Over 50km of trails were just reopened up in Waterton Lakes National Park the other day! They include the hike to Bertha Falls and Bertha Lake, the Crandell Lake Loop, Horseshoe Basin, and the Lakeshore trail! Also, the Bertha Bay, Bertha Lake, and Boundary Bay backcountry campgrounds are open as well! Happy hiking everyone!
Recently the Akamina Parkway (to Cameron Lake and other hikes) and the Red Rock Parkway were opened to foot/bike traffic! Still closed for vehicles, but it looks like progress is being made in reopening the areas affected by the 2017 wildfire!
nice video - there is this old hotel/ old building on the lake - what is that place and is there any hike to see that hotel. I have seen some great pictures of that place and associate Waterton to that place. Not mentioned on your list but saw a glimpse of that hotel in your video. But would like to have more information on that place
For everyone watching this video now, Waterton Lakes National Park was devastated by a wildfire at the end of the summer in 2017. Currently Cameron Falls and the exploring the town are open to be visited, but Cameron Lake, Akamina Lake, Red Rock Canyon, and the Bear's Hump hike are in the area closed off to the public for further notice. For more information on the area closures visit: www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/ab/waterton/visit/ouvert-open
Jeremy Reimer for tenting/trailer camping the Crandall Mountain Campground is good, although it's first come first serve so get there early. There's a Campground in the town, but that's more of an RV park. Glad you liked the video!
Thanks for watching! That must be so awesome to live there, hopefully more trails open in the coming months and years. At least there's some good ones they just reopened!
Thank you for posting a very useful video. I am visiting Waterton very soon and of course a first timer. I heard that we might see bears walking on hiking areas? is it true? How do we prepare our safe trip?
Atignas thanks for watching! You may see bears around the park and on trails, but there’s nothing to worry about. When you’re hiking I recommend yelling out every so often something like “Hey Oh!”. It lets any animals out there know you’re there, as they are more afraid of us. If you don’t have bear spray you should be able to rent it in the town, Tamarack Outfitters should have it. Have fun!
Thank you so much for your reply. This helps. So, we can buy bear spray at local stores like Shoppers, superstore? This incident is not from Canada but I have seen a man who got injured by a bear- got scratched on all over his face ( I get goose bumps even just on recalling that moment). That was pretty scary. Those bears were wild bears and had very less contact with humans. And, this is not a case here. I am hoping to explore all these 5 things you mentioned here in the video. I am sure, my family will enjoy the trip. Thank you once again.
Hi, it's definitely not a scramble, I've seen many families do it over the years. Could be a hot time in the summer though since the fire destroyed all the tree cover!
I have never been to Watertown before. I called the park's office and they mentioned that the lake is quite cold for swimming however people do go for a swim anyway. Any thoughts on this ?
Mohammadi Sakir in winter Waterton is pretty quiet, most of the stores are closed as well as the gas station I believe. There’s just a couple hotels and maybe a couple restaurants that stay open all year long. There’s still good opportunities to go cross country skiing and snowshoeing there in the winter, the Red Rock Parkway and Akamina Parkway are open to those activities this winter!
Dems are all nice things to do, but first for me is straight to the hotel room to pump off to some Penthouse Letters before I even dream of doing any of the things you listed, but a great list and I highly recommend them as well, especially Bears Hump.
Anonymous Ryley yeah sadly, however from what I'm reading pretty much all of the townsite has been saved and the visitor center beside the Bear's Hump Hike burned down
Crypt lake is an amazing hike.

Edmontonian going this Sunday for 5 days. Thank you for this!
As an Albertan who's been to Waterton, I can confirm this is all correct.
Same
I'd recommend checking out Blakiston Falls if you are on the Red Rock Canyon Parkway!
Great edit: I love the part with the painted toe nails in the boat and then the cut to you in the boat. Cracked me up!
Very beautiful park. Thanks for showing us 5 things we could do in Watertown Lakes National Park.
Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
Amazing video. Great work. Good job with putting everything in description.

Is it open during covid?
As of Aug/20 Red Rock Parkway has reopened to vehicle traffic.
Bertha Falls/Lake is a great hike as well.
Thanks for the great video.. I'm heading out Monday July 5 2021.. Can't wait.

Great job capturing some epic looking highlights! Any recommendations campground-wise in and around Waterton?
Jeremy Reimer for tenting/trailer camping the Crandall Mountain Campground is good, although it's first come first serve so get there early. There's a Campground in the town, but that's more of an RV park. Glad you liked the video!

Nice video bro! love living in Waterton so far this summer! even though most of the rails are closed there is still a lot to do and see here.

Just wondering if the Bear Humps hike is only over 1 km and is it safe to hike their meaning not to scramble and all.
Hi, it's definitely not a scramble, I've seen many families do it over the years. Could be a hot time in the summer though since the fire destroyed all the tree cover!
Great selection thank you! Driving time aside, how much minimum time do you need to explore Red Rock Canyon?
Thanks! Probably an hour or two, depends how much of it you want to explore!
No lake cruise or Prince of Wales Hotel?
Is there really a lake that has a beach of multi-colored stones?
Zum's after a hike... ANY hike!
That's basically become my tradition when hiking in Waterton!
@@JourneyAlberta As it has for me. I'm very much enjoying your channel, Shawn!
Best milkshakes ever!
great. Make more video in Alberta. I love Alberta,
Sunny thanks for watching. All my videos are from Alberta, check them out!
I have never been to Watertown before. I called the park's office and they mentioned that the lake is quite cold for swimming however people do go for a swim anyway. Any thoughts on this ?
Well like the park said, you can go swimming in the lakes there but the water is incredibly cold since it's in the mountains
@@JourneyAlberta awesome, thanks for the information. 👍
Thanks for posting this video. Great information.
What about in winter at waterton? What are the attractions in january or feb time?

My dad went on the Crypt Lake hike and encountered a black bear. Thankfully, the bear lost interest in him and walked away!
That's generally what black bears do, my mom had a similar encounter near Bertha Lake in Waterton with a black bear!
Dems are all nice things to do, but first for me is straight to the hotel room to pump off to some Penthouse Letters before I even dream of doing any of the things you listed, but a great list and I highly recommend them as well, especially Bears Hump.
You did not mention Welch's Chocolate Shoppe. YOU FAILED :p
Honestly all the shops in the town would be on the list if I could make it again!
No crypt?
JosheyG34 this list is for people just visiting Waterton for the first time, hence why an intense hike like Crypt isn’t on the list
Can you swim in the lakes
Dylan Biddiscombe You can swim in the lakes but they are very cold
Dylan Biddiscombe yes
Dylan Biddiscombe yes but they are super cold and you can get swimmers ich
Journey Alberta Actually I swam in Cameron Lake in the middle of August and it was really warm! I was surprised
well you cant do anything now because it is ingulfed in flames
Anonymous Ryley yeah sadly, however from what I'm reading pretty much all of the townsite has been saved and the visitor center beside the Bear's Hump Hike burned down
Is this all near lethbridge?
Yes very close to Lethbridge!
