i went on a canoe trip from taumanru to whanganui in1968 we did it over a 2 week perod camping by rapids for a couple off days so could go through them a few times i reamber the 13 th rapid was massive and a lot of us got tipped out we made our own canoes at a scout leaders place all hand made and you sat on top with urr legs down wher you would usally sit gave better control i now live on murry river in australia and its not a patch on what the whanganui river used to be beautifull cenery and so peacefull ive traveled a lot through phillipines vietnam australia and none are as beautifull as NZ but the river trip i went on still makes me wish i could do it again and amm so happy i did do it
