I think in English when a girl is on her period I hear this phrase a lot. "It's that time of the month."

Yeah! But, you should not ask a girl if it's her time of the month. これはちょっと失礼と思う wwwww

I suggest that you agree to take turns in learning the two languages daily. Speak only in pure Japanese one day (the whole day), then only pure English the next day. Do not mix. Watch together a Japanese drama or movie one day and an English movie the following day. Then converse about what you have just watched in its respective language used in that movie. Discuss some cultural differences between your two nations after watching the said movies or dramas. Also travel to Japan, away from the cities to force your boyfriend to use only his skill in Japanese. Also you have to meet your boyfriend's circle of friends and family more often and try to communicate in English.

I might have a few suggestions for you if you're interested, Layla Sensei. I had the exact same problem with my brother. He was able to speak English spectacularly well around the time he was 18 thanks to his education and the importance my family put into learning different languages. And I was 13 years old at the time with no skills in English whatsoever. However I basically forced him to talk to me in English 😂 and learned from our conversations slowly as well as from the things I picked up through the stuff we'd watch like movies and tv shows. But our issue was that over time we created this bizzare language with its own slang words that don't exist in neither our native language nor in English 😂 just like how it is with you and your boyfriend right now. So we made sure to speak only in one language at a time and that nothing we said sounded like a horrible translation from one language to another and my brother would always correct me if I made any mistakes, be it in the sense of how natural I sounded or another. And then we adhered to the same rules with my friends when they wanted to practice with me which helped both me and them. So actively making the effort to be aware of those mistakes and correcting one another actually helps tremendously and in doing so you really start paying attention to many things in your speech even in your native language. And when you speak a different language long enough you start getting rusty with the other, even if it's your native language so I'm sure your boyfriend will also need to keep speaking in English with you in order to prevent himself from forgetting too much, although I presume it will happen inevitably to some extent as you guys live in Japan and, from what I gather based on the things you said on your previous podcasts, will do so for some time. In short, my suggestion would be sticking to one language at a time and being mindful about your mistakes. You could do one language on one day and the other on another day. Or you could talk in Japanese in the morning and English at night etc. And mindfulness is really the key to decreasing the amount of mistakes you make in my opinion. And lastly, I'd like to stress that relying too much on speaking practice can decelerate your progression speed as daily conversations tend to have a very limited amount of vocabulary used and a language is much more than that so exposure to your target language through other sources like tv shows, books, news is really important but it is hard to make time to learn a language as working adults, so I understand 💜

    そうですね、月経はperiodです。
    [駅は忙しい]って面白い (笑)。。。まあ、[賑やか]のほうが英語のbusyに近いと思います。
    最近私も自分の母国語に日本語を混ぜる癖になりました。仕事のせいか。。。

Consider getting a pop filter for the mic. The mic looks so bald and I can hear all the aspirated sounds.
