  • A team of volcanologists and engineers from the Universities of Bristol and Cambridge have collected measurements from directly within volcanic clouds, together with visual and thermal images of inaccessible volcano peaks.
During a ten-day research trip the team carried out many proof-of-concept flights at the summits of both Volcán de Fuego and Volcán de Pacaya in Guatemala. Using lightweight modern sensors they measured temperature, humidity and thermal data within the volcanic clouds and took images of multiple eruptions in real-time.

Great footage! And what a wonderful way to use this technology. I live close to Fuego Volcano, and it's a perfect spot to be able to study volcanic activity. I am able to get hours of great footage and photos due to the frequent eruptions, and I'm so glad to see your university take advantage. Thank you for sharing!

This is a fine example of how drones can serve science and its advanced technology for research and observation of natural phenomena dangerous to man as volcanoes, not to record on cities, people or in the middle of the runways Of planes full of people. Bravo for the spectacular images and that scientific work so meritorious.
