    Impressive tutorial and love your devotion to the purity of the experience! Especially all the work you did with the Bezel art! I often found myself taking an insane amount of hours trying to manually move the screen scaling to match the overlays screen openings. Would love to see if you had a faster technique to get them into place with the least amount of steps. Also would like to know how you had multiple presets for overlays to be changed on the fly, that was pretty mind blowing. Subscribed!

    Hi Jasen. That was very helpful. You got a new subscriber! I never realized you can do per game mapping in retroarch. Do you recommend this way over remapping through MAME's menu configuration? That's how I've always done it.

    • @IntegrumRetro
      @IntegrumRetro  2 роки тому

      Yes and no. For example, in NBA jam, MAME has button 1 as "Turbo" but on the actual control panel, turbo sits under the Shoot & Jump buttons, so I believe that should be MAME's button 3. On a keyboard encoder, I want my Button 1 to be shoot, Button 2 to be jump and Button 3 to be turbo. So when I disagree with how mame laid out the default button layout, I'll do per game overrides in mame, otherwise I remap Retroarch to match MAME if MAME has it right, but Retroarch doesnt. I'll be releasing a video soon on configuring Retroarch with keyboard encoders (Think IPAC and Keywiz) and some of the default MAME keyboard mapping "issues" If you leave MAME be, you can also remap the Retroarch controller to match the MAME backend.

    It really is a HF but I finally worked it out a few months back.... Mapping the tribute 64 to N64 emu, the 8bitdo M30 to Saturn, Genesis and PCE, and an xbox one elite for everything else (that was the easy one, easy as pie but you need to work out which buttons on different controllers are equivalent to the buttons on a standard xbox x input layout).
    This is one area where OpenEmu on mac just shites on RA.. just plug in any controller and then it shows a pic of the console's real controller, you click and map in realtime. SO easy. I can't understand why RA doesn't do something like this. Same with artwork. But everything else, RA is amazing, like zero latency play and many other things which is why I stick to it for the retro consoles especially.

    • @IntegrumRetro
      @IntegrumRetro  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, that's one thing I like about configuring the Xemu controller, a nice visual aid. I could at least make artwork to help people understand the mapping. The default controller config files at github.com/libretro/retroarch-joypad-autoconfig/tree/master/dinput are supposed to do the mapping properly. I'll have to experiment with more controls to see if I can help people streamline this better.

      @@IntegrumRetro Well my M30 pad seems to be there in the list but by default it doesn't have even remotely correct mapping in RA. Besides the start button every other button is wrong. This is with genesis plus GX core. SO maybe *I* don't know how to use these profiles? Do I need to manually load them then save them for the core? Never done this.

    • @IntegrumRetro
      @IntegrumRetro  2 роки тому

      @@teddym2808 From Retroarch maine menu, go to settings, inputs. Then remap however many M30 pads you have and click on "save controller profile." It will save the profile in ~retroarch/autoconfig/dinput directory (meaning that's where you can delete it if it goes wrong). When you start up retroarch you should see a popup showing it recognizes your controller and then it will apply the remaps you made.
      But of course, you'll need to know examples like Retroarch Y Button = A, B, or C button on a genesis controller? So load up a game you know well so you can figure out how the retropad is default mapped to the Genesis core, then you can program your controller accordingly. Do it once, and email me your controller profile at jasen@integrumretro.com because I'd like to gather all the proper remap files I can. =)

    EDIT 3: I installed the latest X-Box drivers and set the QanBa to X-Box on the hardware device. Now all joystick movements can be manually be configurated. In games tho, it is partially necessary - if stuttering movements occur - to press the QanBa´s "TURBO" buttom + moving in the stuttering direction, until everything is running smooth. I don´t know why that is. Only exception so far is DIG DUG, which doesn´t work at all with the QanBa Joystick. Keep in mind, I am only using the ATARI 2600 core with Retroarch!
    EDIT 2: Forget it, actually Chopper Command is the only game, QanBa works korrekt with joystick movement...I´m really annoyed by now.
    EDIT 1: I finally solved the issue and got the QanBa Plus Q4 to work. I updated the Joystick profiles and autoconfigured it (retroarch did everything). Now the left analog stick is set to "forced" and the config entries say "AXIS..." and not "Hat"! The "MODE" funktion on the QanBa has to be set OFF to work with the games. Maybe that helps someone, who has had similar trouble.
    ------------
    This is a fantastic tutorial. Thank you so much. I still can't configure the analog stick of the Qanba Q4. Whenever I move the left analog stick up or down for configuration, retroarch goes mad and doesn't save the movement. It´s like this: "Hat #0 up" and "Hat #0 down" just don´t save the movement. The buttons and left analog stick "left" and "right" works as it should. Can I fix this somewhere, maybe in a config-file? I have no clue. All settings are done in "Controler One" menu. "Quanba Joystick Plus" is shown and recognized. Analog to Digital is set to "left analog stick". In games, the joystick doesn´t work at all (only the buttons), even not the configured left and right movements. It´s so annoying.😢Can you help me?
    PS. X-Box controller is perfectly working btw. And the QanBa is perfectly working under the standalone MAME emulator.

  • @teddym2808

    OK yes your tutorial is all about the traditional x input Xbox layout, but the problem is when you want to use various third party controllers, for example with 6 face buttons, or an N64 controller with a totally different layout, or a GameCube controller, or arcade stick etc. The issue is finding out which button matches which button on the Xbox layout and it's a nightmare to do. Well, trial and error.. This is something where retroarch truly is overly complex and crazy where they could simply add a live input mapping per core. For example, you load up a genesis game. You start the proposed input mapper. And then you just turn on and grab which controller you want to use for the genesis core, and as the core asks in sequence "press to map to A button", (with A button being of course A on a genesis controller), you press whatever key you want on the controller to equal the genesis a button, and so on. Done in 30 seconds max. Like the way Kega fusion does it. You can choose any controller and quickly map that in real time as you like. I will keep pushing for a script to be added that can do this, but I doubt I will get anywhere as I have been trying for years LOL.
    Anyway I will give an example for anyone who wants to use the fantastic 8bitdo M30
    Left bumper = left bumper on xbox one
    *Right bumper equals left trigger on xbox one*
    *Z = right bumper on xbox one*
    *C = right trigger on xbox one*
    All the other buttons match a geneis controller, x = x, y = y, a = a and b = b, start = start but you'll still need to change those too as all the genesis cores are mapped incorrectly to this kind of controller by default.

    • @IntegrumRetro
      @IntegrumRetro  2 роки тому

      If you have a genesis controller you can point me to, I'll buy it and make a video about it. What I like about Retroarch is the autoconfiguration files included for Dinput/Xinput devics. But they don't have them all. Point me to the controller you use and I'll configure it properly and submit the changes to the Retroarch contoller library on github so all future releases will have an auto config for that controller.
      You can look up the controller profiles (Dinput, I'm assuming the controller you have is Dinput) at github.com/libretro/retroarch-joypad-autoconfig/tree/master/dinput

      Yes, load retroarch without any game. Go into Settings - Inputs and select port 1. Change the controller to the one you want to modify. Remap the buttons the way you feel they should be on your controller and click on save controller profile. This will make an auto config profile in /retroarch/autoconfig/xinput or Dinput depending on what your device supports. But now it should load every game with your new profile.
      I've also seen that winkyness when what I thought was an xinput device was being seen by windows as a dinput device. Checking where your autoconfig file gets saved (xinput dir or Dinput dir) will confirm which your controller is being seen as.

      @Fess Rose email me at jasen@integrumretro.com I have a Megacade as well, and it's a bit more complex than a single config file but I can jump on a call and explain why.

    Very good video. Question: is there a way to make RA recognise my xbox controller's guide/home button? PC-W10x64

      It may not recognize it for what it's for, but you can map it to most any of the virtual controller functions. For example, you could map it to the exit game hotkey.

      Be sure you have configured your controller input to xinput.

    Do you have a tool to remap Gun4IR controllers with stable ids? Can I pay you for it if it works for Supermodel?

    What? That arcade binding is all kind of wrong, even in the arcade the punch buttons are the top row and kicks on the bottom row. So it would be LP, MP on X and Y and LK, MK, on A and B, HP on LB and HK on RB. Hahaha I'm not sure why you prefer punch on the bottom, lol, that's so weird to me.
