Good for the post, although postman now arrives in the middle afternoon. My great grandad was a postman and he'd be turning in his grave if he knew this was happening now. Go for private companies when sending big parcels, half the cost and more efficient!
gosh how things have changed-a post box gets emptied once a day as early as 9am in villages and 5pm in towns so if you have a letter in a village box going in at noon there it will sit till 9am the day after, all collections used to be 4-5pm and 6.30pm in towns, then the letter can go in to the system and either arrive next day, arrive never or arrive a fortnight later with "not at no 32 try at number whatever" on it as its sat in the wrong house for a fortnight misdelivered untill its been kindly put back in the post.
29/01 23, 9am collections rarely occur within my post code area & neighbouring codes - the Day tabs indicate this. This does however jack up RM's 'efficiency.' Their Quality of Service results are based on Collection times - the time from when the mail is collected. Many p m collections have been scrapped so your letter won't be collected from these boxes until tomorrow, excluding Sundays & Bank Hol's, unless it shows an afternoon collection time. Comparing results may not be a like-for-like comparison when giving current & any previous Quality of Service data. RM now want to be a parcel & packet delivery business along with numerous competitors. Your groceries maybe arriving via your postperson who'll be competing for road space too along with half a dozen of the Supermarket's own vehicles out there as well, all claiming to have their own individual 'Green' credentials. What would Great say ?
Sam Parker If you take into account that 65 million letters are posted every day, thats about £20 million a DAY to fund all of what goes on, and that doesn't take into account all the parcels which costs about £3 to post. That is £7.3 billion funding for all of the post in the UK, and the boat is just for the Scottish Islands
The cost of the "personalised" services is subsidised by the shorter bulk delivery routes . That is what the universal service obligation is all about and what governments are helping to destroy ! By allowing other companies to muscle in on the more profitable areas they are in effect taking away funding from outlying areas .
I'll tell you how the royal mail works. SLOWLY are postmen are great but they are fed up by the management most agree that the Royal mail should be as it was Nationalised as with all our other utility companies Our government sold us out what we had has gone or going bring in the REFORM PARTY make Britain Great again 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I have read a few comments saying how much cheaper Chinese mail is. If nothing has changed in the last few years, Chinese mail to us is subsidised, probably to help a developing country! So the seller of cheap chinese tat pays not a lot to send the cheap crap to you and the royal mail don't get paid to deliver it.
I would say this was roughly the beginning of the decline. Letters aren't what they were and parcels are the priority. The feeling of pride to be apart of RM was strong throughout the company but I would say that during the last 3 years have been a dramatic change. I'm still proud of looking after that automation though.
Time it takes Royal Mail in a modern country like the UK, to deliver a letter over a distance of say 400km? 1 day. Time it takes Canada Post to deliver a letter in a modern country like Canada over a distance of say 50km. 1 week. Royal Mail are the best in the world. Enough said!
Thing is I'm not complaining, the only thing I moaned about was the difference between the round in this clip and mine. His being miles easier than mine. There's plenty of easier rounds in my office but round allocation is on seniority order so they are all take by the guys with 20+ years service. I actually like my job, it keeps me fit and the money is good and I there are great benefits for working for RM like the pension and various other things like healthcare plans etc.
I posted a letter 1st class. I think it was too thick because it hasn't arrived. Shouldn't the recipient receive a card asking to pay more postage? If so, how long will it take for them to receive that card?
Anyone who has a bad thing to say about the postman should have a go themselves, i have moaned and whined about them myself but now i am one i realise just how much crap the postman has to deal with from managers public and Post,
@nath453 3 days for you perhaps means absolutely nothing 3 days for an entire street means there was something wrong like I suggested. I question the validity of your statement, did you go and knock the door of everyone in your street to ask? How many houses are on your street? 20, 30, 100, 2? If the regular postie is ill a reserve will cover the duty or it will be covered on overtime.
Is it acceptable for a Postman to wake you up at 7.45 am to deliver a package and when you eventually get there they are at the end of the road and have left your parcel at your doorstep, right on a busy street? I mean, is dumping mail on your doorstep the done thing for Royal Mail at the moment? I half expect it from a company like Hermes, but Royal Mail?! .. Her Majesty's own mail service!? The same postman actually came back 5 minutes later, and got me out of bed a second time, because he forgot a second package. I thought; "I'm going to give him a piece of my mind this time!" and raced to the front door, but he was already halfway down the road again. They are considered key workers, so does that mean i should be letting it slide?
slender, do you really think that a private company will go to those lengths in the video for what 60p first class...i think not... thos epeople will be lucky if they get one delivery a week if privatisation goes ahead.
@Triwood1973 On the flip side tho, I hate it when I knock the door and can hear someone behind the door but they won't open it because they think I might be a bailiff or the police even when I say "it's the postman". I then spend a couple of mins filling out a card and the second I pop it through the door they open it with some bullshit excuse that they were in the garden.
I don't think Royal Mail should have increased their prices so much in one go.Its a big hike up to the present price of 60p for a first class letter. They should stop giving discounts to big companies posting huge amounts and charge them the correct price. The prices then probably could have stopped the same. The reason for all the price increases and changes is to make the business more appealing for privatisation. The saying 'out of the frying pan into the fire' springs to mind.
farmer family, no kids just farming and we don't get paid more. I worked at RM delivering and my cousin still does, he gets more than he did as farm labourer and prefers the work.

37p will not pay for the hire of a boat and a quad bike, they seem like specialised/ personalised methods of delivery, what am I missing here?
Sam Parker If you take into account that 65 million letters are posted every day, thats about £20 million a DAY to fund all of what goes on, and that doesn't take into account all the parcels which costs about £3 to post. That is £7.3 billion funding for all of the post in the UK, and the boat is just for the Scottish Islands
Sam Parker
Tony stole the tenner out of the card to pay for his ferry ticket and fuel for his quad bike.
lifeguard2564 😂😂
The cost of the "personalised" services is subsidised by the shorter bulk delivery routes . That is what the universal service obligation is all about and what governments are helping to destroy !
By allowing other companies to muscle in on the more profitable areas they are in effect taking away funding from outlying areas .
Dean Keith Royal Mail has been privatised but they still serve these remote places
05:09 - 05:14 - Time to fly, time to fl ....... OI, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? LET GO OF ME!
RM has quads? I never knew that!
sometimes i really appreaciate just a delivery, a post man job is not an easy job, trust me it is hard and valuable.
32p?? The good old days. It's 60p now..
Ha! 76p now...
I'll tell you how the royal mail works. SLOWLY are postmen are great but they are fed up by the management most agree that the Royal mail should be as it was Nationalised as with all our other utility companies
Our government sold us out what we had has gone or going bring in the REFORM PARTY make Britain Great again 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
“Archie” 😂😂😂 I don’t know if it’s stupidity or optimistic
In Mexico, with that same location as destination that letter would never arrive I swear haha
29/ 01 23, Not all Postal staff know what an lMS is. Can't imagine Quayside sorting in mid - Winter either. 1st class mail now almost £1.
Love it what a brilliant video I will never complain again about how much a stamp costs and the video made me giggle as well thankyou.
Being a postman in the country looks fun. I want a quad.
It's called an IMP. An Internal Mail Processor.
I love Royal Mail. Their efficiency and reliability are amazing.
Were amazing
I would say this was roughly the beginning of the decline. Letters aren't what they were and parcels are the priority. The feeling of pride to be apart of RM was strong throughout the company but I would say that during the last 3 years have been a dramatic change. I'm still proud of looking after that automation though.
Brilliant video. Always wondered how it all works. 😂
I appriciate royal mail do their best for us. But should be cheaper as it's always delayed
Perfect they are not, but are you??? They do a darn good job and I'm proud of them.
Wow it will soon be 70p for 1st class stamp
Time it takes Royal Mail in a modern country like the UK, to deliver a letter over a distance of say 400km? 1 day. Time it takes Canada Post to deliver a letter in a modern country like Canada over a distance of say 50km. 1 week. Royal Mail are the best in the world. Enough said!
Barry Hatcher o
Millie the culler.
Millie cause it sounds kinda like mail, culler cause, cull means to remove something from the rest of the stuff.
They operate really badly. 2024 and they still prioritise parcels over mail which includes hospital appointments.
How does one get to the positions of post men delivering and driving the van? Is sorting office a good way to earn money easy gruelling wayb
I posted a letter 1st class. I think it was too thick because it hasn't arrived. Shouldn't the recipient receive a card asking to pay more postage? If so, how long will it take for them to receive that card?
39p for a first class stamp in 2010? It's 2022 and they're 95p now! I don't think money has inflated almost 3 times as much in 12 years :/
Anyone who has a bad thing to say about the postman should have a go themselves, i have moaned and whined about them myself but now i am one i realise just how much crap the postman has to deal with from managers public and Post,
64 pence for a first class stamp...
Personal Red Where the fuck are you getting your stamps from? I bought a first class one for 65p the other week.
Absolutely wonderful😌
@nath453 3 days for you perhaps means absolutely nothing 3 days for an entire street means there was something wrong like I suggested. I question the validity of your statement, did you go and knock the door of everyone in your street to ask? How many houses are on your street? 20, 30, 100, 2? If the regular postie is ill a reserve will cover the duty or it will be covered on overtime.
You make it look like she's only emptied one postbox
Postman Pat cartoon is true. Postal service does have plane and off terrain vehicle!
Ffs...shut up moaning!
32 pence for a 1st class stamp, lol. Hello to 92 today!
70p
Funny that, because my uncle in N.Ireland is a farmer he, his family and everyone else around him that owns farms earns a lot more than me.
You can barely get a letter to the sorting office for 32p. :D
Damn... it amazes me people will just a name on an envelope and send it!! What the fack! They have better luck sending a smoke signal
Plot twist, i went to the wrong ned
slender, do you really think that a private company will go to those lengths in the video for what 60p first class...i think not... thos epeople will be lucky if they get one delivery a week if privatisation goes ahead.
@Triwood1973 On the flip side tho, I hate it when I knock the door and can hear someone behind the door but they won't open it because they think I might be a bailiff or the police even when I say "it's the postman". I then spend a couple of mins filling out a card and the second I pop it through the door they open it with some bullshit excuse that they were in the garden.
awesome, thanks for the videos
This just made me paranoid that my letter from the UK to Germany won’t arrive (will get lost) ://
I’ll update in a week ?
I don't think Royal Mail should have increased their prices so much in one go.Its a big hike up to the present price of 60p for a first class letter. They should stop giving discounts to big companies posting huge amounts and charge them the correct price. The prices then probably could have stopped the same. The reason for all the price increases and changes is to make the business more appealing for privatisation. The saying 'out of the frying pan into the fire' springs to mind.
That gets there in 24 hours but my first class package takes 4 days.. I know it's a package but still
Packages get sorted differently
not his birthday till next month LOL
she doesn't trust Royal Mail to get it there on time ;-)
What's the rotating drum called? At 2:13, it says, "That's done by ..." What are the next words?
Do you know who the producer of this video is? Or who created it/where you got it from? Thanks
What move deliveries? Or move to a remote Scottish Island and be a postie there? Easier said than done.
I love how they " open your mail " for " clues " or in the gaming world " loot " >:(
farmer family, no kids just farming and we don't get paid more. I worked at RM delivering and my cousin still does, he gets more than he did as farm labourer and prefers the work.
I got in trouble for sending a poison pen letter to someone I did not like in the post!
@onlywhenpissed dammn what happen to the money ? sorry i m in the state mate, hwo much was that in US currency the cash ned sister placein the letter?
in finland itella you need wait 3 days 1st class post -,- but when i buy something in uk netshops i get my packet on 3 days or 1stclass 1-2 day (:
I'm watching this while royal mail delivers my PC
Im contemplating why dont they save their fuel and save time and go to heathrow instead of stansted?Really weird 😔😔😔😔😔😔
They'd have to pay Heathrow a fortune for the privelege, that's why!
Amazing what you can get for 36p
How can you tell how long a round takes when it's peeing down with rain.... You people think it's the same and it isn't.... Same on a boiling hot day... You still expect people to rush rush rush
