This is THE song that will always get me in a running mood, no matter where I’m at. And it’s just straight up my CHILDHOOD. Just the opening cutscene leading up to the first stage is ingrained into my BRAIN.
"Escape from the CIty" is the song I always play when I travel in my country, it fits perfectly with those travels because I live in the city and my travels is usually to a village or town in the mountains.
The government cover-up in SA2 is first shown with Sonic breaking out of a helicopter, ripping off a wing plate to snowboard down the streets below...and City Escape is stage 1. That cemented Sonic as the coolest thing ever to me as an 8 year old and it has stuck ever since. Fan for ever. And this song helped.
The original is actually by Ted Poley and Tony Harnell, as well- they actually did We Can in Sonic Heroes together as well. Ted Poley on his own did Lazy Days...Livin' in Paradise (Big the Cat's theme in Sonic Adventure) and Race to Win for Sonic Rivals 2. Tony Harnell did It Doesn't Matter, Sonic's theme in Sonic Adventure, and then sang it again to new music for Sonic Adventure 2! (The song is called Escape from the City, and it plays in the level City Escape)
One quick thing to note - this song actually isn't a "Crush 40" song! It has the same _guitarist_ as Crush 40, Jun Senoue, because he was the sound director for Sonic Adventure 2, as well as the same bass player/drummer as Crush 40 used for their songs back then, *but* the _singer_ is different, and it's only "Crush 40" if it's *both* Jun and Johnny Gioeli. A lot of people always say Escape from the City is Crush 40, and it _almost_ is, but not the singer so it doesn't count! I believe Johnny Gioeli actually wrote the lyrics for this song though, he just didn't sing it, and the simple reason is Jun felt this song had a much lighter sound that a different singer would be good for! Or maybe he just wanted to save Johnny for the main theme song of the game, Live & Learn
I love all versions of City Escape; however, I love the Sonic Generations remix with the updated instruments and added bridge. The symphony version is something special! Excited for your reaction to that whenever you do that.
In the background at 7:54 is what also what we all remember from the City Escape zone: the gigantic G.U.N. military truck chasing sonic, mowing down parked cars down not-San-Francisco. lol
There is an order for the games, technically. As in there is a chronological timeline. But most of the time, it hardly matters aside from the occasional callbacks. Granted there is still character development and lore that is built up through certain games. For example if you just play Frontiers, you miss out on the stuff that really goes into Knuckles as a character and his motivations, which is established in Sonic 3 and further fleshed out in Sonic Adventure. I think the only character where it is really essential to follow chronologically is Shadow's character development. Adventure 2, Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 06 basically act as one encompassing character arc. And of course Generations won't hit as hard without playing all the major games before it since it is a title meant to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
God it's so hard to choose which version I like more. I appreciate both and love the extended bridge in the generations remix, and I ESPECIALLY love using the melody from 'It Doesn't Matter' at 7:31. At the same time though nothing hits quite like the original for me, as Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was my first proper Sonic game and my memories with that game are SUPER nostalgic.
I definitely like the original Escape From The City more than this remix, but there was another Generations remix made for Classic Sonic that is just top tier. This song is for the first level of Sonic Adventure 2, and without giving out too much information, this song is about Sonic literally escaping the city because the police are after him XD
Songs you'll want to react to Before watching the Symphony, since they're in there: Sonic Boom Sonic Heroes I Am...All of Me Endless Possibility Knight of the Wind Reach for the Stars Speak With Your Heart Green Light Ride You also might want to listen to It Doesn't Matter and Believe In Myself, but that's more forgiving since it's orchestral only during the Symphony, no singers.
Oh man, I would love to have seen your reaction to the other remix of the song done for Sonic Generations too. It was arranged by Cash Cash, of all bands. It just reuses the vocals from the originals, but they make it sound so good, putting their own spin on it, and even sneaking in a musical reference to a Genesis-era track! One of the best tracks in Generations, period.
Sorry for being 10 months late, but there actually is a third version, wich is also from sonic generations, its the same song but is a second remix, and it plays during the *2nd act* of the stage.
When it comes to sonic games, you can play whichever you want, some of them are really not recommended not gonna lie (06) but adventure 2 is definitely a must, and not only it will make you love more the music but also understand why the community loves all the characters, not only sonic and eggman.
I love the adventure 2 version a little bit more but I love how they snuck in the riff from it doesn’t matter into the remix. I also love the classic remix from sonic generations
aw you missed one of the remixes from generations! there is actually 2! one for classic sonic and one for modern sonic. im kinda sad you missed it! maybe... you'll check it out later? xD
The main sonic order you really need to focus on (for lore reasons) are Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, and (if you don't mind glitches and bugs to make it more funny) Sonic 06. Everything else can be played in any order you want
You can play them in any order you prefer, but it might be best to play them in order of release. Just so don't get confused by certain parts that were in previous games
If you’re going to play Sonic games, order matters /sometimes/. I would play Adventure, Adventure 2, and Heroes in that order and probably to start. Aside from the spin-off Shadow the Hedgehog game, order doesn’t matter much after that. Although those games (especially the adventure ones) will matter at least some for Sonic Frontiers. Not that the game wouldn’t still be good if you haven’t played those, but it would definitely be better. Also, as for the lyrics of Live and Learn, I do agree that they apply to Shadow. BUT, I would argue that they actually apply in some way to all of the characters, hence it being the main theme of the game and not just Shadow’s theme (which is “Throw it All Away”)
Hey, Zor its Dastardly! Long time no see fam I hope you're well I have a Sonic request for you, one I personally think you really enjoy. react to to Sonic Frontiers Anime opening by Thai McGrath, please! :)
Order for the Sonic Adventure games Sonic Adventure Sonic Adventure 2 Sonic Heroes Sonic 06 Shadow the Hedgehog Sonic Unleashed Sonic Colors Sonic: Rise of Lyric and the deadly six Sonic Generations Sonic Mania Sonic Forces Sonic Frontiers. I might've missed a few but those are the ones I can think of that are apart of the SA timeline
I think you combined 'Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric' and 'Sonic Lost World'; only Lost World is part of the timeline (although a character from Boom, Sticks the Badger, has now been mentioned in the main timeline). Also, you forgot the Advance trilogy and Rush/Rush Adventure.
This is THE song that will always get me in a running mood, no matter where I’m at. And it’s just straight up my CHILDHOOD. Just the opening cutscene leading up to the first stage is ingrained into my BRAIN.

No wonder I thought he had a different accent than the other crush 40 songs I've heard!
@@FyreofShadow Bro the two singers are like, *completely* different, not even just accent 😂 But, glad you noticed some difference at least

The live version of this is such a BOP!
Some clarification, the original was sung by Ted Poley and Tony Harnell, not Crush 40.

Songs you'll want to react to Before watching the Symphony, since they're in there:
Sonic Boom
Sonic Heroes

Speak With Your Heart
Green Light Ride
You also might want to listen to It Doesn't Matter and Believe In Myself, but that's more forgiving since it's orchestral only during the Symphony, no singers.
But idk I feel like it will be better seeing her blind reaction to every one of those songs. Through the symphony
City Escape my beloved

THE NOSTALGIA 😭😭😭 it makes me so happy

All right, I'm taking my obligation of a sonic heros fan to say that someone needs to react to what im made of.
Would be interested to see your reaction/thoughts on Classic remix as well as the unused trial version of city escape!
You should so City Escape - Sonic Generations Act 1 next time. Its such a banger remix to the origninal. The version you listened to was Act 2
I love the adventure 2 version a little bit more but I love how they snuck in the riff from it doesn’t matter into the remix. I also love the classic remix from sonic generations
Wait you posted this video and you're already at the Philippines? That was a super fast flight!
LOL. Yes, I can teleport :P
Jokes aside, this was scheduled before I left!
@@ZorDonofDoom Imagine actually being able to teleport like that!!!
There is two other versions of escape from the city there’s another one from generations the classic version and there is a funk remix.
song has new meaning in current year
God- _DAMN_ she can sing, holy.
When you do the Symphony, will you stream it with us ? Because I'd love to be there, and we can all tell you tidbits about the music !
I'm gonna have to plan it! I haven't set up live streaming for YT yet, so I'll have to do so before that happens :)
Am I the only one who prefers the Generations version? I now how iconic the Adventure 2 version is, but still…
Am I the only one that thinks classic Sonic escape from the city is the best?
True
yea the guitars go harder in generations
nothing beats the original for me
I think I’m the only person that prefers not only the Generations version but the Modern one at that.

Oh yea the symphony is 2 hours long
4:10 cute 🥰
For the most part you should be fine to play the games in any order you want, you'll miss stuff like callbacks and name drops but that's really it
I prefer the City Escape Classic version! (From Generations!)

When she gon listen to i am all of me from shadow the hedgehog
kickass name
I prefer the original but my favorite is the Cash Cash remix from generations too
im so basic that a like the remix more just because there's more slap bass
Could you react to What I'm Made Of from sonic heroes next it is the next game in the series
