Adapted by Maximianno Cobra, from Shakespeare's "Timon of Athens", the film exposes the timeless challenge of social hypocrisy, disillusion and annihilation against the poetics of friendship, love, and beauty.
Love this play. The lines are pure wit. I wonder how they were delivered back in Wilde's day. ? It must have been uproar in the theatre. In those days I imagine such entertainment was a rare bit of light.
Loved it - even includes the Gribsby episode cut from the original performances and many text publications of the play, with one of my favourite lines in Chasuble's "we are far away from Wordsworth's plain living and high thinking!" when presented with the bill.
I own a theatre company and this is our first show next season. I had to find the Gribsby episode separately and plug it in. I love the Gribsby episode.
I'd like to buy this movie, just for me, not for posting it like you're doing now. Is that possible. I'll be more than happy if you say yes 😢. The thing is this is my favourite play by far and I'd like to have it for me. This version with these actors is what I love most.
Thanks a LOT for all these marvellous possibilities! Just after, head full of very soon pleasures, my eyes fall on my loathsome french president’s face. Woouf! What a fall...!

20:43 "Mr. Worthing, rise, sir, from this semi-recumbent posture. It is most indecorous."
What a play !!! Brillant.
This is one of the best, "The Importance of being Ernest" performances by far. Not even the newer versions can compare to this one.
Thank you for uploading. 🥰
You're very welcome! Cheers!
Thank you very much for making these videos available. I play them to my advanced English students.

They are all pretentious however, they seem to be completely unaware of their behaviour.
