    About this Channel:
I hope you enjoy beekeeping and this video. If you are interested in becoming a beekeeper or experience backyard beekeeping for yourself have a look at some of the videos on this beekeeping channel as well as videos from beekeeping creators I have listed below.
Although this beekeeping channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than beekeeping on this channel.
    A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. That means I am bad at quite a few things.
I hope you find my beekeeping videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. If you do enjoy my videos, please take a moment to spread the word about this channel and help it, and myself, grow. Have a great day and BEE Happy!

    A bit about my channel:
This channel is primarily about beekeeping or more specifically beekeeping 101 because I am just a beginning beekeeper and I figured the best way to learn beekeeping and to be a beekeeper was to buy a flow hive, sometimes spelled flowhive or a flow hive 2 which is sometimes known as a flowhive 2 and begin building by backyard apiary so I would have a place to keep bees. Now, backyard beekeeping is not the only thing I do. I consider myself to be urban farming as I also try to grow a sustainable and edible landscape. Backyard farming for me also includes keeping chicken and building other things in my shop that will help all of the birds, bees, insects, and other natural pollinators. I learn how to feed bees and chickens while showing you my day-to-day activities in my apiary, sometimes known as a bee yard. Some people consider me a prepper and yes there is a little truth to that. I do consider this a form of prepping and becoming self sufficient. Thank you for spending time with me learning about tap hives, flow hives, honeybees, and chickens.

    Always enjoy your videos.
Just a note on nails, you should see the glue vs nails testing that was done by duck river honey. In his testing he showed that the nails are not necessary at all as boxes and frames put together with glue alone were equally as strong as glued and screwed.
Would certainly save a bit of extra labor!
For one hive or two, not a big deal, but 5 or 10 gets into hours of extra work

For frames, I’ve found nails in the side prevents eventual failure, nails in the top and bottom are more likely to separate when full of honey or brood.

I have found the same thing. I usually blast the sides with my nailer when I build them. Thanks for stopping in to have a look and taking the time to share a tip. Take care.

It looks like a nice hive for what it is. Just wondering if the view in the windows will be somewhat limited with activity. Seems that most activity takes place in the middle of the hive and less on the outside. Especially after they have filled the honey and capped it. Am I wrong about that?
I have seen a few folks build observation hives, but they were full glass sides on one side of the hive and it was about 6 feet tall! Wondering if it would be better to have the glass on the end instead of the side? Maybe like the open end of a flow hive when you crack it to extract?
I guess there really is no good way to truly get a real good view inside a hive based on the openings between the comb. Very tight quarters is how they like it!
Thanks for showing us! Was good to watch what the offerings are out there.

      @BugFarmerBees  8 місяців тому +1

These hive are great viewing or showing your bees without disturbing the hive. It is also a way to see if the girls are drawing out end-comb which is a good indicator they are utilizing their space during a flow and have a good idea if the super is full because the girls work the outside frames last. It is important to understand that this is NOT an observation hive like you would see indoors or for teaching purposes. This is a live hive for the bee yard. Thank you for stopping in and having a look and for taking the time to comment. Take care.

@@johncoleman6218 Easy to build. Just one rectangle within another. Spaced just so the end bars are held vertical at the correct distance apart to easily insert the top and bottom bars. Too bars first then flipped over, remove the inner rectangle, add the bottom bars.

I used glue on the frames, not the hive. You cannot glue waxed dovetail or finger joints. It would be pointless.

We’re told to avoid Chinese manufacturing, but I’ve found really good quality for a great price out of some of the Chinese produced bee equipment. I think, like everything else, there is poor and amazing quality and you just have to look to for the gems.
