- Barinasuchus is the largest know terrestrial predator of the cenozoic, this crocodilian ruled over south america through a large portion of the age of mammals, at a time when reptiles are often thought to have lost dominance.
evolve or die seems to be the name of the game of life here on earth
that is true, but crocodylomorphs show a unique ability to survive with minimal adaptation.
Its more like , dont become too specialized.
The Triassic strikes back
That looks pretty triassic.
Great video!
Thank you for this interesting overview. We thought it was nicelt researched and narrated.
Largest? Was it larger than the short faced bear, andrewsarchus, and purrusaurus?
it was almost twice as large as the shortfaced bear and andrewsarchus, and purrusaurus was larger but it was aquatic, a more accurate title wouldve been "largest terrestrial predator", given the megalodon also lived in the cenozoic
@@Sedimented.Studios longer? Yes, bigger? No, Barinasuchus and Arctotherium are around the same size both weighing at around 1500kg-1700kg. Upper specimen of Arctotherium weigh in at 2 tons. So your statement isn't true.
@@dom9300 if you're refering to Soibelzon et al. (2010? 2011?), their calculation was based solely on the humeri of ONE specimen, and they explicitly mention that it is a particularly big one. As far as I'm aware, the paper not only states that the calculation of 2 tons is not likely, it also calculates the weight of 1600-1700kg for this one indivdual and not as a species average.
@@saaya8964Yeah if they use a Particularly big specimen of the Bear the should do the same with the sebecid, it’s only fair. And crocodilians usually outgrow their average sizes more than bears do

Yes
What a load of Croc😏
Typical crocodylian W
its huge but not bigger than varnus priscus and carnufex carolinensis
The latter was extinct 231 million years ago but you’re correct about Megalania though

cool
Very informative, loved everything except the chimpanzees part 😂
It didn’t rule the mammals per say… most of the mammals were much bigger than it in humans it’s time and didn’t really dominate the mammals.
It likely ruled over the predators tho
😂 some nerdy haters in these comments. I love it.
But also shame on you nerds, let this man's crocodilian be a king, we all have our favorite prehistoric organisms.
For the algorithm gods
thank you blessed one
