  • This video talks about the 5th yoga yama: aparigraha- the concept of having only what you need, non grasping of things and generosity, not collecting. Not having more than you need- has lead me to living in a Tiny House on Wheels: 8x24 feet :) We will talk about how to live by this concept and how to draw it into your yoga practice. www.Lauragyoga.com

I found this while decluttering, selling and donating everything from our 1 bedroom apartment in Miami (probably the most parigraha igniting city in the US) so embrace simplicity and nomadic living 🙏🏽

Hi Laura I have found your explanation of the principles of yamas enlightening. I especially like this on aparigraha. The Yama of non- grasping and the ability to let go. For me, letting go of material things is not as difficult as letting go of anger and resentment because I think I am giving a free ride to the people who have hurt me in the past.Forgiveness is a powerful thing and requires trust and believing that I am safe in letting that emotion go. I like your mantra “ I let go of what no longer serves me”. I am so glad that I found you in my yoga journey. You are a good teacher. With many thanks Laura, namaste.

It has so much more to apply in real life. From emotion to possessions, ideas, relationships. I am already minimized my belongings, relationships... “less is more”. Let go off the emotions, memories and plans are so liberating. Lately I noticed that I was putting a lot of my energy on relationship with people to make it as my people. It was part of my insecurity and want to possess. I let go off all the relationship as free and no more energy on maintenance of relationship. Now, I have much less obligation or desire to impress people, own less thing and doing less thing gotten much easier.

that is a great application of this concept! so often we think of the physical things, but relationships too! so important, thanks for sharing :)

I have to say that this video really talks to me. I am glad that I watched this on my way to my class when I was going to talk about Yamas and Niyamas for the first time in my just starting teaching journey. And I kept asking myself whether I was ready talking about all of these. I am not actually practice the Yamas and Niyamas all the time but I guess sharing this ethical system is also a way of raising my own awareness of them. It's a starting point to challenge myself and noticing where I still need practice on. Besides, now I am really curious about your tiny house~

through our study & teaching others about the Yamas & niyamas we grow ourselves and move closer to these guidelines- but we do not have to be perfect ourselves in order to convey this information to others. I think that helps students to understand that we are all working on different things in the practice, but the practice is never finished or perfected. What about letting go of expectations. And outcomes-non-attachment - it’s also a big part

yes letting go of anything that we may cling to...so very challenging when we look at that from different places in our life. It can also be supported by the niyama of Ishvara Pranidhana- surrender.
