His name is Florent Pagny and he's a singer with a large vocal range and the show he always prefers singers who can really sing (Whitney, Mariah, Celine Dion vibes)
That’s exactly it. At the beginning he said « Il y’a du grain » and essentially said her voice is grainy. He wanted to hear tone from her and not just the ability to tell a story with emotion, but rather to channel that emotion into a sound that truly evokes the meaning in a flamboyant and clear manner. He himself knows this kind of music well.
