    I know of a few small towns that put a "scarecrow" cop in an old patrol car and park it near the highway exit. It helps to reduce speeding. Those were the OG police robots.

    • @jimo2665
      @jimo2665 8 місяців тому +20

      That is because people think it's a real officer that could pull them over and give them a ticket. Everyone knows that robot isn't going to arrest anybody. It's just a security camera and they are everywhere.

    • @Lazy2332
      @Lazy2332 8 місяців тому

      @@jimo2665 and to add to that, they already have cameras everywhere, if they wanted a waist level view camera (to get faces of people wearing hoodies/masks) they could have installed hidden extremely high resolution waist level cameras in a few spots and it would have covered much more than the robot that likely kept getting stuck & needed a very strong WiFi & internet connection. They also could have put them at/in the turnstiles. These cameras would have been far smarter and better than the robot that lags because wireless always has a delay. The little robot idea has its place but this ain’t it, there’s too many obstacles and too little covered space. It also likely takes a human to control it so you’re still manning the area, just remotely. I bet someone is gullible and was sold this product by a really good salesperson. I’ve had to work with those people at the corporate level and they can be very persistent and persuasive and they like to lie so I make them show me and give me trials before I go any further & make a big deal about it. Interesting how the NYC govt operates.

Also there was a human officer there watching it instead of anything else going on in there, so it was probably the safest thing on the subway.😅

      Exactly someone's been paying attention I'm glad to see that, they're there to record because the majority of morons that live in these big cities that commit crimes talk freely to each other especially on the subway platforms thinking that other people can't overhear them because of the environmental noise You never know who's listening, That's why a true professional criminal would never talk openly and freely about any type of heist or boost they're about to put together, The majority is amateurs and NYPD knows this and they know there's lots of information to be gained by gathering Intel and the places where the majority of these crimes take place, So instead of protecting the people and increasing the peace to protect serve and to record the public without their knowledge, oh before I forget also to commit perjury when it supports the state's case😮

Real journalism may seem dry or even robotic, but that is because it restricts itself to remove all possible bias while most people want more emotional content to listen to whether true or not as long as it tracks with their own views (Fox News).

      I left in 1982. I still follow all the NYC news. I miss the city itself. The attitude. The energy. The pace. The crime was out of hand then.
      I lived in the sketchy but cheap East Village. Crime and nastiness were everywhere. Drugs.
      There was alot of original entertainment going on too.
      Music, odd art, theaters. Entertainment you wouldn't find anywhere else. The best food and anything else you wanted at anytime of the day or night. A true 24 hour city!
      However, you had to be alert at all times. People got pushed on the tracks, slashed, robbed. Like it is now.Only no cameras.The Guardian Angels rode the trains. Young, buff, tough. The cops hated them. I was always glad to see them.
      The city is a mess now.
      I moved to San Francisco before it was ruined. It was the place for bands in clubs at one time. Now it's trash.It's really sad.
      Now I'm a city girl by the beach. I love cities. They're all ruined now.
      I can't get decent Italian food where I live. I 🖤 NY. NYC gets in your blood.

      It's downtown. What can ya do?
      Everything here is overpriced like the rest of CA. Luckily, my husband's hunting buddy owns our 4 plex & our rent is low. Santa Cruz is like Berkeley, with less crime. Easygoing, quirky and the people are irritating. Most of my friends are up in the mountains here. That's where the cool folks live.
      And yes- Newsome ruined CA. I'm old now, so I'm staying put.
      I LOVE the daily fog. It keeps it under 80 in the summer & there's no snow. There's no calzones either. Unless you drive 40 miles one way to San Jose. Have a good one and stay safe.

    I'm a security guard that monitors about 50 cameras at the same time and hundreds of alarms at most of the places I've worked. Sometimes someone is doing something suspicious in a blind spot, and it'd be nice to have a robot move to the area. When I have to leave the desk, I can't monitor the vast majority of the complex anymore. When I get back, I have to review the camera footage to make sure nothing else happened somewhere else. Some places I also have to be checking people in and out of the building and make sure nobody sneaks in, so I can't even respond to suspicious activity unless it is actually an emergency, I just have to hope nothing bad is happening in that area until I see evidence that there is. And people get really mad when I miss something no matter how much stuff I was dealing with when it happened, or even when I say that none of the cameras were facing the direction of where the incident happened, or when I explain that I had to get up to do something else when the incident happened.

      @@redlionesv suspicious acting people almost always flee as soon as I step into their hiding area and I point to the cameras that are recording them. The cameras by themselves aren't near as big a deterence as the person getting confirmation that someone is actually monitoring them with those cameras.

      @@Electronzap I’m aware how cameras work . A person responding is the real deterrence .

      Personally The Cubix Robots (That Kids WB CGI Tv Show from 2001 - 2003) would have been more useful considering the robots can not only talk, but protect the user as well as use their strength and power to defeat any criminal, whether it was a human or a machine.

    Seagate Technology uses these trashcan robots to patrol their parking lots. They read license plate numbers to make sure no one is trying to sneak into their buildings and steal technology. It was funny to see one run off the edge of the sidewalk and get a wheel stuck in the grass.
