She came from Greece, she had a thirst for knowledge She studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College, That's where I Caught her eye. She told me that her dad was loaded I said, "In that case I'll have a rum and coca-cola." She said, "Fine," And in thirty seconds time She said, "I want to live like common people. I want to do whatever common people do, I want to sleep with common people I want to sleep with common people like you." Well, what else could I do? I said, "I'll see what I can do." I took her to a supermarket I don't know why but I had to start it Somewhere, So it started there. I said, "Pretend you've got no money," She just laughed and said, "Oh, you're so funny." I said, "Yeah? Well, I can't see anyone else smiling in here." Are you sure you want to live like common people? You want to see whatever common people see You want to sleep with common people, You want to sleep with common people like me. But she didn't understand, She just smiled and held my hand. Rent a flat above a shop, Cut your hair and get a job. Smoke some fags and play some pool, Pretend you never went to school. But still you'll never get it right 'Cause when you're laid in bed at night Watching 'roaches climb the wall If you called your dad he could stop it all. You'll never live like common people You'll never do whatever common people do You'll never fail like common people You'll never watch your life slide out of view, And dance and drink and screw Because there's nothing else to do. Sing along with the common people, Sing along and it might just get you through Laugh along with the common people Laugh along even though they're laughing at you And the stupid things that you do. Because you think that poor is cool. I want to live with common people like you, I want to live with common people like you [etc..]
This band is very clever, and I only realised that since analysing my favourite band for a media project. Rare for people who seem so chilled out, I think they've been intelligent enough to realise that society is just a soul disease, found this style of music as an outlet, and I want in.
Flashdelirium17 I believe one of their fathers was in TSOL and one was associated with The Adolescents, which would explain the awesome Cali punk sound that is in some FIDLAR songs.
Max(drummer) and Elvis(guitar) are the sons of T.S.O.L's keyboardist, Brandon(bass) is the half cousin of them, and Zac(rhythm guitar and normally vocals) is the son of John Carper(I think) a surfboard designer.
Went with 4 friends, got a hotel room and got absolutely smashed at the show. We had one lost wedding ring, one broken pair of glasses, and one friend throwing up in the urinal. Thank god for Uber haha.
13dirty666 Do you even understand the song, the feeling of the poor and how it was in England? Yes it's no Sex Pistols number but Jarvis uses his tone exceptionally well to create andunderlying tone of angst in my opinion. This was a year go and I don't really know why you're commenting but that's my opinion, have a nice night.
I think William Shatners' version was better. This is pretty heavy material for any man to handle, but I think Bill had the proper training. Still, this has some nice ideas.
It's a nice cover, and that's it. It starts way too slow. So it doesn't build that tension, that Pulp did. They sing as powerful in the beginning as in the end. Again no tension. Et cetera. Pulp's original is maybe simple, but clever.
Fidlar is who this song was about. they are voyeurs looking in at garage rock and only seeing "lo-fi! party! beer! drugs!" and at their best they sound like Nobunny/Sneaky Pinks cast offs and at worst Black Lips rejects. this is the epitome of the homogenization of a sub-culture into a fad. it's all so chic and off base i cringe.
garage punk spin on a 90s song
I love it
this cover changed my life
same not for the better
No comments? 664 views? This is one of the greatest covers I've ever heard. And I'm not saying that lightly.
Now it's at 424k.
Hope you still around man to enjoy it.
She came from Greece, she had a thirst for knowledge
She studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College,
That's where I
Caught her eye.
She told me that her dad was loaded
I said, "In that case I'll have a rum and coca-cola."
She said, "Fine,"
And in thirty seconds time
She said,
"I want to live like common people.
I want to do whatever common people do,
I want to sleep with common people
I want to sleep with common people like you."
Well, what else could I do?
I said, "I'll see what I can do."
I took her to a supermarket
I don't know why but I had to start it
Somewhere,
So it started there.
I said, "Pretend you've got no money,"
She just laughed and said, "Oh, you're so funny."
I said, "Yeah?
Well, I can't see anyone else smiling in here."
Are you sure you want to live like common people?
You want to see whatever common people see
You want to sleep with common people,
You want to sleep with common people like me.
But she didn't understand,
She just smiled and held my hand.
Rent a flat above a shop,
Cut your hair and get a job.
Smoke some fags and play some pool,
Pretend you never went to school.
But still you'll never get it right
'Cause when you're laid in bed at night
Watching 'roaches climb the wall
If you called your dad he could stop it all.
You'll never live like common people
You'll never do whatever common people do
You'll never fail like common people
You'll never watch your life slide out of view,
And dance and drink and screw
Because there's nothing else to do.
Sing along with the common people,
Sing along and it might just get you through
Laugh along with the common people
Laugh along even though they're laughing at you
And the stupid things that you do.
Because you think that poor is cool.
I want to live with common people like you,
I want to live with common people like you [etc..]
“and the SERIOUS things you do”
pulp is awesome its good to hear good bands keep them alive sweeet
This band is very clever, and I only realised that since analysing my favourite band for a media project. Rare for people who seem so chilled out, I think they've been intelligent enough to realise that society is just a soul disease, found this style of music as an outlet, and I want in.
You should try to see them live, its even more obvious
I want out

As an enormous fan of the original, and of both Pulp and Fidlar...I approve.
I love them so much already and then i discover they cover one of my favorite band.
I like how they took a four min. and 15 second song and made it a two min. and 44 second song.
Wonders of punk rock covers.
The non-radio edit is 5.51 mins or so. Hats off!
Thats fidlar for you
I enjoy this.

Oh wow I like Fidlar and they re invented a great pulp song
I NEED THIS ON SPOTIFY
This cover is what I live for ngl.
I wish there was some of their garage punk distortion but still a good cover.
'cause me, I pull the screw
I love how Fidlar, unlike many US bands, get the fucking scathing in the song

+simplykhairah original angst? There is no angst in the original
13dirty666 Do you even understand the song, the feeling of the poor and how it was in England? simplykhairah have a skitz much hahaha. Just because it was a year ago doesn't mean I have to go back in time to comment. It's a polished pop song
FILM CREW HOLLA
pray tell, what else is 'garage rock' about? is it possible that these young men are more self-aware than you're giving them credit for?
FUCKING RULES .....
I think William Shatners' version was better. This is pretty heavy material for any man to handle, but I think Bill had the proper training. Still, this has some nice ideas.
Interesting. Almost as good as the Bill Shatner version.
bloody faRT
People said that they like this cover better than mcr's but I don't know...mcr even added some new lyrics and shit I like theirs better...
MCR is whack tho
hey! chill out! i just expressed my opinion i didnt insult fidlar of anything...no reason to be rude hun
@@wendy257go MCR is whack aint no doubt about it.
cause theres nothing else to do
this makes me angry
That's dire. If Jarvis was dead he'd be revolving in his grave.
Get your ears checked.
:v
This cover is so much better than the original
Kamilla Suurkuusk it's almost like people have different taste in music
Stop doing drugs
L
It's a nice cover, and that's it.
It starts way too slow. So it doesn't build that tension, that Pulp did. They sing as powerful in the beginning as in the end. Again no tension. Et cetera.
Pulp's original is maybe simple, but clever.
This is probably one of the only FIDLAR songs that I don't like
Listen on .75x speed for doomer energy
I like My Chemical Romance's cover better. 😏😏
Still a good cover tho.

My Chemical Romance! What a disgrace of a band!
