The Marble Conveyer Belt is Completed and it delivers. - lifts 8 marbles per crank turn. - thanks to it being driven by ratchets and pistons, it makes a short halt to load and unload the marbles, on exactly the same spot every time. - The pistons are connected to the crank shaft with a 2:1 gear reduction which means that the conveyer belt go in time with the music, and in half time. I can even use the mechanical sounds from the ratchets and the marbles climbing the fish stair to create parts of the beats. - I only had one kick drum channel up and running so the kick drum plays on 2-4 like a snare normally would. Sounds a little strange but I just made this piece of music to demonstrate the concepts are working. (no music you hear in the videos are going to be used for the album, its quick and dirty functional pieces for the videos only) - Its been a journey but we are now on our way. Again. - the throw of the pistons s 40mm, the pitch of the chain is 15,875x2 mm, an imperial value, and it happens to be exactly twice the marble diameter. All this makes it possible to lift exactly one row of marbles per crank turn. The ratchets move 40 mm but only grabs onto the chain to move it exactly 31,75mm per crank turn. The carriers are flame polished cnc:ed acrylic - The chain was custom made in Japan and I waited 5 months for it to be delivered. haha. Of all the time consuming darlings on the MMX I love the conveyer belt /fish stair combo the most. - the marbles looks like they are stuck over the demagnetiser wheel, this is by design, as soon new marbles come into the pipes from below, the marbles are slowly pushed over the demag wheel which ensures perfect demagnetisation. - thanks for watching and believing in the project, good luck with everything that you are doing! He will also need to do several tests to dismantle, and reassembly of the MMX. He may also need to do a condensation test and maybe a discharge system as well.
Absolutely stunning. The amount of complex tolerances between each notes rhythm from the machine itself, the amount of time it must take to work the equations out for the notes to ay at the right sequence, and all the trial and error to produce this magnificent natural sound from such a Victorian Era meets Steam punk build is just amazing. Keep building good sir.
Because the first one was incredible and this one is basically just an auto-piano with a one marble drum beet, so seems like he really phoned it in this time. Its just because a lot of us were expecting more, much more. Look -> ua-cam.com/video/IvUU8joBb1Q/v-deo.html

This is clearly an unusual way to create great music, not in tradition but sounds much cooler than the music being created nowadays. This is a completely different approach of creating good music using an uncommon instrument. Hats off to Martin 👍👍👍
If you showed the MMX to an outsider and told them that this thing you have constructed is the lifting system for the MMX, the outsider would think it was a hodge podge of pistons and gears and whatnot, and they are somewhat correct. But if you start up the machine and let them have a closer look, it strangely feels right. Brilliant work Martin. We're at the end game now boys.
Oh well it still was a great comment and agree with you. You've earned a like keep up the great comments! No not a UA-cam bot or working for UA-cam if your questioning why I'm being. It's just in my nature. Have a nice day!!
I was shocked! The 2021 version is as different from this one as this is from the original marble machine. Even if some parts like the conveyor itself seem to have stood the test of time.
I took a year brake form watching and I'm just here like "where did everything go?" This isn't the marble machine x anymore. Its something entirely different
Me too! I have been watching his videos for nearly a year, as each part came together. But to see it all working you can see what a true mechanical marvel it is. There is just so much to take in!
There have been a few times that you could call something a beat by the marble machine. It is the first to be self-sustaining and not edited into a full beat, but I would not call it the first ever.
This ist so f***ing amazing. I think it makes even more fun to watch because I know almost every part in this machine and the hard work behind it. For me as an engineering student this ist truly art. Maybe even more than the music ;)
Yeah, even seeing it built step-by-step, it's still impressive to look at. Imagine how people will react when their first glimpse of the MMX is in its completed form.
You are not alone in that sentiment. I love the music but the machine and the intricate mind behind its construction is the key aspect for me. I can watch the machine just running for hours, marveling at how smooth it all runs (But aware of the ton of work trial and error that went into making it!)
I feel that the machine is apart of the music. The sounds of it all. The cranking and the belts working. The marbles rolling around and being picked up. It just adds to the music itself. If you take that away. It feels like half a song. Not complete. The machine is the heart of the music. It is the heart of the art in motion.
The way you got the marbles to constantly bounce off the drum into the plumping pipe with correct trajectory is bewildering me. Spheres have chaotic ways about them.
@@libb3n YES, YES, and a third very loud YES!!! Martin ought to also get an Honorary Masters Degree in Music.- presuming he does not have one already (a real one that is).

Thank you so much for taking us on this journey :) Best wishes from Germany!
Absolutely. Those marbles coursing around the big bends, the staircase, the gears and timing. Oh my.
Except for the marbles being stuck in the de-magnetiser... those are annoying.
Sorry if you hadn't noticed and I ruined it for you.
@@JBergmansson It's by design... or at least Martin says so in the description. =)
@@JBergmansson I agree with the description here. The longer the marbles stay over the demagnetizer the less magnetic they remain, this is most certainly by design. Why else split the marble stream from 1 to 4? :)

That bounce off the kick drum to a small funnel/receiver is really impressive. I'll bet THAT took a lot of tuning to get the bounce just right.

Absolutely stunning.
Was that last sentence a reference to marvel's endgame title?? Because I remember someone from one of the movies saying that.

The machine is so different compared to what it looks like now.
I was shocked! The 2021 version is as different from this one as this is from the original marble machine. Even if some parts like the conveyor itself seem to have stood the test of time.
I was just thinking that. Had to stop and say goodbye to the beautiful old marble divider again.

There have been a few times that you could call something a beat by the marble machine. It is the first to be self-sustaining and not edited into a full beat, but I would not call it the first ever.

Fuck censoring.
Centuries ago, the admired da Vinci for his creations... Today I admire pioneers like Martin with their creations of mechanical art pieces
I feel that the machine is apart of the music. The sounds of it all. The cranking and the belts working. The marbles rolling around and being picked up. It just adds to the music itself. If you take that away. It feels like half a song. Not complete. The machine is the heart of the music. It is the heart of the art in motion.
It works? IT WORKS!!!! Such chills much wow. Congrats Marten.
The way you got the marbles to constantly bounce off the drum into the plumping pipe with correct trajectory is bewildering me. Spheres have chaotic ways about them.
