A Memorable Farewell: The Last Supper at Munich Ratskeller on a Chilly Spring Night
On the final evening of the tour, the group found themselves gathered at the Munich Ratskeller, a traditional German restaurant nestled in the heart of the city. The spring air was icy, but the atmosphere inside was warm and inviting. The restaurant, steeped in history, added an extra layer of charm to our last dinner together.
The Ratskeller is located in the basement of the old city hall, or Neues Rathaus, a landmark in itself. The building, constructed in the late 19th century, is a Gothic Revival masterpiece with a stunning façade and a towering spire. Inside, the restaurant's vaulted ceilings and ancient stone walls whispered tales of the past.
The night was filled with music and laughter as the group shared stories and memories from their journey. The clinking of glasses and the hum of conversation created a symphony of sounds that echoed through the restaurant. The aroma of hearty German food wafted through the air, tantalizing our senses and promising a feast to remember.
The menu was a cornucopia of Bavarian delights. There were plates piled high with sauerbraten, a pot roast marinated in a special blend of spices; bratwurst, a traditional German sausage; and knödel, fluffy dumplings made from bread or potatoes. The meal was accompanied by a variety of side dishes, including sauerkraut, red cabbage, and potato salad. For dessert, they indulged in apple strudel, a warm pastry filled with tart apples and dusted with powdered sugar.
Nearby points of interest included the Marienplatz, the central square of Munich, where the group had undoubtedly spent some time during our tour. The square is home to the Mariensäule, a column topped with a golden statue of the Virgin Mary, and the New Town Hall, where they could watch the famous Glockenspiel show.
As the night drew to a close, the group took a moment to capture the memories with a series of photos. The flash lit up the ancient stone walls, creating a striking contrast between the old and the new. The laughter and music of the night would be forever etched in their minds, a fitting end to our tour.
These videos are about our travels to distant places, within Texas, within the USA, and countries around the world. We travel by car (Pickup Truck), ship, and/or airplane.
We have retired, and are not bound to any one place, and believe the we need to complete our “bucket list” while we are still young enough and ambulatory enough to enjoy the sights and sounds of different places.
