanghaied (also on my channel if you're curious). I'm glad to meet other Chaplin fans out there! The original edition (MK2 and Criterion both have it) is totally worth watching!! Thank you for the comment!
amazing! Thanks so much for uploading this! I've only recently become a fan of Chaplin...I didn't know too much about him...I guess i still don't. will anyone ever? It would've been amazing to meet him in that time he became the Little Fellow-he seems such a wonderful character-charming, talented, wise...seems to have the lot :)
I suggested you to read some biography. There are countless book about him, but you could start with the one of David Robinson "Chaplin: his art and life" that, in my opinion, is one of the most accurated and really well written.
Thats why?!...ive been watching all of Chaplin's movies lately.. and so far i had watched The Kid and City Lights and they both end without the expected final kiss with the girl and i just thought "well he just wants to leave those final kisses to our imagination". I actually downloaded The Gold Rush without even knowing there was a re-release version im so glad i found your video after finding out about the original version. Thanks for the upload this ending is awesome i LOVE chaplin
I don't think there was a "final kiss" to be had between the Tramp and Edna Purviance in THE KID. They were never romantically linked in the story. In fact, Edna will probably re-hook with the father of her newfound young son.
One has to give Chaplin credit for not filming a pat ending to the story (then, as now, American audiences typically loved "happy endings"), whose actual end is apparently Edna negotiating with the Tramp about visitation rights. Edna is no doubt grateful that he looked after her lost child for several years and that he'd been a good father to the boy despite his poverty. But he would agree that little Jackie is better off with her now that she has achieved financial independence and can provide for the boy in all the ways he couldn't.
It was Chaplin himself who changed the end much later when he restored and narrated the story. Later he filmed Georgia again for City Lights but never used it(see Unknown Chaplin) Kind ragards Blacksmith Filip Ponseele-Belgium
Me too, i wish i was born in 1800s women dressed up nice , and kind, and , beautiful . Today 2019 the world is going down to hell. It is very sad , i love classic movie, to retreat my tress out with the world right now.
Charlie, the sly dog. I just was reading about this. Apparently, a scandalous affair ensued between these two during filming. By this scene, Charles stated later, it "wasn't acting".... Explains that shit-eating grin right before he kissed her. He broke character he was so damn excited
Thanks Madison! Good observation. Clare, just go on Amazon and buy the MK2 edition. It has the original 1925 version, the 1942 re-issue and tons of other special features. Totally worth the purchase price:)
Criterion Blu-Ray...has both the original 1925 film (with this clip) and the 1942 re-issue with narration, along with some other clips...such as interview with Georgia Hale in 1980.

The version I uploaded is from the m2k edition....which can be found on amazon.com Criterion also has the original 1925 version (also can be found on amazon.com), though I haven't watched it yet, and am not sure about the accompaniment music in that version. I highly recommend the movie! I have a few more details in the "About" section if you are curious.
The theme of LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON (1957, featuring Gary Cooper and Audrey Hepburn) absurdly appears in this supposedly "original" ending. Later we hear "Auld lang syne" for good measure.
Me too but l wish that l was born in 1896 to have more years to enjoy the 1920's. I love this time period. Just a wonderful time in history, clothing, movies great and wonderful actors and actresses. 🎥❤❤❤❤❤🎥❤❤❤❤❤
Chaplin did a re-issue in 1942 that became the go-to ending due to his love entanglements with Georgia Hale. You can surely find it on YouTbe, it’s subjective, but I think this is the better version.
I just love how the Tramp looks at her after she tells she will pay for him
I love it...
I love this ending. So sweet. The Gold Rush is one of his best movies.
Charlie Chaplin he was handsome back he was in his early 20's. He os funny and good actor. Rest in peace Charlie Chaplin.
He was very handsome
He was in his mid 30s when this was filmed
He wasn't in his early 20s in 1925
Yeah......no words.....simply amazing!
How cute is this
The face of a man in love.

Yes. The ending from City Lights was phenomenal

xactly.. they had cut it.. shittt.. this scene was so so beautiful .. and it expresses that love feelings and emotions is more imp than photoshoot..

Really??? I never knew that!!!
蛤~唉~
Yeah, and a few months into filming, Lita became pregnant with his son. Georgia was her replacement. Certainly a busy man.
Georgia Hale wrote a book about their relationship.
Charlie Chaplin: intimate close-ups.

I'm pretty sure this was the ending that was used in the final product
(。ŏ_ŏ)?
What?
I've never seen the one without the narration, do you have the whole thing?
Criterion Blu-Ray...has both the original 1925 film (with this clip) and the 1942 re-issue with narration, along with some other clips...such as interview with Georgia Hale in 1980.

If this is the Original Ending, what was the replaced ending?
