  • This video explains how I like to export stems out of Ableton 10 in order to deliver tracks exactly how I produced them. If you are sending stems to a mixing engineer or sending stems to a collaborator this video is for you.

Thank you, just a thing, the proper recommendation for export sample rate and bit depth should be explained same as your protect. Ideally we should all work on 32bit and 48k

If you include return and master tracks and bounce the individual tracks then your master chain is working on each indivisible track and not as a sum of all the tracks together so the master bus compressor and limiter will be triggered differently 🤷‍♂️

question: if you're a noob like me and you just put effects on the tracks themselves or the group tracks without knowing send and return exists, and you want to export your tracks dry, I guess you're screwed right??

@@JosephineDeSmet i meant you add effects to your channel to design your sound in a certain way...you look for a flavour...so there is no harm in bouncing your tracks with your effects on...i don't see a reason why you are screwed ...that's what I meant

Im really sorry if im super stupid but I did not really get the point of why you would export all individually rather than all of them at once? Sorry im also not super advanced really .. but Id love to understand since Im trying to send my ableton project to someone but it doesnt seem to work XX Thanks for your great work!

I think the reason is so that individual tracks that are in a group, are then each rendered as an individual track/file instead of all tracks in the group rendering to one file.
Also it makes organising the tracks easier when you have to import them as the naming will start with the type of track rather than the name of the song.

So I exported each stem individually through the master but when i import the stems to a new project it all clips as if the signal didnt go through the master in context with all of the other instruments. any ideas on how to get around this?

so you dont freeze or collect all and save or anything?

    • @xDRAGONSHAGGERx

I believe you don't have to do this because when you export, live will render the sound played by midi tracks to an audio file. Then you can still adjust midi track parameters in your project.

im curious but why did you create a master group on all your tracks for a mix engineer? doesn't the mix engineer mix the track then masters it?

  • @km-es6vd

OK, well what about the Master? Do you turn off racks on master or??

    • @SubThiel
      @SubThiel Рік тому

      Depends!
You want a ‘hard copy’ of your track(s), to avoid let’s say plugins not working in the future, you bounce with master effects turned on.
If you want to send you track for mastering, you turn master effects off.

    Nice Video.Regards from Portugal.
I Have a problem i need Help for this
    Can anyone explain me ?
In Protools i bounce several tracks
in a group track with all pan worked
but i dont Bounce in Stereo, i Bounce
    in Multiple Mono.
Than i Open a project in Ableton Live
and import the 2 Mono tracks for 2 tracks in Ableton
i assume the 2 tracks together its a Stereo File in ableton right ?
    in Ableton , the 2 tracks i put in Center ( C )
Than if i want export again the 2 tracks in Ableton
    but in Multiple mono ?
    In Ableton i only see ( Stereo ) or ( Mono )
if i export in mono one track than the other
i need to change the Pan all to Left and the
other track all to R ?
Or i export the 2 tracks in Center ( C)
    Preserve the Stereo fild ?
Ableton dont have Multiple Mono L and R
    Thanks !

Hello, thanks for the video. but i have been a longtime user of Ableton 10 and i do not have the option to include returns and master. Is there a problem with my setup?

Probably it’s because of your ableton version, on the site it says that u need version 10.1 or later

Why do you have 2 "Masters," is there any benefit when bouncing stems by making a second one?

I need to know this too. Was it because of the automations he did on that bus (master) track makes it included in the stems when exporting rather than having it on the original master track?

so wait im in live 9. you mean i dont export the returns at all as stems? i just go through each track soloing one by one as i export and dont need to export the returns or anything? plz help im so confused lol. Is it because the returns are baked into each track when i solo and export like that? so no need to include the returns?
