I know Adam's reviews are brutally honest and unapologetically cutthroat. So, to see him genuinely excited and happy about a film I was certain he’d hate and dread watching, you can trust he’s being 100% authentic.
You liking this movie makes me so happy. As a Brit Robbie here is a big name. And to hear you talk about this movie in a positive vibe is so cool. I hate musicals also. I can cope with Oliver at Christmas. Or Johnny Depps Sweeny Todd. But otherwise they’re not for me. After this I might have to give my guys film a go. Great review as always.
We get so many musical biopics these days there are sanitized and follow the exact same formula, which is what makes Better Man such a huge surprise. As someone that wasn't too familiar with Robbie Williams, I thought this movie was bombastic and emotional the entire way through. Glad you dug it too. Great review, Adam!
Yeah, this movie was brave enough to take chances, and thankfully, those chances paid off! I was very impressed by how fantastic this movie was. Great movie!
I have not cried so much, so loudly, so disrespectfully for so long, in a LONG ASS TIME. This movie had no business mainstream releasing in January. It is my first 5 out of 5 for 2025 and most assuredly would have been my #2 or #3 of 2024.
Thank you SO much for this recommendation! I loved this movie. I’ve been watching your videos for quite some time and this was one of your best reviews/recommendations. Thank you!! ❤
American here.. huge Robbie Williams fan. I've watched it 3 times. I knew about 85% of the movie but not about his father. His nanny and him were close and that broke my heart. Very well done. Not your typical musical but so honest. I cried on some scenes, shocked at other scenes and happy in the end because I know where he's at now in his life. ❤
loved to hear your review! I've watched the movie twice already and it's fantastic! the story is completely true, without sugar coating the main character. the music was placed in an amazing scenes where you can understand why this song fits the scene. I love Robbie, seen him in 3 shows in 3 different countries (also already have a ticket for the tour next year). I would highly recommend anyone to give this movie a chance! it will surprise you!
So it last night. I loved this film!! Darker at times than I thought it would be, but it was his life! And it was a RIDE of a film, and like you said, some real bangers!!! The music was awesome. Now to double back and listen to his music today, is on my list of things to do!!!
I absoluted LOVED this movie. I was turned off by the premise of Robbie being a monkey - and I didn't know his music at all. Halfway through the movie - there were tears rolling down my face. It was raw, vulnerable, and honest. It was my favorite movie I've seen in a while - and I've seen all the top 2024 movies (the ones that will nominated for Oscars).
Thanks for the review Adam ! This it's one I'd normally be interested in either, but I've been hearing so many positive things I started considering it. Knowing that for better or worse Adam is going to put his "O-pinion" out there ;) sealed the deal for me. I'm sorry the shitty comments people leave. As someone born well before even MySpace I often feel like the comments I'd like to make are weird or not framed for the internet (like this), so I don't leave any. Your real talk about all the negative in the comments of your videos inspired me to go ahead and be weird out load. I enjoy your channel Sir.
Loved your review! There are only 2 kinds of people. Those who never want to watch the film, and those who absolutely loved the film. I saw it twice already and plan t go again. Best movie I’ve seen in years, maybe ever.
I'll watch it again too. I was scared that it would be like the Greatest Showman, which I personally just didn't enjoy others did and I am glad they did. To me it was just visuals, overprduced singing, barely any plot and no character I could really relate to or was rooting for. I totally found parts of myself in Better Man although I am not a popstar from the nineties and early 2000s and I am also not a drug addict.
So glad you liked it, I saw it when it came out in Australia a few weeks ago and loved it. My favorite of 2024. Robbie is more well known in Aus but I didn’t know much about him and his past. I wasn’t expecting to love it due to the fact I don’t love modern movies. I wanna watch it again. and you get used to the monkey so its not distracting, you don’t even think of it.
I’m a 50 year old straight white American. Not sure why I felt the need to give that disclaimer. But I had tears like 10 minutes in. I laughed too. This movie will probably go down as one of the biggest “flops” in movie history. But it’s not because it isn’t amazing. It’s just because, like you going in, it repelled people because of the subject matter, the cliched bio-pic sub genre, the person it’s about, etc. it’s a shame because they really knocked a bonkers (bananas) idea out of the park. It’s a better film than The Greatest Showman, and not enough people will give it a chance sadly.
I agree. You don't need to have a Robbie obsession nor be interested in musicals to like this film. It is visually spectacular at times and yet feels so raw. There is so many topics in this film that everyone will find some aspects that they can relate to. GO AND WATCH IT!
@ yeah I mean his life has been very different from mine, but the overall story, the insecurities, the want to be loved, the self sabotaging, the tribulations and triumphs, and hopefully the eventual acceptance, forgiveness of others and yourself, and coming to peace with all of it, isn’t that pretty much what we all experience?
Hadn't any plans to go and see this movie but now I gotta. Don't know who this Robbie guy is but we'll see. Another good video from this chum. It's pretty good. Pretty, pretty good.
This was a visually impressive movie. I had no idea Robbie Williams was in a boy band. I guess you would have to be from the UK to have known that Better Man does follow the same tropes as so many movies about entertainers. That being said I really enjoyed this one.
I've been a US Robbie fan for 25 years so I was highly entertained by this film and the monkey gambit paid off bigtime. I do wonder how well the film is performing stateside because there was only one other patron in the theater.
If any of you want to see un-chimped Robbie in his Take That days this is an excellent performance: ua-cam.com/video/t_lsyX9PzGk/v-deo.htmlsi=Z8UhP_qhjZrDn-6v
Damn, after seeing the trailer before every movie for the last couple months I thought it looked terrible and I had zero interest in it. But after this review I might check it out.
A major motion picture about someone one in the world that literally no one has a clue exists outside of the UK. Technically instead of a bio-pic that would make the film like another Walk Hard -The Dewey Monkey Story for the rest of us. There might be entertainment value looking at it from that lens.
I believe you when you say it’s a good movie, but I refuse to spend my time and money on something so blatantly self-indulgent and manipulative. Using a chimpanzee to represent the main character feels deceptive-it evokes sympathy from animal lovers and awe from those who fear animals, or both, neither of which Robbie Williams deserves. It seems like he’s using the chimp persona as a shield from judgment for the inevitably messy events in the movie. This is exactly why I believe biographies and biopics should never be produced by the subject themselves.
I’m happy the movie was good, but is it ever explained narratively why he’s a played by a CG monkey? Or do we just have to accept such an obvious gimmick being used to get American butts in seats, because they never heard of this guy?! Sorry to be cynical, but I expected some explanation of this. Or maybe he morphs into a man by the end of the movie and it was for a reason. I just can’t get past the obvious gimmick part. But hey, if it worked it worked! Otoh, I’d find it hilarious if this one has a ton of success and Hollywood just starts using CG animals for every musical biopic going forward. For no plot reason at all 😂😂
There are various reasons… Robbie has always seen himself as less evolved - psychiatrists state you are mentally stunted from the age you become famous. He was 16. Robbie felt he was a performing monkey - especially when he was desperately mentally unwell and forced to fulfil his performing contracts. Robbie has a song called Me and my monkey (check it out sung at Knebworth in front of 125,000) - a song about the ‘monkey on his back’ - the addictions. The monkey WORKS! Trust me
@ it’s just weird I guess if they don’t use that in the movie to explain it. I’m having a hard time getting past it and I thought Adam would too. But a good movie is a good movie. Thanks for letting me know those things. I didn’t know much about him except for one song that got big here in America during my youth. I’ll have to check this out eventually and see if it works for me
@ then don’t turn it into a musical fantasy then. At some point it felt like PG-13 the Greatest Showman, and at some point it felt like an R-rated Elvis movie.
Interesting. I'd be going into with the exact same attitude. Can't stand musical biopics. Don't care about this musician at all. And a CGI chimp as the star just looks stupid. Alas, everyone so far seems to like it. I'll wait for streaming tho.
@ChrisNaworocktsie too much money and time for a movie I have no motivation to watch. If it comes on 1 of my streamers and I'm bored enough to give it a shot, I might.
Adam actually happy and has a smile on his face, This must be a good film

Robbie is big in most places in the world...not sure about northern america though
Was pretty big in Europe aswell. We had german MTV in the 00s and his songs were on all the time.
I'm an American and only somewhat familiar with Robbie Williams, but the more I hear about this movie, the more I want to see it.
If you wanna see a unique and creative bio pic, then you may very much enjoy this film. I sure did!
True, you don't have to be a fan of his or biopics or musicals. It just works. Go in just experience it. 😊
No ape on woman action - because we actually learned something from Howard the Duck.

It was released in the UK on 26 December and a limited US release on 25 December.
It showed first here in Australia as it came out Boxing Day (we are a day ahead of the UK so 26 Dec here is a day earlier than 26 Dec there)!
Robbie Williams’ movie is way better than his music. And I’m a fan of his music! Best movie I’ve seen since RRR. 10/10.
