As someone who works with brands and reaches out to potential partners like you to work with them, I found this funny and educational! I'm glad I don't word my emails this way anymore (I was literally given templates like these to use LOL) and I think more people with platforms should voice their opinion on partnerships, etiquette, and such so brands can learn how the industry is changing. Unfortunately, some brands really don't respect the work of some "influencers"/ artists. Hoping to see more meaningful partnerships as time goes on.
One of the biggest real respect Cristine and Ben so much is that they totally could do all these ads or sponsorships just for money, but because they have such a high level respect for their viewers/community. Yeah about Established Titles, if they just drop the 'legal' and 'official titles' stuff, it's gonna be another novelty/gag gift that can be used as inside jokes between friends or families. But they let creator said something along the lines of 'youre legally a lord can use that in legal document like passport or things', so thats probably the 'scam' part.
I had a guy try to pick me up by talking crypto 😂 I have a shiba, the dog breed the internet knows as doge. I was sitting outside the grocery store with my dog, and a guy walks up and comments on my dog and asks to say hi to her (not uncommon, she's stinking cute). He then goes like "oh did you know there's a cryptocurrency called doge coin", and starts telling me about what doge is (I have a shiba; I know) and about the currency. As soon as I can get a word in I say "yeah my spouse bought a couple just for fun since we have a shiba". As soon as I mention my spouse his face falls and he walked off. Dude, even if I wasn't in a relationship... Crypto is not flirty small talk!!! 😬
My neighbors in Scotland went by lord and lady from the same premise as established titles. They were the laughing stock of the town. Lots of us own land/houses in Scotland and we aren’t so arrogant to demand to be spoken to as lord or lady 😂😂 they were oddballs in many other ways too

@@johndododoe1411 that was a joke.😅🤣 I know they sell books on how to raise babies, buuuuuut back in the day "they don't give out manuals on how to raise children" was a phrase said in jest in order to indicate "I'm doing the best I can with my knowledge." And the whole point is that yes they sell manuals, but none of them agree, in the same way that adults cannot come to a consensus on how to properly raise a child *without screwing it up* ...hope that made sense
The ticketed live event one sounds like Moment House. If it is y’all should look up the drama between Moment House and Good Mythical Morning.... it’s a lot. Seeing that this is how the advertise themselves is awful
I bought my cats both a title. They are now Lord Ollie and Lady Izzy. It cheered me up on a very bad day. However, I don't think they actually own land in Scotland. I'm surprised more at the fact that people got so up in arms about it. Like, did those UA-camrs actually think it was real? So ridiculous.
As far as ad reads in podcasts I alway skip them (except for back when the J&J podcast was going, Julien’s segues were 😘) ads from regular UA-cam videos I also usually skip unless it’s someone funny like Danny Gonzalez or Drew Gooden because they normally do a good job of making the ad read entertaining.
I always skip the ad reads. Out of curiosity, can creators see when viewers skip/fast forward in a portion of the video? I know you can see when we click off a video but does it get that nuanced?
I love taco Tuesday 🤩new podcasts especially when I’m depressed love the fact it says no views no likes HELL YEAH ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ first to love on y’all
I very rarely don't skip through an ad read. I'll watch them for people who I want the algorithm to think I watch 100% of. And I hate when creators will give like two minutes to cooking their food box and mix it into their content 😭
I have noticed that sometimes when I look at my account it will have a line that says this looks like a reoccurring payment in red. I thought Humm kind if cool to know. But also I saw one of those ads the guy was like I had 3 Hulu accounts ummm how did you do that? He must be the guy you see driving around with his gas cap hanging and the door open because he forgot to close it right after pulling the gas out.
I'd prefer if all of these companies would send me their adverts in 12 emails rather than having to listen to the same ad read in almost every video and podcast I like 🤣
Unfortunately I'll never really tolerate ad reads, personally. I think sponsorships should be alright, but ad reads are very often *multiple minutes* of someone trying ridiculously hard to sell you a product because they want to be sponsored again next month. If I watched TV, I would mute ads, so why should I listen to multiple minutes of ads - especially if I already have to endure numerous ads throughout the video? There's a certain point where it takes away from the content. Not only that, but it also alienates viewers from a different country where whatever service or product you're advertising isn't available. Brands most likely know UA-camrs are willing to drag their ads out for the pay. I used to listen to UA-cam videos to fall asleep, which is the only instance when I might not be able to skip the ad... but I don't really like the idea of being advertised to when I sleep. C'mon.
I got an Established Title Lordship for my bf as a christmas gag gift before it was exposed as a scam. Really big youtubers advertised it and it was still 40€ with their code . I dont know should I give it to him or not...🤔
tbh, i was more bothered by the idea that established titles bills itself as a conservation effort but may in fact not be helping much overall. i think most people get that the "lord or lady" title is kind of a joke, or at least that it would be a technicality and not a real, actionable thing you could take advantage of.
i wanted that lady/lord and land when i saw an ad , only because they said it can be put on your legal documents so i didnt think it would be a scam for that reason. 😂😂
I definitely skip ahead. Probably 80% of the time. One UA-camr (Nick Lewis) whom I really enjoy recently made it where I couldn't skip forward on his sponsorship. I was annoyed but I get it
@simplypodlogical Please look up the Quebec parents who are suing fortnight because their kids are addicted to it!!! Podcast topic…ridiculous things people sure for
Ben talking about Meghan and Harry made my day. I just watched the begining of the show and I had the same reaction as Ben.. they r hilarious.. like imagine being so self centered and make a documentary about yourself... it is made so dramatic and cringe... 😂😂😂
there's so many singers who have documentaries now, some have actual interesting things to say (related to either mental health or the industry) but some are really trying to make the most out of nothing, it's interesting to see the gap between the two
I'd kill to see the scottish titles sales figures even after videos like these where people are critical. you'd only need 100 people to go "huh that sounds like a fun idea for christmas" for them to make $5k in sales (not saying you have any control over that, just as a point of interest) I actually think ads are still just as powerful, especially if people associate the product with a parasocial relationship. like "I'm gonna get these shitty headphones to support the creator I feel close to" ads just on a website are far less effective than ones that are integrated into content that someone feels emotionally invested in. it's kinda insidious.
I HATE sponsorships, but I do support them in true crime channels where we know they often don't get monetised because of the topic of crime and keywords that automatically puts them in no money zone, which is kinda infuriating considering that those people like Stephanie Harlowe put soooo much work into their videos, so I will listen to every sponsorship she presents. Luckily she specifically is very considerate and only promotes very decent sponsors, mostly stuff she uses herself
I always skip. I intentionally skip certain creators who have scattered mid roll ads through a whole video. Plus run several sponsored ads which the creator/s read. It’s losing its power with me with many, not all, but many creators.
Instagram is getting ridiculous. I'm a very small local artist (less than 1k) and I get these inquiries regularly. Even more hilarious is that my freakin CATS insta account gets sponsorship request 😂
maybe Established Titles wasn't completely a scam, but they definitely falsely advertised and purposely misled people to sell what is essentially nothing. They used the word "official" too many times to make it clear that it's a gag gift
They definitely misrepresented their product through the ads they allowed UA-camrs to run. Words like “official”, “legal”, and “real” would give people the impression they are buying more than just a novelty “name a star, donate to charity” type gift. If not illegal per se, wholly irresponsible.
I'd say it's likely more a scam than is being talked about because everyone focused on the lord/lady thing -- and focused on "sillyness" of what likely small minority of folk that thought it made them royalty vs. the more common comment that thought it gave them the legal right to use the title Lord/Lady that they otherwise would not have -- and not researching more into their other claims - According to a land blogger/researcher (Andy Wightman iirc) who looked at the land records, they only own 55.7 acres that only cost them 37k pounds. (which is under 2.5mil "1 square foot plots") -- they claim hundreds of acres of land - There's no figures on exactly how many customers they had, e.g. how many plots sold - to find plot coordinates, need to separately contact them with email + plot number - The 2mill trees planted figure is from December 2021 (per waybackmachine) via one charity (trees for future), who's average cost per "tree" is *25 cents* (they provide education and seeds, not clear when a tree is considered a tree) - The 2mil trees planted figure was on their website in Dec 2021 but was replaced with "Over 42k pounds donated", so... did it cost them 500k$ or a lot less to plant those 2mil trees...? o.O - The other tree charity is one tree planted is 1$ a tree individual rate but no figures on how many planted via them - They have an 8$ monthly plant *one* tree "pledge" that is autochecked by default but ... 25 cents to a dollar for a tree with the charities they work with - 50$ is the average min price, but plots went up to 300$+ on the assumption it was really helping, or 100$+ to get a physical framed certifake - See Lady of Library's video on a Scottish perspective on why this is culturally insensitive /not helpful - Tree planting can not help the ecosystem if done badly, see various deep dives on this on youtube So it's likely they aren't preserving they land they are, they are overall not looked as helping per Scottish commentors, it looks like barely any money (compared to how much they raised) are going to help the world, despite that being a key part of their sell. The thing about youtuber creators is that information about this being a scam is years old as this has been a scam, so most youtubers either didn't care or aren't considerate of their users money -- which considering how many people are struggling, that's uggh. On they saying this isn't harmful (in the podcast): it is, see LegalEagle's end of video take on this -- it wasted a lot of money that people thought were giving to a "good cause" that could have gone directly to help the world, and it's broken a lot of trust of viewers in sponsorships, making it harder for more legit sponsors/creators to make money.
The Jenna and Julien podcast was the channel who I wouldn’t skip ads for because Julien had the best transitions in to the ads and it fully made me engage with the ads. Like while the J&J podcast was amazing, somehow he made it where you were actually waiting for the ads to slide in 😅
To offer a take from someone who has used Established Titles as a customer, my husband surprised me at the end of our wedding ceremony with this so we were pronounced Lord and Lady rather than Mr and Mrs, which I loved. For context, the wedding vibe was fantasy/medieval so it suited us, and now it's become a really fun and silly inside joke for us and everyone who was at our wedding.
@Slaniakii besides , you could have just printed those tittles yourself and ask the guest to call you lord and lady . And you could have planted a tree yourself. Where I live there are efforts where you can enroll into a tree planting program and go one day of the weekend to plant like 20 trees , thats way more usefull and inexpensive
Ben, please don't worry about 'being out of original content'. You guys and your take on things IS the original element that keeps us coming back. (Besides Menchi). The AITA episodes might not be original but are my favorite because of the funny and interesting conversations you have about the posts. Keep it coming pretty please. Love podcast 🧡
A gag gift is something that is an obvious joke to both the giver and receiver. Something they can laugh at together. A scam is deliberately deceitful. I never got an established title, but I'm not comfortable with how the conversation has been turning toward the people who believed the advertisements and purchased what they thought was a really cool gift. Many won't care, but it's probably making a lot of thoughtful people now feel embarrassed or ashamed for "falling for" a trick. Fifty dollars is a lot of money to a lot of people, and it seems like we're taking the heat off of the company who was taking advantage of customers who believed the UA-camrs they watch regularly. I'm not saying customers thought they could travel to Scotland and everybody would start calling them Lord or Lady, but a lot of the advertisements were very specifically pointing out an actual, physical plot of land that you would own and saying your plot is near my (the UA-camr's) plot. So, if they don't own that square meter or foot of land or whatever, and a tree is not planted on it, then a lot of people have been scammed, and that's not okay just because the consumers didn't have the education or experience level to know the advertisements were false. (And those who did think they would technically be a Lord on paper shouldn't be ashamed either because company spent millions(?) of dollars making that the main talking point through hundreds of UA-camrs.)
I guess the moral here is to not be so gullible. Nothing excuses a crime but if someone truly thinks they can receive a title by paying $50, like sorry, you deserved that 😂
@@billyjean3118 One of my friends got this as a gift for his 25th birthday from his girlfriend about 5 years ago. First, he had no way of knowing how much it cost her. But also, coming from a country that has no such nobility, how would we know? If someone states the fact that lords are simply land owners, I'd believe it. Why not? It's not my area of expertise. If someone claims it's theirs, I tend to believe them until given indications to doubt. Similarly in my field, I don't expect people to understand that Dr h. C. is an honorific academic title that doesn't actually require a person has a PhD or MD.
@@billyjean3118 They definitely do. Because mostly they don't even know what the h. C. stands for. And there are sadly fairly malicious cases where the Dr h. C. themselves claim to "have a doctor title" to make themselves seem more authoritative. Many people in my family don't even understand that my doctorate doesn't make me a medical professional (because none of them went to uni). I explain it and most have gotten it in the meantime, but it went straight over the head of some.
I think Simply was trying to talk about how in the past, if a content creator had a sponsorship they might get a lot of shit from their fans for "selling out". There has been a large shift though in subscribers wanting creators to do well and make money and they seem to understand that they might need to take a sponsorship to create quality content. I think this community that Simply as created understands this that she only does things that she cares about because we have a level of trust with her and the opinions she gives.
I find it disingenuous when people (usually those who’ve taken sponsorships from Established Titles previously) claim it was always advertised as a gag gift and nothing more. Before this controversy I saw many sponsorships that claimed things like: - it uses a “legal loophole” that made you an “official” lord (completely false) - the plot of land you buy (which doesn’t exist) will be placed near the sponsored youtuber’s plot - that a tree was going to be planted directly on your lot (not that the money was simply going to a tree planting charity). This wasn’t just dumb people thinking a gag gift gave you real land and a legal title, that’s exactly what it was advertised to do. These claims I saw first hand weren’t from small UA-camrs either, I think the company should be liable for letting them false advertise on their behalf.
Established Titles thing- So many people who saw through the promise go straight to the name a star stuff, but here's the thing: Name a star doesn't promise astronomers will use that name. They say you get a card about "your" star. WFF adopt a baby animal doesn't claim they're sending you a baby animal to take care of, they say you're getting this plushie stand-in. ET said "you officially become a lord or lady." They originally claimed you could use your title on your passport (and have backpedalled hard on that now.) ET was making promises that sounded vaguely reasonable (a meaningless title could reasonably be that cheap) with very promising language. That's the scam part. I'm not mad at the channels that took the sponsorships (except the ones who angrily defended themselves and mocked those who didn't clock the gimmick) but I do think ET is making far too much money off of a poorly worded gimmick.
Honestly, the only ads I usually watch are the ones Jaime French posts because they are HILARIOUS and she keeps a timer in the corner. I usually skip ahead until they're done for everyone else. Full disclosure though, if someone offered me thousands of dollars to do an ad-read (unless it's something harmful, like that stupid tea people used to always promote) I'd probably do it and hope people would also skip ahead if they wanted to.
that scottish thing has been going on for 20 years (i remember my friend getting one). I was brought up in Scotland, its not that big of a country, they dont have that many pieces of land to sell lol
However this is "selling" souvenir plots too small for even a single tree. As a result of previous such trickery plots that small can no longer be officially registered as sold.
To referense the lord and lady thing… my grandparents are land owners in my country and I bought them the titles and they literally cried because it was a quite sentimental thing for them… maybe a scam but the happy cries made it absolutley worth it
My friend is obsessed with Scotland due to the Outlander series. So for her birthday a couple of years ago I ordered her an Established Title. She love it! And any time we are in a group chat and someone gets snippy with her, I pipe in with a “Her name is Lady Rebecca so-and-so, and you shall address her as such!” It always gets a good laugh out of everyone.
The name a star comparison is good, but established titles also added the plant a tree aspect. It feels like you’re doing something good and get a silly title. Though I think the title matters. I heard people saying you could get your passport and drivers license changed. Which I don’t think is true.
20:41 it’s actually wild for me to hear you’re offered $30k for a single ad read… I work 35 hrs a week and barely make 2/3rds of that for my yearly income 🤯🤯🤯 I would literally cry if someone offered me $30k…
i can only imagine how many of those emails are from fans who found your email address and are hoping that you will somehow read it. But if they were a true fan they would know that you wont lol.
As a Scottish person, I've found both Established Titles and the sponsorships done by UA-camrs really frustrating and offensive. Lots of jokes about Scottish culture at our expense (its really not all lords and ladies, shortbread, tartan, and bagpipes - we're way more interesting than that!! Promise!!), making out like we're stuck in the very distant past, ignoring a lot of the history around land ownership (and the current state of land access/ownership). Even if its not real and you don't own anything - it ignores that so many people in Scotland struggle to make it by, struggle to own homes or land of their own, etc. and a big part of that is the actual estate owners who hoard land. Overall, the company feels exploitative with regards to my home country and culture, and UA-camrs making uneducated jokes about my culture doesn't sit right with me.
As eye-rolling as this Established Titles scam is it is still important to call it what it is a scam. They did their very best to prey on as many people as possible. From those who just wanted a laugh to those who actually believed it was real. I remember ads saying you could legally change your passport information to Lord or Lady by buying this.
Why does everyone only focus on the title aspect of established titles, which wasn't the only aspect of the scam? They weren't purchasing any land for preservation as they claimed and the organizations they worked with to plant the trees currently don't work in Scotland. The whole point was based on preserving Scottish wild areas but that wasn't happening. Even if the false title was the only thing, they were advertising people to put this on financial records like CC applications. I doubt anyone could actually get in trouble for this as the CC agency would say no if it wasn't allowed but their advertising made it clear they wanted people to think this was real. It is cool that the company was donating money to other charities but that doesn't mean they aren't a scam.
My BIL is big into cyrpto and NTF's. He tried to get everyone in the family into investing. He snagged my MIL but forgot I worked in investment and pensions, and saw the devastating effects of bad advice causing people to loose vast amounts of money. I laughed him off at the time and said high risks are not good, he said I was missing out bragged about the money going up at time. Its a shame he ropped my MIL into it, but she did not invest a lot at all so has not been affected as much as he has.
There is an extension called sponsor block which blocks sponsors in the video. It’s more or a less a consequence of constant ads that are often not relevant to the content you are watching. Also about the monarchy, it’s essentially a collective delusion around grandeur.
Well, at least there's something real behind it. Even if the top title is mostly ceremonial these days. 2 German royal families recently were in the news in relation to an attempt to restore actual power. The family that used to have all the power refused to participate, but a disowned member of another family allegedly tried to become Emperor, but was simply arrested instead.
I'm answering for the data. I skip all ad reads. I hate when youtubers imbed actual content into the ads because I miss out, but I hate being advertised to since 9 times out of 10 it isn't a good company to give your money to. I also use ad blockers because I prefer to support people directly. ex: I buy holo taco instead of sitting through unrelated ads.
I like it when a creator is transparent about their advertising from the standpoint of either it’s clearly something that’s relevant to the audience and they’ve repeatedly vetted or somewhat unrelated to the content but vetted as a decent company. A lot of the tech channels are really good about listening to the audience and market and will dump a sponsor in a heart beat if they’re screwing their listeners. LTT just dumped Anker over the Eufy privacy scandal. That was not an insignificant drop!
Check out Legal Eagle's coverage of the established titles controversy. It's quite comprehensive - and really makes a good claim about why it's not just a harmless gag gift
I have a bigger problem with influencers who promote things that are actively harmful to people, llike diet teas, and other weightloss products, especially if their audience is young girls.
I skip through every single sponsorship or ad read in any content, no matter the creator or how well integrated it is into their content. But I think it’s great creators are getting sponsorships! The more the better for creators I like, get that bag, be financially independent from Adsense! But imma still keep skipping every single one, I’m not interested in wasting brain space listening to ads no matter how funny or creative the ad read may be lol
My bank (in new Zealand) does have a service where they tell you which places have your card saved and who has reoccurring subscriptions. All banks should have that tbh.
i skip ads 100% of the time even if it's something interesting or related to the creator lol. i have a weak will so i need to ignore people trying to sell stuff to me.

Cristine doesn’t understand- she is a beautiful people and she’s a bauauwty guru and that why she gets all these emails. You should be proud 😂😂😂😂
I bought my secret Santa a mug warmer and I can’t wait for them to get it!!
I'm graduating with my bachelor's tomorrow and I'm painting my nails with Holo Taco!!🥰one coat black + gold flake taco
Im in the UK and my bank app sends me reminders when my monthly subscriptions are coming out
my boyfriend has 90k plus unread emails, a few thousands ago I tried to do something, but I gave up, its so frustrating to see!
And I hate when creators will give like two minutes to cooking their food box and mix it into their content 😭
watching this rn and ben literally predicted all of the xqc contract details with kick. bunch of money, not very gambly, and non-exclusive 👏👏
It’s hilarious that I got a Harry and Meghan ad on this episode 😂
Omg you email notification saying over 80k would give me anxiety lol
Goly gosh i have to say that you guys have great cameras! I love good quality viewing
As a viewer, I skip every single ad on anyone’s video. Thank god for fast forwarding.
I have noticed that sometimes when I look at my account it will have a line that says this looks like a reoccurring payment in red. I thought Humm kind if cool to know. But also I saw one of those ads the guy was like I had 3 Hulu accounts ummm how did you do that? He must be the guy you see driving around with his gas cap hanging and the door open because he forgot to close it right after pulling the gas out.
lol the amount the Ontario Teachers' Pension Fund lost was less than 1% of their holdings they're not in any trouble for making a dumb bet.
C'mon.
I almost fell for Established Titles.
I got an Established Title Lordship for my bf as a christmas gag gift before it was exposed as a scam. Really big youtubers advertised it and it was still 40€ with their code . I dont know should I give it to him or not...🤔
You should put that Garfield email into the blabla bullshit meter 😂😂
I hate it when youtubers has 5 minutes add on a 15 min video and than the yt add . It's just to much.
tbh, i was more bothered by the idea that established titles bills itself as a conservation effort but may in fact not be helping much overall. i think most people get that the "lord or lady" title is kind of a joke, or at least that it would be a technicality and not a real, actionable thing you could take advantage of.
i wanted that lady/lord and land when i saw an ad , only because they said it can be put on your legal documents so i didnt think it would be a scam for that reason. 😂😂
I definitely skip ahead. Probably 80% of the time. One UA-camr (Nick Lewis) whom I really enjoy recently made it where I couldn't skip forward on his sponsorship. I was annoyed but I get it
Who was the person in a youtuber couple saying they needed to read an ad to put food on the table? Can't put my finger on it.
Cristine you look great in burgundy!
@simplypodlogical Please look up the Quebec parents who are suing fortnight because their kids are addicted to it!!! Podcast topic…ridiculous things people sure for
Betterhelp is an annoying brand ad i see everywhere....
They must be making some bag to pay soooo many content creators.
alright show of hands (or thumbs lol), who got someone a desk mug warmer thanks to cristine? 🙋🏼♀✋🏼
i knew immediately this would be the best gift for my mom who seems to always be in an endless microwave loop 😭
i don't but i should
20:18 idc what the ad is im skipping it tbh
Ben talking about Meghan and Harry made my day. I just watched the begining of the show and I had the same reaction as Ben.. they r hilarious.. like imagine being so self centered and make a documentary about yourself... it is made so dramatic and cringe... 😂😂😂
there's so many singers who have documentaries now, some have actual interesting things to say (related to either mental health or the industry) but some are really trying to make the most out of nothing, it's interesting to see the gap between the two
I'd kill to see the scottish titles sales figures even after videos like these where people are critical. you'd only need 100 people to go "huh that sounds like a fun idea for christmas" for them to make $5k in sales (not saying you have any control over that, just as a point of interest)
I actually think ads are still just as powerful, especially if people associate the product with a parasocial relationship. like "I'm gonna get these shitty headphones to support the creator I feel close to"
ads just on a website are far less effective than ones that are integrated into content that someone feels emotionally invested in. it's kinda insidious.
of course ben finds a way to bring up dua lipa
I HATE sponsorships, but I do support them in true crime channels where we know they often don't get monetised because of the topic of crime and keywords that automatically puts them in no money zone, which is kinda infuriating considering that those people like Stephanie Harlowe put soooo much work into their videos, so I will listen to every sponsorship she presents. Luckily she specifically is very considerate and only promotes very decent sponsors, mostly stuff she uses herself
I love how Ben says no one talks about NFTs and how they are dead like. 2 days before Trump released his NFT cards😂
I always skip. I intentionally skip certain creators who have scattered mid roll ads through a whole video. Plus run several sponsored ads which the creator/s read. It’s losing its power with me with many, not all, but many creators.
Idk it would be funny to do a video where you get these for free and test them out like the pillow 😂
They used the word "official" too many times to make it clear that it's a gag gift
and the word "legal"!
They definitely misrepresented their product through the ads they allowed UA-camrs to run. Words like “official”, “legal”, and “real” would give people the impression they are buying more than just a novelty “name a star, donate to charity” type gift. If not illegal per se, wholly irresponsible.
I think if they were concerned about being upfront about what they do they would’ve called themselves Novelty Titles.
I'd say it's likely more a scam than is being talked about because everyone focused on the lord/lady thing -- and focused on "sillyness" of what likely small minority of folk that thought it made them royalty vs. the more common comment that thought it gave them the legal right to use the title Lord/Lady that they otherwise would not have -- and not researching more into their other claims
- According to a land blogger/researcher (Andy Wightman iirc) who looked at the land records, they only own 55.7 acres that only cost them 37k pounds. (which is under 2.5mil "1 square foot plots") -- they claim hundreds of acres of land
- There's no figures on exactly how many customers they had, e.g. how many plots sold
- to find plot coordinates, need to separately contact them with email + plot number
- The 2mill trees planted figure is from December 2021 (per waybackmachine) via one charity (trees for future), who's average cost per "tree" is *25 cents* (they provide education and seeds, not clear when a tree is considered a tree)
- The 2mil trees planted figure was on their website in Dec 2021 but was replaced with "Over 42k pounds donated", so... did it cost them 500k$ or a lot less to plant those 2mil trees...? o.O
- The other tree charity is one tree planted is 1$ a tree individual rate but no figures on how many planted via them
- They have an 8$ monthly plant *one* tree "pledge" that is autochecked by default but ... 25 cents to a dollar for a tree with the charities they work with
- 50$ is the average min price, but plots went up to 300$+ on the assumption it was really helping, or 100$+ to get a physical framed certifake
- See Lady of Library's video on a Scottish perspective on why this is culturally insensitive /not helpful
- Tree planting can not help the ecosystem if done badly, see various deep dives on this on youtube
So it's likely they aren't preserving they land they are, they are overall not looked as helping per Scottish commentors, it looks like barely any money (compared to how much they raised) are going to help the world, despite that being a key part of their sell.
Definitely a scam/ sham There’s really good videos that talk about this
The Jenna and Julien podcast was the channel who I wouldn’t skip ads for because Julien had the best transitions in to the ads and it fully made me engage with the ads.
@michelleexcels that’s cute
@@MichiruEll lesson learned, check before believing, especially if it’s merchandise or if money is involved.
@@MichiruEll also, sorry, does anyone think honoris causa is a real doctorate? I’m living in a bubble.
Legal Eagle did some digging and offers from Established Titles ranged from 4-6 figures depending on the creator's reach.
I find it disingenuous when people (usually those who’ve taken sponsorships from Established Titles previously) claim it was always advertised as a gag gift and nothing more. Before this controversy I saw many sponsorships that claimed things like:
- it uses a “legal loophole” that made you an “official” lord (completely false)
- the plot of land you buy (which doesn’t exist) will be placed near the sponsored youtuber’s plot
- that a tree was going to be planted directly on your lot (not that the money was simply going to a tree planting charity).
This wasn’t just dumb people thinking a gag gift gave you real land and a legal title, that’s exactly what it was advertised to do. These claims I saw first hand weren’t from small UA-camrs either, I think the company should be liable for letting them false advertise on their behalf.
If people actually believed those claims.... you deserved to get scamed. 💀
@@shteve119 false/misleading advertising is wrong and “you’d have to be dumb to believe us” is a shoddy defence
@@shteve119 you should watch atomic shrimp's scambaiting series. It might help to make you a little more aware
Confession: i skip through ad reads and I'm simply hoping that that doesn't show up in statistics😅
the holo taco kingdom behind beyNNnNNnN is beautiful 😍
Honestly, the only ads I usually watch are the ones Jaime French posts because they are HILARIOUS and she keeps a timer in the corner. I usually skip ahead until they're done for everyone else. Full disclosure though, if someone offered me thousands of dollars to do an ad-read (unless it's something harmful, like that stupid tea people used to always promote) I'd probably do it and hope people would also skip ahead if they wanted to.
When Jaime uses her parrot in the ad is the best!
OMG... When Cristine said on the podcast "when I read that, my eyes rolled so far back it gave me a migraine!" I snorted out my coffee...
I know, such an awesome word painting.
that scottish thing has been going on for 20 years (i remember my friend getting one). I was brought up in Scotland, its not that big of a country, they dont have that many pieces of land to sell lol
However this is "selling" souvenir plots too small for even a single tree. As a result of previous such trickery plots that small can no longer be officially registered as sold.
The lord/lady thing makes me think of the Keeping Up With The Kardashians episode where Scott Disick does some bullshit so he can become Lord Disick 😂
To referense the lord and lady thing… my grandparents are land owners in my country and I bought them the titles and they literally cried because it was a quite sentimental thing for them… maybe a scam but the happy cries made it absolutley worth it
I'm at home sick and seeing a new SimplyPodLogical episode just made my day 🫶🏽
Get well soon!

I bought my dad one of those established titles. It's conservation and he will enjoy demanding everyone call him lord haha
@@marciamarciamarcia3117 I love that! And I'm expecting very similar conversations in the family GC haha
The only ad integrations I will usually watch all the way through is Evan and Katelyn. They are so funny
Tmg’s ad integrations are so out of pocket, they are actually content I swear
And jay foreman
The name a star comparison is good, but established titles also added the plant a tree aspect. It feels like you’re doing something good and get a silly title. Though I think the title matters. I heard people saying you could get your passport and drivers license changed. Which I don’t think is true.
It was reported that at least the passport couldn't, only those documents that let you choose any made up title.
20:41 it’s actually wild for me to hear you’re offered $30k for a single ad read… I work 35 hrs a week and barely make 2/3rds of that for my yearly income 🤯🤯🤯
I would literally cry if someone offered me $30k…
For Jenna and Julien's podcast I always looked forward to Julien's fire seaways.
the way i immediately abandoned the video i was watching for this lmao
my new favourite thing that i could listen to all day is ben making fun of the monarchy
i can only imagine how many of those emails are from fans who found your email address and are hoping that you will somehow read it.
I always skip ads, the only ads I listen to were when Julien had those fire segways and Jenna would scream at him lol.
Just sat down for my lunch break let’s go
Why does everyone only focus on the title aspect of established titles, which wasn't the only aspect of the scam? They weren't purchasing any land for preservation as they claimed and the organizations they worked with to plant the trees currently don't work in Scotland. The whole point was based on preserving Scottish wild areas but that wasn't happening. Even if the false title was the only thing, they were advertising people to put this on financial records like CC applications. I doubt anyone could actually get in trouble for this as the CC agency would say no if it wasn't allowed but their advertising made it clear they wanted people to think this was real. It is cool that the company was donating money to other charities but that doesn't mean they aren't a scam.
I need more of Simply and Ben attempting to act like royals
My BIL is big into cyrpto and NTF's. He tried to get everyone in the family into investing. He snagged my MIL but forgot I worked in investment and pensions, and saw the devastating effects of bad advice causing people to loose vast amounts of money. I laughed him off at the time and said high risks are not good, he said I was missing out bragged about the money going up at time. Its a shame he ropped my MIL into it, but she did not invest a lot at all so has not been affected as much as he has.
The 1,500 BLT contest is worth $50 USD, lol. Glad you didn't get convinced by the ridiculousness 😂
I tend to skip sponsorships. I’m that one person going get that money! But I also just skip them
I'm answering for the data.
That was not an insignificant drop!
time to enjoy the best podcast as I eat
I would love to get in there and clear out that inbox 😂😂 nothing makes me happier than when my inbox is empty
Random but I loved their hoodies in this pod & always love when Simply has her hair in a pony, it's so pretty 😍
So maybe we shouldn’t buy anything from Ben’s future humus collab? 😅
If owning a piece of land in Scotland made you a lord than all the people who own houses in Scotland are Lords and ladies
My bank actually does use an app so every time i purchase something i get an notification . so talk to your bank first
