The “invisible fire” is a dark joke on methanol fires in racing, specifically see Rick Mears. Although it’s obviously not the case in this scene, as NASCAR doesn’t use methanol fuel.
A video about him just popped up in my news feed and I watched it, I immediately realized that this scene was referencing for the first time and looked this up. Makes this joke a lot less funny now.

I mean if they're really and truly making a dark joke about that then they got some splaining to do. That was a horrific incident.

Things like this actually happen, since race cars usually use methane fuel. Methane in sunlight is almost unnoticeable. Because of this there has been incidents when people were on fire but no one new.

I mean… methanol burns nearly clear. Theres actually videos of this happening where the racers are actually on fire but it looks as if they are just running around flailing their arms for no reason.
