I suggest to watch it in order, cause some don't make sense unless you watch the previous ones. Theres a playlist that has all of the overwatch cinematics in order
@@GOTGames Also, the "Reunion" animated short has a post-credits scene called "Roadtrip" that was shown during a Blizzcon panel the same year the short was released, but was never put on the official Overwatch channel. You can find it by searching on UA-cam easily enough.
There is a proper order to watch these in to follow the story. If you want to react to all of them, I highly suggest watching them in the order that they released. If you need the names here they are: - 1. Recall 2. Alive 3. Dragons 4. Hero 5. The last Bastion 6. Infiltration 7. Rise and Shine 8. Honor and Glory 9. Shooting Star 10. Reunion 11. The Wastelander 12. Kiriko 13. Calling 14. A great Day
Yes, please keep reacting to all of these. ALL of them are totally worth it, I promise. There are a few that are real tear-jerkers. There is one that has no dialogue that will still make you cry (I am 99% sure you will get tears). Blizzard knows what they are doing with these. :)
The Shimada brothers are some of my favorite characters. The story of the dragons is symbolic of what happened to Hanzo and Genji. Hanzo was heir to the clan throne and was commanded to kill Genji for "disobeying the clan". Genji gets saved by overwatch and ends up becoming a cyborg. Fun fact: Hanzo is more skilled with a sword, but after "killing" his brother he took up the bow and now refuses to use a sword again.
The Animated shorts is what sold Overwatch to a lot of people back in the day. Blizzard was pumping out animated gold and honestly are beyond stupid that they never capitilized on making a full series or movies. But then they became soulless money grubbing with the game as it transitioned to Overwatch "2" and failed to actully deliver on what they said it would be. But the Shorts they produced for the game are amazing and definitely worth checking out Luke!
Bro the first time i watched this i instantly became a fan of everything about overwatch goddamn those were the good days this animated short is literally the best thing that came out of overwatch imo
I feel like, coming back into Hanzo's life after being gone for years that it would be understandable that Hanzo would feel an overload of emotions. I feel like his anger came from a place of confusion and self-hatred and that his drawing his bow again was done because of this surge of emotions.
Fun fact, Hanzo's dragon quote begins with "Ryuu" Genji's quote begins with "Ryuujin", both of them contain "Ryuu" which a japanese for "dragon" as far as I know. This is fun because the character Ryuuji from ToraDora shares this same name foundation, after all he is a dragon (just like the anime name says, the "dora" part of "toradora" is for "doragon" - dragon. Oh, and taiga is basically how you say "tiger" since she's a palm-top tiger. And one word for tiger in japanese is "tora" so "toradora" is really just Taiga&Ryuuji). Random info dump over. Dragons has been the first cinematic trailer from overwatch I've seen, it hooked me so hard, the audio in it is just amazing! Can't wait for more overwatch/blizzard cinematic reactions! Blizz cinematics are S tiers after all!
No, the game was great in the first year, the e-sport might have never been great but the game was I don't want to pretend that it was never good, I want to make it very clear that they had something great and they ruined it
I would have to agree. The game direction after Overwatch 2 left me with a sour taste, but the animated shorts and lore will forever hold a special place for me.
Another cool thing is that map actually has (had) the features from this video IN THE GAME like the shurikens in the wall and tear in the lantern from the arrow.
The entire gaming community has always asked Blizzard if they would make an animated series, because they have the quality to animate and the creativity to make stories. We're still waiting to be surprised.
Nah, unfortunately, they fired basically everyone involved in making the lore, that's why its all fucked up now, and also why they cancelled the story mode
Blizzard should have made a series on this the lore and animation is perfect how fast you go hooked is an example of how well this could do even a movie like this would be great
The thing is, Hanzo killed Genji for completely different reasons than the legend you hear in the video. They're both from a prominent Yakuza family, and prior to his "death" Genji was a total wastrel and the epitome of the arrogant, reckless young master. Hanzo, being the successor, had to kill him to set an example for the family before Genji's recklessness destroyed the family. He did it because it was his duty, not because he was seeking power. Genji mellowed out massively after his near death experience that got him turned into a cyborg to save his life. Hanzo has been dealing with the dark side of life and is not a trusting soul at all, considering he's been hunted and is haunted by his former actions. He's upset at Genji looking at the world so Black and White, considering all the Grey he's slogged through in his life. He aims at Genji more out of exasperation at what he feels is his naivety, hence him saying, "Real life is not like the stories our father told us!" Hanzo can be a dick, but I thought it deserved more context.
The music in this cinematic is so epic, just like in the others. I wouldnt mind watching you to react to all of these cinematics. Maybe even from some other videogames.
wait i've been watching your taylor reactions for a bit and now I see this? please do more! watching people watch the overwatch cinematics is actually my favourite thing lol
Genji is a Cyborg and his cybernetics is what keeps him alive. He is very enlightened as he learned to deal with his disgust of his body and the imposter syndrome of his prosthetics and his humanity. He was taught by another character, a Monk Zenyata.
dragons animated short is definitely one of my favorites, if you calculate the sum time of all the animated shorts, it's easily the length of a movie lol this short got me into overwatch and still play today on and off lol
Haha why are you invested? Quality storytelling, scenography ,soundtrack and voice acting. If Blizz could make a game with half the quality they put in they're cinematics they'd be amazing.
Do check out the Warcraft 3 game cinematics & maybe some gameplay cutscenes. Other great cinematics from the same game company Blizzard will be StarCraft game series and Diablo game series. other cinematic games: Final Fantasy X, X-2 Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2 and Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XV Final Fantasy VII remake
If you want to actually understand overwatch lore, the place to best start is probably with the 3 Genesis shorts, and then the rest of them in release order, including the overwatch 2 reveal short (I think it’s called zero hour?)
Yoo dragons is definitely my favorite short from overwatch! Ngl this one got me interested in it and i remember going out and preordering the game lol. I still play it occasionally with friends now but it definitely feels like a shadow of its own self. Ever since the Blizzard controversy happened it’s been hard to enjoy playing their games now
I wish you could watch the entire thing in one sitting without pausing. Since you could lose momentum with the impactful moments. Still, great reaction! Hope you continue watching the other ones! I envy people who are watching these for the first time, i wish i could forget so i can experience them for the first time all over again!
i would love to see you react to literally every OW cinematic! as others have mentioned, there is an order to watch them in, as some are connected! also, you keep talking about Ninja Assassin, and i will have to go watch it again, i love that movie too!
If... I mean when you watch the Overwatch Cinematic Trailer just bare in mind it was shown at Blizzcon with people having no clue whatsoever about Overwatch. I watched that Blizzcon stream live and was so invested in it I forgot I was watching Blizzcon in general.
Pretty much the reason Genji looks like a zombie under the mask is bc when they first fought, Hanzo fucked him up REAL badly. He only lived bc an amazing doctor called Mercy (in game healer) saved his life, but had to make him a cyborg basically to keep him alive. Hanzo was better than Genji with a sword when they first fought, but Hanzo was so ashamed of himself for killing his brother that he vowed to never use a sword again, hence the bow. All the lore from these animated shorts are canon, and yes you should def watch more of them.
The Overwatch shorts are really well made and its such an underrated react content, hope you watch all of them. There is also the Overwatch Genesis miniseries that goes into more detail about the lore if you are interested.
I would definitely recommend checking out the shorts honour and glory, kiriko and alive. Just some info about the video, the story about the dragons in the video is just telling you about Hanzo and genji’s story, they aren’t dragons themselves, the bad guy with the mask isn’t wearing a mask, he is actually a robot and after his fight with hanzo, genji was given a cybernetic body, he looks like a zombie because his body was basically rebuilt
Please watch more. WHATEVER people say about the game itself, the cinematics are incredible! Some people have already commented the proper watching order and I recommend following their advice.
Hanzo fights with a bow because he killed Genji with a sword (Hanzo was superior in sword skills) but because of the regret he felt he swore to never touch/use a sword again.
If you like western theme, I wholeheartedly recommend you to react "Reunion". And my personal favorite animated short is "Hero", also want you to react, too!
Please watch them all here is the order I recommend. 1. "Recall" 2. "Alive" 3. "Overwatch Cinematic Trailer" (technically first, but happens after Recall and Alive) 4. "Dragons" 5. "Hero" 6. "Last bastion" 7. "Infiltration" 8. "JunkerTown: The Plan" 9. "Rise and Shine" 10. "Honour and Glory" 11. "Shooting Star" 12. "Reunion" 13. "Overwatch 2 Official Cinematic Announcement Trailer: Zero Hour" 14. "The Wastelander" 15. "Kiriko" 16."Calling"
7:27 He said "Ryujin". Ryuu = Dragon in Japanese. Ryujin = Dragon god. When your character activates ultimate in the game you and enemy team hear your character's ultimate line in the native language to the character, while your teammates hears the ultimate line in English(or in the language of the system that they chose on their game client). It is made to help your teammates distinguish who is ulting if both teams have the same hero. Example: You chose play Mercy (she is Swiss and speaks Swiss dialect of German) What you and enemy team hear -> "Helden sterb nicht!" => "Heroes don’t die!" What your teammates hear -> "Heroes never die!" The same with those two; (Robot ninja dude) Genji's ultimate line: "Ryujin no ken wo kurae" => "Eat the sword of the Dragon God" What your teammates hear in the game -> "The Dragon becomes me!" (Archer dude) Hanzo's ultimate line: "Ryuu ga waga teki wo kurau" => "The Dragon eats my enemies" What your teammates hear in the game -> "Let the dragon consume my enemies"
Btw, Genji looks like a "Zombie" because he was saved by Overwatch and turned into cyborg after Hanzo almost killed him (no wonder Hanzo surprised that he is alive, nobody should live after that). Hanzo mutilated and chopped Genji so bad that Genji's half body is just a machine. And rest of his body in scars. That's why we see only glimpse of his face. Genji had a real existential crisis after the incident for years but eventually he found his peace and now came to give peace for his brother that still didn't forgive himself for what he did. Real in game line of Hanzo: "I must restore my honour!" Real in game dialog; Genji: - I live, my brother. Why are you still grieving ? Hanzo: - You wasn't the only thing that I lost on that day.
The dragons are a metaphor. "Real life is not like the stories father told us". Overwatch has deep lore, but that's not really it. First thing to understand, is that this is a futuristic world, that has living sentient robots, that has already survived a robot uprising. So like, tech is crazy. Essentially, Hanzo and Genji were the heads of a crime syndicate triad. Genji was a bit too much of a free-will, the clan didn't like that and Hanzo was forced to eliminate his brother. He couldn't handle the guilt, and left the clan. Genji survived through the assistance of cyborg enhancements. He's literally as cyber-ninja. The cool thing about overwatch when it came out is that this battle is canon in game. In that map, all the destruction that took place in this fight is still there. Even down to Hanzo's arrow that Genji deflected sticking out of the floor.
Overwatch animated shorts are REALLY good. If you keep reacting to those then I am definitely looking forward to your reaction to Mei's backstory (Rise and Shine) and Reinhardt's (Honor and Glory). And yes, other shorts are AT LEAST as good, in my opinion Dragons is by far the weakest overwatch animated short.
overwatch as an anime is sick, overwatch as a game....well its fun but its a game i only play with friends if were all drunk and its fun. Dont think i can play it sober anymore
Yeah Overwatch is pretty rich in lore. And it could've been more so if Overwatch 2 delivered on the story campaign promise. You can gather a lot from watching the cinematics. Blizzard has banger cinematics if nothing else.
W8 a friggin second. Luke has NOT seen any of the Overwatch animated shorts? Oh boy, down this rabbit hole we go. Just as other have mentioned, these ones should be viewed in the order they were released since they do follow a certain storyline. . . . Btw, for the ones that know. - Mei. - Reinhardt. - Bastion. Which one out of the three will hit Luke harder? Place your bets people.
I use to play the original OW so appreciate you reacting to these cause they are amazing animations. It is unfortunate how the game is now with "OW2", but still can appreciate their animated shorts. It always shows how much personality they bring into these.
God, I remember that map.... One of the worst map Overwatch 1 had. But if you really want the meme of those 2 brothers.. one is "Handsoap" (hanzo, the arrow boi.) The other is "I need healing" or "nice butt" (Genji, the cyber ninja.)
Hey Luke, I would like you to react to a new big gacha game that has been released this month, the name is wuthering waves or wuwa for short. I really love their cinematics for their early release. Thanks for the reactions as always!!

The Last Bastion, Honor and Glory, Rise and Shine, Hero reactions needed!!! Most emotional stories
💯

Well, we're in the Overwatch lore rabbit hole now. Buckle up and enjoy the ride, it's the best thing Overwerwatch has to offer.
besides the 34th rule
it used to be... the current lore is so messed up
🔥
Nah the best thing is the pron. Then the shorts. Lore also became wack.
The only thing. The game is kinda fun with friends for arcade or custom matches though.

Honor and Glory next. That one hits hard.

"Alive" goes so hard

probably the only things overwatch did right were their animated shorts and lore
Overwatch was fun, sadly they ruined everything with "overwatch 2" update
They honestly should just drop the game entirely and make a set of movies.
Overwatch 🤝 League of Legends
No, the game was great in the first year, the e-sport might have never been great but the game was
I don't want to pretend that it was never good, I want to make it very clear that they had something great and they ruined it

I think the summoning words in english are Hanzo: "Dragongod, strike/devour my enemy" and Genji: "Dragongod, reside in my sword"
The music in this cinematic is so epic, just like in the others. I wouldnt mind watching you to react to all of these cinematics. Maybe even from some other videogames.
YO I WASN’T EXPECTING THIS! YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS LITTLE SERIES FROM THE OVERWATCH TEAM
Omg finally overwatch reactions!!
wait i've been watching your taylor reactions for a bit and now I see this? please do more! watching people watch the overwatch cinematics is actually my favourite thing lol
The Golden Age of Overwatch, I need more reaction for Overwatch animated histories
OMG PLEASE react to the other cinematics as well. They are insanely good, and it's worth it 100%
ow at its peak was so hype. you just had to be there type vibes
Blizz really missed out by not making a full animated series out of Overwatch. The shorts and lore are the best parts about Overwatch.
Overwatch does amazing, cinema quality animated shorts, which only makes the fact they don't make a movie even more frustrating

10:28 yeah, I agree. Hanzo is a 'chipatama'.
i would love to see you react to literally every OW cinematic! as others have mentioned, there is an order to watch them in, as some are connected!
also, you keep talking about Ninja Assassin, and i will have to go watch it again, i love that movie too!
I love that you are reacting to the Overwatch Animated shorts. I hope you will enjoy them. They are great.
This is why we've been asking for a proper story mode!
Kuma has a personal top 150 anime openings video he just dropped
I'll check it out 💯
If... I mean when you watch the Overwatch Cinematic Trailer just bare in mind it was shown at Blizzcon with people having no clue whatsoever about Overwatch. I watched that Blizzcon stream live and was so invested in it I forgot I was watching Blizzcon in general.
The dragon story is more of a parable
please, watch all the overwatch videos!! all their cinematic short films are just as great quality as this one! they are a lot of fun!

I am ready for this journey
I'm so happy you're doing these now! There's lots of good ones, my favourite one is the Kiriko one though it hits so hard lol
Please watch them all here is the order I recommend.
1. "Recall"
2. "Alive"
3. "Overwatch Cinematic Trailer" (technically first, but happens after Recall and Alive)
4. "Dragons"
5. "Hero"
6. "Last bastion"
7. "Infiltration"
8. "JunkerTown: The Plan"
9. "Rise and Shine"
10. "Honour and Glory"
11. "Shooting Star"
12. "Reunion"
13. "Overwatch 2 Official Cinematic Announcement Trailer: Zero Hour"
14. "The Wastelander"
15. "Kiriko"
16."Calling"
Would be cool if you checked out "The Last Bastion". It's another short like this
Yes, all of them in release order.
as an overwatch player, this makes me happy~
If this cinematic got you, can't wait for the bastion one.
Mann overwatch really should make movie
It would be great if you would react to more overwatch animated shorts, next one "Alive" short? Please?
Now time to watch: HANZO VS GENJI Rap Battle by JT Music (Overwatch Song).
Example: You chose play Mercy (she is Swiss and speaks Swiss dialect of German)
What you and enemy team hear -> "Helden sterb nicht!" => "Heroes don’t die!"
What your teammates hear -> "Heroes never die!"
The same with those two;
(Robot ninja dude) Genji's ultimate line: "Ryujin no ken wo kurae" => "Eat the sword of the Dragon God"
What your teammates hear in the game -> "The Dragon becomes me!"
(Archer dude) Hanzo's ultimate line: "Ryuu ga waga teki wo kurau" => "The Dragon eats my enemies"
What your teammates hear in the game -> "Let the dragon consume my enemies"
Btw, Genji looks like a "Zombie" because he was saved by Overwatch and turned into cyborg after Hanzo almost killed him (no wonder Hanzo surprised that he is alive, nobody should live after that). Hanzo mutilated and chopped Genji so bad that Genji's half body is just a machine. And rest of his body in scars. That's why we see only glimpse of his face.
Genji had a real existential crisis after the incident for years but eventually he found his peace and now came to give peace for his brother that still didn't forgive himself for what he did.
Real in game line of Hanzo: "I must restore my honour!"
Real in game dialog;
Genji: - I live, my brother. Why are you still grieving ?
Hanzo: - You wasn't the only thing that I lost on that day.
Please please please watch all of them. In order preferably. ❤
PLEEEEASE react to "The Wastelander" and "The Plan", they're my favourites and they are so fun

Came for the Taylor Swift reactions, stayed for this. I haven't played in AGES oop but I still count myself in this fandom.
More Overwatch reaction pls. ❤
I'd also like to suggest you watch the "Kiriko" Overwatch 2 video. It's really good
You WILL watch all of them right?
Valorant agent reveal and map releases are cool too
Games kinda So-so but the story is very lit. I really wish they just make a series or a movie
I use to play the original OW so appreciate you reacting to these cause they are amazing animations. It is unfortunate how the game is now with "OW2", but still can appreciate their animated shorts. It always shows how much personality they bring into these.
I miss when Overwatch was good.
it really would be best to watch them in order to know whats going on and who the characters are :} love the video though
7:27 He said ryūjin which means dragon in Japanese
I know you don't actually know the lore that well but leave my boy Hanzo alone XD
You should do Alive next!
You have to continue
overwatch honor and glory is more close to european and has the same vibes as this one, actually most overwatch trailers has the same vibes
Honor and Glory. Always.
It will be better if you watch the animation in order.
Overwatch Lore is peak.
Yessss
I suggest checking out the valorant cinematics aswell.
God, I remember that map....
One of the worst map Overwatch 1 had.
But if you really want the meme of those 2 brothers.. one is "Handsoap" (hanzo, the arrow boi.)
The other is "I need healing" or "nice butt" (Genji, the cyber ninja.)
Hey Luke, I would like you to react to a new big gacha game that has been released this month, the name is wuthering waves or wuwa for short. I really love their cinematics for their early release. Thanks for the reactions as always!!
In my opinion the origin story of sigma is the best cinematic they made, though this is a close second.
Shooting star next please
please react to more of the cinematics
Woh this is unexpected! I clicked so fast
Please watch "Honor & Glory" also from Overwatch
This is cannon lore. Unfortunately now that Microsoft took over Blizzard, the lore team for Overwatch got layed-off.
