I forgot to say I initially expected to secure the interface with Dual Lock, so I was going to use a Switchcraft 12A for the guitar input jack. As I had to screw the interface to the frame that meant I had to use an insulated jack. You can use a Switchcraft L12A with the insulating washers if you prefer.

Sometimes i think i'm more interested into making weird things with eletronics than actually playing the guitar. So yeah geek it all out, we are here for it!

I dream that you would make a video that explains roughly all the different part of an amp from the beginning of the signal path to the end.
I don't understand more than half the time, and yet I find your channel so interresting to watch.
Thank you sir for sharing all that wisdom!

I love getting lost in the weeds on the technical aspect of guitar amps and pedals. It's literally a marriage of my favorite things; DIY electronics, physics, and playing guitar.
Also, seeing the attention to detail in your work is like therapy to me, lol. Working in electrical maintenance in an industrial setting, it seems like every other day I'm opening up a panel or enclosure and just wondering how on earth it's even remotely possible for the other people I work with to screw things up to such a degree that I begin to question my own sanity. I like to know... No, I NEED to know, that there are people out there who still take pride in their work so that I don't give up and quit giving a shit.

as someone who took up engineering to pay for my guitar habit, I'd enjoy more vids like this.

Love your Channel specifically for all the geeking and nerding out. Your many years years of experience, pragmatic approach, and insightful views are incredibly valuable. We all want to make good decisions and spend our money wisely, particularly on what brings so much joy to our lives. 🎸 Thanks

I'm sure that the "normally open" pins on jacks are obvious to many people here, but I had no idea that this functionality was there. So cool! Will definitely use it in the future :)

At the risk of being the Well Actually Guy, they’re called normally closed connections. So the Tip and Tip Normal are connected until you insert a plug.

I have the same Truetone power brick and it’s served me very well indeed. One suggestion is to put clear scotch tape over the printed text (“9v 500mA”) as it tends to scratch off fairly easily.

Haha, nice to have these send and return jacks sitting perfect side to side to just ronnect them :D
I use two seperate patch boxes on my board. One is just the input jack going in and coming out on the other side. I added a parallel out jack in case I will play acoustic guitar on the stage again, so the sound human can get their signal right there. Had an A/B box on there for a long time, but as I never used it I just tossed it out.
Same as yours with the inputs tip shunt bridged to the ground.
The second box is for the cable loom to my amp, so it have the boards output and the footswitch jack there. Also there's the 24V input for my power distribution system which is in this box and puts out 9V and 18V. The whole board is just the tuner and dirt stuff, so just daisychaining for the power is totally fine.
The input box is a Hammond 1590LB and the output/power box is a 1590B like yours.
I also had spare DC jacks and insert points for years, but it turns out I never use them in a live setting. So I got rid of all this stuff, cause at home at the workbench or at friends homes I got plenty of outlets and power supplies around.

If you are really pressed for space in a rack shelf or on a pedalboard, can you use those snap-together right-angle 9V DC plugs without the back cover and a couple of layers of heat-shrink instead? Nobody seems to make flat DC plugs.

I find these videos very helpful as a beginner in electronics and someone who'd like to create his own patch cables, interface boxes, and wire my own boards... so thank you Lyle for all the info and links to materials. Quick question/clarification: did the green Voodoo labs adapter connect to the red 2.5mm cable for the Stomp? I've always used the adapters provided by Truetone. One of the things I don't like about the CS6 and Line 6 product line is the multiple adapters you have to use. If I can use the Voodoo Labs green to 2.5mm red, I'll go that route.

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  2 місяці тому +1

The trick is to put a 2.1mm plug on the straight end of a Voodoo Lab 2.5mm cable, wiring it tip negative. Then connect to the current doubler splitter to two 500mA outlets as shown.
After this video I replaced the two straight ends with right angles so they don’t stick out. Because it was bugging me.
But yeah, using three CS6 cables is a drag.

Wear some leather gloves & eye protection when you drill holes that size. If that bit grabs onto the box the box will spin around. All bets are off as to whether you come away unscathed, bruised, cut, and or slashed. Cast aluminum can be some very grabby metal when you drill into it. I have a camlock drill press vise. Line the vise with some heavy cloth or leather so you don't bung up the box.
