The Mumbai-Pune expressway is a 6 (8) lane wide controlled-access highway that is not a part of the National Highway system in India. It was fully operationalized in 2002 and introduced new levels of speed and safety in automobile transportation in India. This current expansion comprising of two twin tunnels and cable-stayed bridges aims to bypass hairpin turns present in the Khandala Ghat (mountain pass) and reduce travel distance and provide a more straighter route. This tunneling work carried out through controlled blasting method looks stunning. And as always Droneman videos are spectacular !!!!

@polyglot8946 Outer Road consteuction is easier on a relatively flat land. Mumbai-Pune is a challenging project because of elevation difference of about 600 metres between both cities. Also an expressway connecting two major cities is far more useful and important than an ORR that leads to nowhere. So your comment is very irrelevant and illogical

If yes, then remember that MPE is built on western ghats so making it wider would 1. Cost more and by more I mean a lot more, probably hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars. 2. Uneven terrain would delay to projects by a lot, as not halting the traffic yet continuing the construction would be nearly impossible.

You deserve more than just a like. Making these type of videos requires a lot of patience and money. Moreover very few people take intrest in such valid subjects.
My two concerns with this project: - Runaway vehicle acting as a projectile bomb in downward direction (Mumbai bound) in case of brake failure - Being gassed to death in upward direction (Pune bound) in case of a jam! The project has a 9 km long tunnel (see video). In upward direction heavy vehicles will by revving high on low/medium gear, one can imagine the extent of emission. Hope ventilation is adequate
88 KM is 55 miles. At average speed of 60 MPH or 100 KPH, for example in the US, this would take about one hour. Why does it still take 2 hours to go from Mumbai to Pune??
Good update... Few things that I noticed and would like to comment being a regular traveller on this road. There is considerable amount of traffic increased on this road in last 6 to 7 years. Daily jams is an issue due to heavy vehicles not following lane discipline. New road must be strictly restricted to LMVs and heavy vehicles should be sent via existing ghat road. If heavy vehicles are allowed on missing link, they will create same nonsense traffic and will lead to congestion... Ultimately, no use of having new road. The progress is too slow as compared to other roads. I know the terrain very well but there has been considerable delay...
Khandala ghat was a part of nostalgia if you're 90's or early 00's Yeah I know this ghat also creates traffic jam and accident After the tunnel It will reduce time and traffic jam but honestly we won't see any hill view, waterfalls and khandala ghat anymore Still I will prefer to travel in khandala ghat if there is a another diversion for ghat
