You should just ensure that there are no insects or bacteria in the bead, just soak it overnight in regular water. If it is infested the insects will come out. By the color of the bead you can judge how old it is. If it is very dark brown or black then it means that it was harvested long ago so you would need any expert to check the bead or you can get an xray to see if the bead is healthy from inside.

Using herbal soap is not recommended as it will soil the Rudraksha. You may wash it under normal tap water using a tooth brush gently on the surface are. You may use any oil. Sandal/Olive oil is the best.

I found in my experience that til oil is best for soaking the rudraksha.What is your opinion mam?
I do not recommend soaking of Rudraksha beads in oil. However you make use 2-3 drops on a New tooth brush and gently rub it on the surface area of the Rudraksha bead.
