A ball placed at a top a hill always wanted to go downwards direction as it has potential energy at top of hill and realises it and it rolls down as in motion uses kinetic energy. But what that the place where the Object (ball) assume that it is in the rest position is not at the rest it have to go more downward it is in a false vacuum, what will happen then..
what if we decided to make the center of the EARTH our Zero REFERENCE point?.. then figure out the PE for any mass above the earth and throughout the universe... that is, if we are truly Free to pick any reference point..
