I bought a 2015 Lexus ES350 with 75k miles for $17,500 a couple of years back. Being the most reliable brand, I have no doubt it could last 300k miles if I maintain it regularly. This car will last me for 10 years or longer. No car payment. No car loan. Cheap insurance. Cheap repairs compared to new cars.
Don't waste your money spending $40,000 or more on a new car. Instead, buy a reliable used car like a 5 year old Toyota or Honda with under 100k miles and save the rest of the money for something more important like an emergency fund, funding for a side business, or investing in your education/career skills.
Used car market is even worse; have you not paid attention to it? Most reliable cars under 100k miles that has been released within the last 5 years is selling for almost new price.
