Fuji's BAD ASS 50mm f1.0 is unique - RED35 Review

- I've longed for Fujifilm's fastest lens, the 50mm f1.0 and it finally arrived and I took it out for some low light photography last Christmas. It's a big bad fat lens that proves to be the BEST 50mm f1 in the world. #photography #fujifilmxt5 #streetphotography

Looks like fun, man. The fact that there are special lenses in so many different systems makes me wonder why folks don't do less arguing over them and more getting their minds blown in new ways lol
Absolutely! I like lenses, period. If they are special, they are special. The body is only a vehicle to deliver the image but the lens is what 'draws' the pictures and give you that 'look' in the end. Hence I am going to continue my quest to find special lenses in the world!
Thanks for one more great review... many of the characteristics (and negatives) are of course because of the focal length, but the character is specific to the design.
If you want something quite similar and (much) less expensive, try the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2.
Was the lens that finally cured me from missing my Olympus 75mm f/1.8 - it is sharper even in f/1.2. Is simply amazing.
Can this be used on M4/3 Olympus ?
@tapptom Nope, is a Fujifilm X Mount lens.
I have reviewed the Viltrox 75mm 1.2 on Nikon Z and it's a great lens, though it's not f1.0 hahaha. I am just being a snob
I have both and love the sharpness of the viltrox 75mm but the rendering and character of the fuji 50mm f1 is unique
Very good review. I get it. You love the lens.I've got 30 or so Fujifilm fit lenses for my X-T3 and have 3 that I feel this way about.
Thanks! Do tell about your magic 3 lenses :)
@@Red35Photography OK, first a sentence of needed background: 76, had my own darkroom @ 16 and shoot manual focus unless I'm chasing family babies (Thankfully rare these days). XF 35mm f/1.4, XF 56mm f/1.2, and the much maligned Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2. I also love most everthing Carl Zeiss, especially the uncoated Biotars. BTW, you are a natural at this-- stick with it.
Which 56mm? The older one or the newer one with WR?
@@SubhashishPradhan The older one: Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R. While autofocus is a bit slower than the new version, I mostly shoot manual focus. I bought it as a refirbished lens from Fujifilm US for a little over $500.
Formula 1 mentioned! Jokes aside its funny how I have the same exact combo; X-M5, 27MM and SmallRig brown leather halfcase. Only difference is, I got silver Fuji. The lens look intimitating compared to smol X-M5.
Your lens cap takes picture?
Agreed it's massive 😂 is a surgical athletes support an optional extra 🤣I looked at this lens but the price and size made me opt for the 56mm F1.2
Mainly for background separation rather than bokeh balls.
Looks likely to be a classic.
But definitely a niche lens
yeah, like so many others, usually these classics that gives special look are niche. Like the Super Nokton 29mm f0.8 or the ultra expensive Leica Noctilux.
@Red35Photography sigh. So many lenses So little time
Cartoony to use on a xm5
LOL hahah it does.
nformal
an act of urinating.
"you have to pay to go in for a tinkle"
So basically a 75 1.5 FF equiv?
so basically a 50 f1
@ not really. Most people speak FF equivalent and you use it like it would be a 75mm. Yes apsc is more numerous but most people understand what a 75mm ish focal range is on FF. And used as such you will need to be further back and will not be as shallow as a f/1 on a FF body. I agree physically it’s a 50 f/1 but comparing the same vs what you would get from a FF body. It’s not that impressive.
do not need to compare. 75ish, 85ish, 95ish, 105ish... who cares... got the picture i wanted? yes... enough...
@ That sounds ridiculous. You cannot achieve the same picture between certain focal lengths. If that is the case, there will be no reason to have more than 1 focal length for any camera system.
@@Zakna don't care about the focal lenght, the result is what matters to me. i'm not thinking ff equivalences when using my 50 f1. once again, 50 f1.
FUJIFILM XF 56mm f1.2 WR is more practical IMO.
