I grew up in and still live in the Eastern Ozarks of Missouri...I've never been lucky enough to find a Clovis point, but I've found numerous Haw points and similar points. Years ago, my sons found a really nice Snyder point in our backyard made of a greenish colored flint. An archeologist with MODOT looked at it and thought the flint may have come from eastern Kansas.
I was on that project too! I'm not sure if we ever met; I'm standing on the left side of the photo, wearing a red shirt and a bandana. I got there only a few weeks before the project ended, and that was the only time I ever worked that far south. Thanks for sharing information about the site. You don't always get to hear the good stuff as a shovel bum.
The "practice pieces" you showed reminded me of similar objects we found during an archaeology field class I took back in the summer of 1971 on a Fremont Anasazi site in southwestern Colorado. We had some fireside discussions about what they might be, and finally decided on that old standby "ritual objects." Your explanation makes more sense.
Very interesting! I live in NW Arkansas, I’ve got several overhangs and caves creeks within walking distance from my residence. Also I’m close to kings river and Osage river. I’ve only found one calf creek point out of thousands of points. It was such a treasure. It was laying on a head height rock ledge that naturally descends to bottom of a 12-15’ waterfall,30-40 yards below a overhang. I’m sure the next hard rain would of washed the point of bluff into the small stream from waterfall. The majority of other types of points found on surface below this bluff overhang seems to be adena type points.
Excellent information man. Appreciate you sharing first hand experiences. I think it’s pretty neat you worked on something that somewhat provides evidence of the plant resources that were part of the ancient diet. Always solid content from you thanks for that
Thanks for the insight into the archeological process. I love learning about the ancient people you're studying but it's also really cool to see pictures and learn the story of the modern humans doing the legwork
Recent excavations of historic site just north of Spring Creek related to the highway project. Are you in agreement that the Bison migrated E to W as much as N to S and thus wintered in the Ozarks and followed the grass west to calving grounds? There is a "buffalo wallow" on the grounds of Smith Field in Siloam Springs. August in NWA - Humidity is our middle name.
Been watching a lot of your videos, bro super awesome quick question if you could choose one site in North America to give funding to either expand or dig deeper, where would it be?
I'd rather get funding to go back to a bunch of collections that were excavated but never analyzed. There's a bunch of Ozark bluffshelters like that where the assemblages are on the shelf but there's no money to hire someone to do the analysis.
Those notches are so deep already. It seems so risky to try to widen them. I see the scars widening to the center of the piece, but did they also widen it to the more delicate edge direction as well?
What other points might be associated with the Calf Creek? I've seen tiny Big Sandy's (not sure what to call them) that share the same heat treated gray pink cherts. From the same sites.
So what time period do you estimate that the Calf Creek era was? From What you were saying it seems like 3500 BC? I do a lot of work at Calf Creek Sites in Arkansas. Have you encountered any above average height skeletal remains at any of the sites that you have worked at?
Ive never seen a modern napper get those deep notches without using copper. What tools did the ancients use to make those? Oh youre talking about it now
@@NathanaelFosaaen I absolutely believe what you say using evidence in your videos. Ancient Florida cultures being different from other Ancient Cultures North of Florida. I find Ancient North American Societies very interesting.
It's usually a lifestyle issue. Not everyone likes the idea of moving from job to job and company to company for years and years. Once that happens your options are usually to get promoted into an administrative position or to find a new career.
@@NathanaelFosaaen why take something simple and easy to say and computer in the mind like inches, pounds, feet, yards, miles and make it a multi syllable, high number affair? Its way easier to be 6 foot tall than it is to be 182.88 cm tall. Thank god jefferson kept that jazz from being adopted in america. Thank god when i call for lumber or concrete its still feet and yards. I dont understand american youtube channels that use the metric system when 90% of their watchers are americans. I say it like this, there are two kinds of countries in the world, those that use the metric system and those that sent 24 men to the moon. Those with a 2 trillion gdp and those with a 20 trillion gdp. Now yes i know most industry and govment use the metric system america, but still, this country was built by feet, pounds and yards and it works very well for americans in everyday life.
if you had a delorean and got it up to 88 miles an hour and went back 10,000 years in middle america and met the people there, do you think you would get out and say hi i am nathanael, i am from the future, i have dedicated my life to learning about your way of life, your culture, art and spiritual beliefs, and they would say, hey bro, whats up and shake your hand and hug you and make you their honored guest? Or would they be like, yeah whatever you say doushe bag, welcome to the jungle future boy and grab you, tie you to a tree and jam heated deer antlers in your eyes and cut your belly open with dull stone, and yank out your liver and eat it in front of you, then set you on fire and laugh hysterically as you scream in horror? Or do you think they would see your blue eyes and blond hair and worship you like the ewoks worshiped C3PO and bring you all their virgin girls so you could get jiggy with it for the next year or two?

Great breakdown, a little bit of me misses working in that tent city.

Thanks for the link on the Calf Creek presentation, it was great. Also, passing ingested chert chips sounds horrendous.
Thanks for great Calf Creek info. Amazing lithic workmanship. Please keep sending us great info!!!
Surfboard fin placement, quantity, and design comes to mind.

Ooooh notch practicer pieces thats pretty great. Are they always configured like that? Are you sure they arent useful maybe sinew cutter or something.
have you been to the kinlock shelter bluff in north west Alabama? I have questions about the rock carvings
Sup with the hammock inside, sir?
Just curious as to why you didn’t include Florida in your area of expertise?
It's very different culturally. Especially in later periods.
