I've loved this truck since they built it, amazing it's still around and still looks brand new. Factory custom concept jobs are just the cleanest and the most tasteful around, these guys were artists.
I put a 5.8w HO crate engine in a '71 Ford Maverick Grabber. Badass monster of a legal street car.
I had a subscription to Fast Fords magazine, and this made the cover back in the day. Happy to see it’s still running down the road.
More great videos from Revan. Nice catch!!
I bought a Ranger in the early 90's. Paid like $8900 for it new. drove it for 147,000 miles over the next 16 years.
Bought it with the express purpose of putting a 347 SBF in it, never got around to it.
At the end of 16 years it still looked and drove like new. (I was a detail fanatic back in those days and detailed it once a month or so).
It was a bright green color, had many people stop me to ask if they could buy it because it would have made a great hot rod in that color.
I currently have an 05 ranger edge with 265,000+ I bought new for $12,000, would like to fit a 5.0 from an expy donor. The sonic blue is what caught my eye on mine, personally I think these are great little trucks that are overlooked.
@@theclubhouse1209 Totally agree with you and wished I hadn't donated mine to my nephew. He just trashed it and discarded it.
Your project sounds like fun.
A great piece of Ford history :)
Always love that little truck as well.
Cool truck. I don’t recall ever seeing this truck back in the day Thanks for sharing
Love this truck! I bought a new Lightning back in '02, and that thing was a beast. Almost got me in trouble a few times lol. Time went on, and I finally sold it a few years ago. Now, I'm driving my Dad's '01 Ranger, that I inherited when he passed, and would like more power than the stock 3.0 can make. And always loved this style of rims on the Lightnings, and they look great on this truck. What to do...
I remember this truck! I think if they had waited for the 3V 4.6L to be developed, this would have made a cool late 2000's production SVT vehicle. It would have made for a nice send off for the little Ranger.
Hard pass on ANY 3V, lol
@@02autogt What issues did the 3V have? My old one ran like a top.
@Tornado1861 None for practical purposes. He's just another internet keyboard expert parroting what he's heard about vehicles he's never owned. My cousin owned two s197 GTs, one blown and one turbo'd, raced them at the strip AND on the track, and they both went 150k+ miles before he sold the second one, bought an 18' Coyote & never looked back. He still talks about those cars though.
@02autogt you're confused with the 5.4 3v
SVT made some quite interesting concepts back then. This, the Thunder...so sad they never went ahead to production.
But on the bright side, the fact they made it just confirmed it was possible. And it looks hella cool!
My ‘03 Mustang GT was sonic blue, one of the best colors ever made.
The only thing I don't love about this truck is that it is not sitting in my garage. What a cool build! So well executed. I love this color as well.
Awesome to see in person at the SVT Homecoming last month!
I’d love to own that truck. I had a blue 1983 ford ranger v8 swap in 87 I was 16 that was a fun truck
I would love to see this truck in person. This was the epicenter of what got me into modifying trucks instead of sports cars.
The 95 cobra ranger was another cool one
Just so cool. What a special concept, and to see it built IRL. Neat man. ❤
I remember this truck, too bad they couldnt bring it to production. Then later on they had the Explorer Sport Trac Adrenalin concept truck with the 03-04 Cobra engine, would love to see a video on that one as well!!!
Great video awesome truck love learning about Ford's history Ford powered forever baby keep on pulling the knot out of them boties and the horns off them mopars l love it
I was racing Lightnings and R/T Dakotas back then. I would have been thrilled to buy one of these.
Oh, if only!
What a truck
Seeing this really makes me miss hot rodding in the 90s
Good stuff Evan... Ford and Dave brought this truck down to Tulsa for the Shelby event one year... great build... and great seeing Dave Dempster again!
Thanks Jeff
Wow! I'm amazed this still exists. Thanks for sharing. Now I wonder whatever happened to the white Bronco with a first-gen Lightning drivetrain that Ford was taking to events around 1994. I loved that truck. And talk about something that would have been a snap to put into production! Ford brass missed a great opportunity by not greenlighting it.
What other white Bronco was infamous in 1994? And you seriously asked this question?
Ralphie approved
Haha.....replicating this would be a cool thing to see you build! Love your channel (and your family!) Josh :)
Sleeperdude out of nowhere😎 I was literally googling this truck the other day trying to figure out what happened to it.
Super nice truck, sounds amazing too. Good to see it still around. I remember another concepts like the Force 5 and the awesome Powerforce... It was not speed oriented but its design is still unmatched 20+ years later. I'd love to see a coverage here if still exists...
Evan great work brining my Favorite magazine, Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords to UA-cam. Please do a deep dive on the Super Stallion, the new transaxle mustang makes it very relevant.
I'll work on that. Thanks. Bringing MM&FF to life is actually how I try to the do the channel. Thanks for noticing. Be sure to share the word and help us grow.
@@revanevanWill do, I will never forget project frightening, or the trifecta of Cobra R's you tested. MM&FF was my first mag subscription and made the John Colletti Ford era my hero cars. First car was an 85 Hatch 4cyl I bought when I was 15 for $600 and drove it home where the V8 swap took place. I will definitely spread the word about your fantastic channel.
This was right around the time they made the concept, can’t remember exactly, think it was the boss x or 351. I remember it had the V10 triton.
Ever tried to do an Explorer XLT 5.0 to 5.8 swap? The whole platform didnt suit the Modular 5.4 engine unless the ESP program was sorted to suit. It was like the Crown Victoria quad cam or fitting a 7.3. Ford had to do some Heating and Ventilation HVAC changes to fit the Modular in the body and service the engine.
yes ford did do it. i saw the proto type when i was working a ford dealer in so cal.
They really should have made this
This is a nice looking truck. It doesn’t look purple at all to me. It looks like a beautiful blue.
For SVT the Coletti years were probably the best, the lightning and terminator cobra changed the game. Sonic blue not "purple" 😆..c'mon Evan you outta know better.
Wow that would have been awesome 👍👍👍👍
Is it for sale?? Luv to have it. Bad ass nostalgia. Thanks for finding this rare prototype!! I remember finding an article where they put one in a Thunderbird too. Can you find it, please.
Badass
I own a 2002 ford f150 thunderbolt had it since it was new it's 21 years old and it's in mint condition
Nice!!!!!!!!! 👍👍
Bill Deister, now with @motorcitysolutions, is behind the wheel. Paul Gourdinair was the Roush fabricator for the intake and headers
@motorcitysolutions1700
Bill is a good friend of mine and I thought that was him.
I did something similar to this with a 2000 Mazda B2500 and stuffing a 4.6L DOHC in it from a Lincoln Mark VIII.
This! Ford could have made it much more feasible with a motor and transmission that could have fit the production sheet metal with frame and suspension mods.
Damn Evan give the guy some space. Geez 🤣
Thats an awesome truck. Nice.
Was thinking of doing this with current ranger.. only using a Whippled Coyote.
Amazing trucks.
Love this truck but would REALLY like to see the one they built with the Explorer 5.0!! Recently built one myself keeping it as factory appearing under the hood as possible...
Awesome video.go Ford 💯
I love this truck
This should have been a production model. Imagen how many they would have sold. It would have kicked all other brands to the curb. With the reintroduction of the range why not now. I would buy one. How about you?
Would have had a Ford GT price tag and still lost money on every unit. The more sold, the more in the hole. That's why it didn't roll off the line.
Thank you for your knowledge and videos USA 🇺🇸 USA 🇺🇸
Awesome truck, the only thing that ever bothered me about it is the lightning bolt on the side wrapping around and going into the narrow part of the bed. Should have started the bolt above the front wheel well so it stops on the door.
When Ford was fun an innovative. Rarely, if ever, do you ever see anything cool like this out of Ford anymore.
Flat plane crank Shelby GT350? Race car for the road Ford GT? Le Mans class winning GT LM? Mustang GTD? Absolutely beloved Bronco reboot? Are these not fun or innovative enough for you?
Except the Raptor R? Mid 3’s 0-60 nothing even remotely close from Chevy and the fiat trx gets dusted too
@@PASquaredFord GT and Mustang GTD are limited and extremely expensive. Your argument is invalid using those examples. Now, bringing up the GT350, you have a valid point.
@@CoyoteFTWRaptor R is nearly unaffordable. Maybe for upper middle class.
@@B49nope I mean, yes, they are expensive, but at least they were actually sold to the public, unlike this Ranger Lightning Bolt, unlike the Super Stallion Mustang, unlike the Boss 10.0L
Intake reminds me of a whipple
I would love to see the underside of this thing
NICE !!! Ford should have built it.
That's bada$$
❤😊😂 that’s one hell of a sweet Ford truck that ranger I like that I wish they make them like that so it spanks the Chevys in the Dodge
What did it run in the 1/4?
Come on Evan you should have known that was Sonic Blue it's not purple LOL
Ford should have kept the older pushrod 302 it would have bolted right into a Ranger
What actually is the weight?
Ce pikup avec un coyote twin turbo doit être très intéressant 🙏😑🤲🇫🇷👉👤
Love that ranger! Really a shame they couldn't build it. In fact its sad that Ford Killed this Ranger and we were without one for so many years. Today, the blow billions on EVs without turning a profit so they could've built this bad boy and had a performance truck family. I'm sure the Dodge boys ran into some walls when they wanted to build a hellcat...
Ok, you give me truck. I drive
that would have just killed the lil cyclone gmc truck lol
Tout ce passe sous le capot et les frein suspension moteur aux max voiture pur stoc ok brotheur
says the splash trucks were purple...then shows an image of an Edge....lame AF.
First
I had cash in hand to buy that very same Ranger, if it were to come to market. Yet again Ford disappointed me....
In reality, I bet the thing handled like crap. ~400 more pounds in the front end with the 5.4, blower, exhaust, heavier suspension components and wheels/tires. With the heavier transmission needed, heavier frame, diff, and wheels/tires out back, way too much hp/tq on a short wheelbase with narrow track. Too heavily weight biased in the front end would make it plow and want to swap ends. Ford would have lost money on every unit with a Ford GT price tag, and then lost millions more in lawsuits. Probably would have been hard to actually measure the 0-60 and 1/4 because you would not be able to get any traction. With all that said, I could clean out some junk in my garage.
I wonder what the stats are on this thing? 0-60 and drag times.
