Imagine an official Xbox podcast to to announce exclusive games coming to other platforms and not reveal them for an audience that not in your ecosystem. This shit is wild. If this doesn't make any sense to you imagine if Sony announced four A-AA exclusive PlayStation games (cuz they aren't giving any AAA games) and releasing them as *sloppy seconds* because.....they want to sell PSN, a service we all only really buy from cloud save. Games sell two things: console and GPUs. Games are not TV shows, they don't sell services.
Not saying it's prevalent, but there are people who buy services for games even if they are delayed. I used to be a PSNow subscriber on PC. I've never owned a PS3 or PS4, only a gaming PC. I played Infamous for the first time on that service. Even played some classic PS2 games I never beat back in the day like Shadow of the Collosus. At the end of the day, I think it's about options. Whether Xbox is able to actually make money from this strategy is still to be seen.
I wouldn’t be shocked if with the growing costs of video games Sony will follow aswell. More money for them and these companies will probably go the route of selling their consoles based on their services and console power. Exclusives for consoles are gonna be a thing of the past

As for Sony's big boss he stated he is very down of bringing Playstation content to pc and day and date is very possible and logical to keep things afloat.
He didn't mention simultaneous release except for live service games, which we already know about. Right now they're on a 2+ year cadence and some games haven't made their way at all, like Ghost of Tsushima, despite being way older than that. That's money left on the table. I think what he was indicating is that the cadence might lessen, but that every studio needs to consider a PC version from the start so that they're not spending a lot of time porting.

whether those games sell or not, more are coming. If they sell, they send more to PS and Switch. If they don't sell, they'll send better games. It's a snowball effect but there's 4 snowballs.

SOT and grounded were very popular on PC and Xbox with 20-30 Million+ players. I think he knows they will also be very popular on other consoles as well. 2 gaas and 2 small niche games.
When game pass was launched with the series X Phil, Spencer said Sony isn’t ready yet per game pass as to imply that Sony would bend the knee in the future. And now in this commentary Phil Spencer is saying that the natural place for games is multi platform as of to imply that’s the future and so he’s trying to position this as Xbox is just positioning themselves Ahead of a competition to make their multi plat when in fact, the problem is they can’t sell games that’s why they have to now ask Sony to have access to Sony’s consumer base, and the Nintendo consumer base, because they have been unable to build their own.
I’ll play Forza Horizon and Halo MCC when they come over. All this other stuff, I don’t really care about. You can update Evil Within 2 and Dishonored 2 to 60 frames though like you did on your system.
As a person firmly in the PlayStation camp the only Xbox games that I care about is Halo, Gears and maybe Starfield. Since those "probably aren't" coming to PS5 I'm looking at a Series S or wait for whatever new hardware they announce later this year

I think you're right but I knew that wouldn't be one of the games. The reason why is if you remember with ABK deal it came out Xbox had redid the Indiana Jones game contract with Disney to be exclusive to Xbox. The same with Starfield they brought the company and shutdown the Playstation version they were playing to work on. So some information is out there to make educated guesses.

They confirmed all xbox and abk games coming to gamepass day 1, that means Hellblade 2, Stalker 2, Avowed, Indiana Jones and New COD marketed by msft hitting gamepass day 1 in 2024. Sony has no major 1st party release during holiday 2024 and reports suggest Switch 2 could be 2025. If, and I mean if msft executes there is a window to get some momentum in console and GP subs. As for subscription business. GP is growing very slowly, but in fairness ps plus has lost millions of subs. We don't know effect of Abk or ramp up in xb 1st party releases. We just don't know, it could 44mil go subs by end of 2025 who knows
I believe friends are a big reason for the systems you buy, but I can't agree with the game library argument. I think that's a cop-out from Microsoft. I've owned dozens of consoles and handhelds from all three console makers as well as many PCs. I haven't lost any games from my library. I can still load up all of them on the devices from that family I already own. I have PS2 discs and a PS2 I can plug in if I want to. I can't play my DS and 3DS carts - or my gamecube mini discs - on Switch. I couldn't put UMDs in my VITA. There's an open question with Switch 2 if it will be backwards compatible at all (recent rumors indicate some backwards compatibility of some sort). If you had a PS4 with digital games and really liked the look of MS games this gen, well you still have a PS4 and the digital games. You still own the games; they didn't disappear. I own a Duke and a 360. If MS made a compelling enough pitch to me for next gen's XBOX I'd buy one. Simple as that. They just haven't the last two gens.

Sony and msft compete against one another but they need one another. Sony only generated 600mil profit last qtr. Reports suggest poorly rated COD MW3 dales down 25% vs MW2. That along could.cost Sony close to 100mil profit. If Sony loses even 10 to 15% marketshare of COD because it is going to Switch 2, Gamepass and msft has marketing Sony will.lose hundreds of millions pure profit over time. Sony paid millions for COD marketing and paid timed 3rd party exclusives because it was effective. Msft will now take abk, Zenimax games market them, make them timed exclusives and put them all in Gamepass day 1. The loss of sales and profit when/if these xbox IP that used to be day 1 ps5 bring to Sony when they finally release will be far far less. In September of last year they automatically converted all their XBOX Live Gold members into Game Pass Core subscribers and there were somewhere around 10 million of them. They have confirmed to the Verge that she included Core subscribers. It hasn't grown for two years, which is why its growth was removed from Satya Nadella's bonus incentives two years ago.

Games sell two things: console and GPUs. Games are not TV shows, they don't sell services.
Not saying it's prevalent, but there are people who buy services for games even if they are delayed. I used to be a PSNow subscriber on PC. I've never owned a PS3 or PS4, only a gaming PC. I played Infamous for the first time on that service. Even played some classic PS2 games I never beat back in the day like Shadow of the Collosus.
At the end of the day, I think it's about options. Whether Xbox is able to actually make money from this strategy is still to be seen.
I wouldn’t be shocked if with the growing costs of video games Sony will follow aswell. More money for them and these companies will probably go the route of selling their consoles based on their services and console power. Exclusives for consoles are gonna be a thing of the past

As for Sony's big boss he stated he is very down of bringing Playstation content to pc and day and date is very possible and logical to keep things afloat.
He didn't mention simultaneous release except for live service games, which we already know about. Right now they're on a 2+ year cadence and some games haven't made their way at all, like Ghost of Tsushima, despite being way older than that. That's money left on the table. I think what he was indicating is that the cadence might lessen, but that every studio needs to consider a PC version from the start so that they're not spending a lot of time porting.

I think you're right but I knew that wouldn't be one of the games. The reason why is if you remember with ABK deal it came out Xbox had redid the Indiana Jones game contract with Disney to be exclusive to Xbox.
The same with Starfield they brought the company and shutdown the Playstation version they were playing to work on.

Sony Corp is not happy with that business update . They confirmed all xbox and abk games coming to gamepass day 1, that means Hellblade 2, Stalker 2, Avowed, Indiana Jones and New COD marketed by msft hitting gamepass day 1 in 2024. Sony has no major 1st party release during holiday 2024 and reports suggest Switch 2 could be 2025.
If, and I mean if msft executes there is a window to get some momentum in console and GP subs.
As for subscription business. GP is growing very slowly, but in fairness ps plus has lost millions of subs. We don't know effect of Abk or ramp up in xb 1st party releases. We just don't know, it could 44mil go subs by end of 2025 who knows

I believe friends are a big reason for the systems you buy, but I can't agree with the game library argument. I think that's a cop-out from Microsoft. I've owned dozens of consoles and handhelds from all three console makers as well as many PCs. I haven't lost any games from my library. I can still load up all of them on the devices from that family I already own. I have PS2 discs and a PS2 I can plug in if I want to. I can't play my DS and 3DS carts - or my gamecube mini discs - on Switch. I couldn't put UMDs in my VITA. There's an open question with Switch 2 if it will be backwards compatible at all (recent rumors indicate some backwards compatibility of some sort). If you had a PS4 with digital games and really liked the look of MS games this gen, well you still have a PS4 and the digital games. You still own the games; they didn't disappear. I own a Duke and a 360. If MS made a compelling enough pitch to me for next gen's XBOX I'd buy one. Simple as that. They just haven't the last two gens.

That along could.cost Sony close to 100mil profit. If Sony loses even 10 to 15% marketshare of COD because it is going to Switch 2, Gamepass and msft has marketing Sony will.lose hundreds of millions pure profit over time.
Sony paid millions for COD marketing and paid timed 3rd party exclusives because it was effective. Msft will now take abk, Zenimax games market them, make them timed exclusives and put them all in Gamepass day 1. The loss of sales and profit when/if these xbox IP that used to be day 1 ps5 bring to Sony when they finally release will be far far less. Sony has razor thin profit margins, msft is attacking Sony's ability fund AAA 1st party games without risk. If Halo, Starfield, etc become popular with ps5 players eventually when they release on ps5, why would msft put any of these IP sequels on ps6 first 3yrs when install base is low.
