It doesn't get any better than this!
This is exactly why I'm proud to be a Kentuckian!!!! RIP Mr Monroe 💔 😢🙏
Great song by the legendary Bill Monroe!
Great clip from about 1973. Kenny Baker on fiddle, Bill Box on guitar, Jim Morato on banjo and Greg Kennedy on bass. An above average group of Blue Grass Boys.
Looks like Jack Hicks playing bass
How about Kenny.
Probably my very favorite Blue Grass song.
Bill Monroe and Kenny Baker...my two best friends in the world. How lucky I've been. Thanks so much for sharing this great video.
I love the people who come on Bill Monroe's youtube songs, the talk is always a trip
I remember getting invited on stage by Clay Walker to Clog and play Harmonica and sing it too on stage with his band. He loved my Lightupshoes size 2, that's the main reason he had me up on stage 5 July 2004.This was a high honor to get to do a Bill Monroe song with Clay Walker. I sure wish I could've met Bill back when I went to the Grand Ole Opry the first time back in 1977. Best Wishes LittleCountryDJ
Amazing! They're like Garth Brooks, but with talent & no phoniness.
I'm laughing in agreement with you
@@craigplumlee + they don't cry on stage as much.
I love this so much....true music
Fantastic music in every way!
The best still!!!!
This is BADASS!
i never knew Bill to play anything other than a Gibson, F5, i learned something this evening, an Ibanez you say??
Cool.
Multi-instrumentalist Gregg Kennedy on bass. Practically a kid at the time, he reminds me of a young Clint Eastwood in that hat, lol. He excells on piano these days.
superbe image !
I notice this song is done at different time signatures and tempos. I personally, like it faster, and in a higher key. But it's still a wonderful signature bluegrass piece.
Yea it seems he always played it and sung it differently I play this on mandolin and its probably one of the hardest tunes to play so it tends to come out differently each time
Loved Bill's Ibanez. He was later endorsed and did several ads.
No kidding - Ibanez is what he played?
@@1coopjsn Yes, an Ibanez 523 was the exact model I believe 👍🏻
I love to sing BlueGrass songs. But I cannot sing this one. My tongue gets twisted around my teeth when I try to sing "Uncle Pen played the fiddle..." I don't know why! LOL! I love this song, though! Ricky Skaggs does a great job on it, too!
YEE HAW!
The master's hands.
I dunno...Bill really made some ads for Ibanez mandolins, I've seen some of those online somewhere.
Anyway the mandolin on the video is, of course, his 1923 Loar
This is an excellent Blogg. I know you guys know this but for the newbees you can get Bluegrass Music 24/7 on Syrious Radio, Channel 6061. It's not free but it it.
@drp146 ! He reminded me of Clint Eastwood too!!! Totally agree with you!
That's the famous Loar with the gouged headstock (no "Gibson") and broken peghead scroll. Who is that guitarist, he gets a nice G-run in and sings a good lead. Wilburn brothers show was 1974-1973, could that be Bill Box?
How about that quick g run with the pick up note - can’t miss a note at that speed!
Kenny Baker was a cousin of my fathers.
That man had a smooth fiddlin arm
Was that Vic Jordan on banjo?!
Anyone found the Elvis Presley tape or acetate of this?
Did Uncle Yo Yo split the money?
Could they feed their family?
Thats no Ibanez.......
