amazing amount of money thrown around. In comparison, im a peasant in america. race starts at 8am. ill have a small breakfast and coffee on the sofa, while watching on television. total cost: $3 usd.
I want to assure everybody that you can still have a great Monaco holiday for a lot less money, as long as it's not during the Grand Prix. The Fairmont and other top hotels can be booked with airmiles, the helicopter service offers regular transfer tickets for not much more than a taxi (or you can take an express bus), the tourist office and hotels offer cheap or free entry to the attractions, you can take a local public bus that's fast and cheap instead of taxis, and there is a wide variety of food offerings from Carrefour grocery store (same prices as in France), McDonald's, takeaways and midrange restaurants. Some casinos are free to enter and lot of attractions are free (cathedral, palace changing of the guard, gardens, and the beach). There's even a public ferry across the harbor for the price of a bus ticket. Some days the buses and attractions are all free. With a little planning, Monaco is not for millionaires only.
That’s true. We drove past it once on a French Holiday. Did 3 laps of the track and had lunch for €40. I bought 1:18 scale Ferrari and then drove to Nice. Not in my newly acquired Ferrari, but a Citroën we rented 😂
Some suggestions for the budget conscious travelers: arrive by train and walk down to the track. Search for deals on the boats and restaurants/bars opposite the casino for Friday and Saturday. And by all means hike up to the „Secteur Rocher“ underneath of the castle on Sunday. Rocheur means cliff and this means be prepared to tie yourself to a tree on the slope if you don’t think you’ll be able to stand for the full race length… Anyways, there are many ways to have nearly just as much fun and action as the wealthy on Race Weekend at a fraction of the cost..
We stayed in Nice and trained it in every day, On Sunday we were at the Star n Bars restaurant. Most people were only there to mingle and flash cash, We didn't meet many real F1 fans there.
I like the Idea of this video, I actually visited Monaco, along with Italian and French cities for a school trip which was non academic purely vacation, and out bus ride and time spent in the day of Monaco, we didn't even spend much money, its cool to know I visited on a cheap ass budget lmao
Great Video Kym. Obviously Monaco is not for people really interested in racing. It’s a see and be seen place and oh by the way there is some really dull racing. BTW your pictures of the food has made me really hungry.
This content was amazing, it would be great to have these types of videos as well for all the other ‘must see’ places within the area. The estimated costs of going to a race, Accomodation and possibly where to go in terms of your favourite spots would be brilliant! Thanks for the content
The Indianapolis 500 likes to call itself a spectacle, as well; it's two hours from my house. Paddock penthouse tickets and a bunch of beer will run about 1% of that Monaco trip, and you'll see actual racing!
@@horisonskies3868 Let's be honest here, you're more likely to see good racing in Indianapolis then f1 in Monaco. Liberty Media made the sport so dull and i'm sorry, compared to Indycar or MotoGP, F1 is bottom of the barrell dull and boring with barely any continuous hard racing or overtaking and the same guy winning every race. It has lost its title of "pinnacle of motorsport" a long time ago.
@@EvilDogger I Disagree. The reason F1 is seen as "Dull" is because it lets teams be actually technically dominant. The best team will ALWAYS win in F1. If a car cannot overtake? Well, chances are it's really not the driver, and probably the car. Just as racing on the street is. Its about the incredible engineering. Also, I simply dont see how Indycar or MotoGP even come close to the engineering and power of F1 cars.
This is infinitely more expensive than Miami, for regular fans. Somehow the latter gets blasted more than the former though in terms of “being accessible to fans”. All for a race where you can barely overtake. Okay then. Anyway great vid as always Kym!
And savvy ones rent the apartment with a view. The traffic before and after GP is terrible. People have no clue how blocked the streets are. So mostly you meet up with rich tourists/flexing people/maybe a fan.
Hi Kym my only visit to Monaco was in 1998 just before the GP then and was a memorable visit to the Casino and walk about on the streets . You have rekindled my desire to visit the principality through your lovely video.Gowra
Thanks Kim for giving us a visual taste of what it’s like to dine and party like a millionaire in Monaco! My husband and I were just there. We arrived via cruise ship on the Azamara Pursuit, which was a fun and much more affordable way to get to and from the race track and enjoy a fun party after the race with a gorgeous view of the skyline and harbours lit up at night on the water! I thought we were over-spending, but now I don’t feel too bad 😜
Thanks for the tips. When I win the lottery, you're invited. I've seen the race weekend from: trackside in a bistro just before Ste-Devote; Tabac; La Piscine; the stands high above Ste-Devote; Antony Noghes; and perhaps best of all, Pelouse Rocher. I paid 50 francs the first time I sat at Rocher, and witnessed the epic Senna-Mansell duel. I last attended a race there in 2006. I've been following F1 since the era when a wee gent in tartan was on his way to becoming a 3-time world champion.
Love it when Kym say's I've eaten here a couple of times!! No doubt after selling a few 200 euro prints. Still nice informative video just got to win the lottery.
Kym, fantastic content as always! I’ve been watching your videos for a really long time and the algorithm always shows me them (I imagine due to my high watch time). Sorry to say I wasn’t subscribed until today, but you should 100% plug that reminder more frequently 🙌🏼 Thanks again, look forward to the next one!
As someone who has been to both Monaco and the Indy 500 I can say without question Monaco is a WASTE OF MONEY.... INDY 500 EVERY TIME!!! INDY IS SO MUCH MORE INVITING. INDY has better racing, higher speeds than F1 cars can go, Better drivers, more things to do, and overall its just a giant party!!! while Monaco is cool if you have never been id still go just when theres no GP in town...
Great post 👍 my issue is I actually don’t like to b bothered when watching the qualies and race day. I prefer to focus on the sport. But I’ll still do everything else u suggest 😅
Cool. The private jet sounds almost affordable to do once in my life. I'm sure you'll do one of these videos for Vegas. Which place will be more expensive?
I'd much rather hire a campervan and go to Spa to party with all the crazy Dutch fans. I did Spa in 2018 and didn't get much sleep and had the time of my life. I'd feel a bit out of place in Monaco.
That's a lovely and true atmosphere. With true fans. Often I wish people from F1 forums would attend and change the vibe. In Monaco there are many average earners attending GP but usually they came here to flex/blend in not for racing.
My brother and his wife that are not F1 fans.. ended up in Monaco the weekend after a race. They loved it and didn't even know there was a F1 race there until i saw pics of him driving thru the tunnel.. I was jelly. I have priced out Monaco for us poor folks in the past.. and I factored around 13K for the weekend. Still no way i could swing that for a weekend.
I’ll be having a similar experience at an exclusive prime location (local pub), sipping on some organic beverages (locally brewed beer) and a tasty free range animal cruelty-free meat (a beef burger). 😅 On a serious note, I’ll be watching the race from a pub at Kyalami corner, very close to where one of the races should have been held here in South Africa before it was cancelled, Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. Should be a lot of fun.
Hi Kym. Another great documentary I bet you miss Angela Cullen Like I do She was awesome in her job. Looking after Lewis. Monaco Is a lovely place. We went a couple of times, not race weekend. But whilst on holiday in the Cote d'Azur. Drove around the circuit a bit of fun.
Great look into the life of the rich or wannabe rich!! I must say you didn’t mention that you need the clothes, shoes, purse, watch and mani/pedi as an additional cost. I think I would need about a half million dollars (euros) for one weekend. No problem, will start saving now and will be there 😂😂😂😂
Kym, where can I buy a print of Fernando Alonso that you feature in your video openings? I've checked Pro Star Pics and can't seem to find the exact image.
When I was working for Microsoft back then and was invited for some event at Monaco as a trainee I actually flew that same helicopter service after landing from Schiphol airport on Nice. Tbh, the whole Monaco experience even back then (we're talking 2010), including a visit to the Monte Carlo Casino felt blasé at best. I'm not sure there's an English word for blasé but the closest meaning would be spoiled/bored I guess. All the glamour gets old very fast and in the end, and it's just paper-thin.
Blasé definitely. That's the vibe I got at the event I attended to. People didn't care for the sport at all. It's a joy killer. Showing emotion was frowned upon. As for GP many people rent their apartments with a view of the track. like everywhere but to higher degree there are wannabes and people getting hospitality for free. It's a show off.
“Bottle of white” was a d’Yquem Kim! That is over €400 in the shop, so must be over €800 in the restaurant and you only drink this as an aperitif or desert whine…..
