Brings me back to my childhood years. I was 5 yrs old during this show. It was always a family time watching this series. We never missed an episode. I love the 80s & 90s. 😞
My name is Tia’s and somebody made a comment and I agree with her name is Mary I agree with Mary 100% I wish this I wish this sure was still in production and could continue to be brought into production and just couldn’t could continue to be produced because it is such a great show I think it teaches so much I wish there was a way I could be a if somebody can start producing the show again
As a kid this show used to scare me very much. Everything felt so scary and sudden for no reason. As an adult I finally understood why: the show leaves out a lot of critical details to make it sound more scarier than it is.
Mike Silva was amazing. So few people get involved. He served in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He was a police officer. After this incident, some Karen complained about Silva's actions, saying he put people's lives in danger. The FAA cleared him, saying he didn't violate any rules.
You're right,Mr.Silva & his partner did what's necessary to save lives by stopping that maniac before it's too late,so rewards goes to the 2 gentlemen on board the helicopter
This show was one of my favorites along with America's Most Wanted, COPS, and Top Cops. I wish that these shows would be brought back to our local tv stations
I wish that I could have had the chance to meet and shake hands with Officer Keith Thornhill. He was a true and genuine hero. He risked being injured and possibly killed when he saved these guys. I hope that he recovered and was able to return to work. It is sad that the woman walking along the freeway caused a major disaster. At least she was taken to a psychiatric unit. Hopefully she got help. It's nice to know that the two guys in the car survived
Wow…love it…one of my favorite shows…destroys the bs myth of “defund the police” lies. thanks for posting…I love the olde commercials too: $4 pizzas and long distance phone calls….haaaa.
Defunding the police is not a myth. I have a cousin who is a police officer and one is a sheriff and they barely get paid enough for the job they do for the city to us safe.
@@shawnduncan5779 actually it was a Chevrolet Chevette late 70s model My oldest brother used to have one just exactly like that except it was like orange
The made for TV movie of this incident was far less dramatic than the footage seen in this episode. When the helicopter stopped the truck, it was filmed in an exterior wide shot instead of from inside the helicopter, looking out, as seen in this segment. Filming the stop this way put a damper on the intensity of what happened. Also, in the movie, Detective Wallis wasn't able to undo his seat belt and exit the car until the suspect was right on him. In reality Detective Wallis was already out of his vehicle when he was run over.
Watching this show as a kid is why my psycho self makes my family do emergency drills. We cover fire, break ins, needing CPR, and everything. My kids knew our address at age 2. I was terrified something would happen and they would panic. Don't wait to teach your kids. Put your address in a little song. They'll remember.
@@davidmenke7552 as an adult I LOVE unsolved mysteries but I agree as a kid the music gave me nightmares. at the end when they’d show the suspects face I always thought they were gonna show up in my town and I wouldn’t be able to sleep haha but they definitely picked a memorable music theme lol
I remember when this episode aired. Our family couldn't watch it because my younger sister fell in our pool at a year and a half. We had a gate and a fence but somebody forgot to latch the gate . After more than 10 minutes, they found my sister in our pool. She was clinically dead. They even canceled life flight. They brought her back in the ambulance and she had to be placed into a coma and she was also posturing. So much to the point that they actually had to cut some ligaments in her legs. They said that she would only startled to light or sound but that she wouldn't be able to laugh and comprehend and show emotion. She has severe cerebral palsy due to the accident . It's so easy to miss locking up a gate, especially when so much family is around. We had a huge family gathering that day. They said that she would not live past the age of five. She is going to celebrate her 38th birthday this year.
Nope, it was rescinded. Shatner said a lot of the families on this show back when are too embarrassed to recall their stories. Some even sued their own family members after the accidents
Thank you! I was hoping that information would be in the description or comments. I was a junior in high school. I remember some of the commercials!! The good old days....
18:48 The officer arrived just in the nick of time, by hitting the green truck before the killer aimed his gun at the helicopter but luckily the hostage was not harmed.
@Cedar1956 Did you happen to record the full episode for Season 2, Episode 8 (11/13/1990)? It contained the segments Daytona, 911 Smart Boy, and Digitalis Kid OD. I am curious to know if it also contained a segment about an Oregon dad trying to save his infant son from a house fire. I have the summer repeat of that episode, but the repeat version contains a reused fire segment from season 1 instead of the Oregon fire segment from the original broadcast.
What about the lady that needed help? No one talked about how she was doing and if she knew what happened or how she felt? She obviously needed help or she would have been a victim of being hit and possibly killed. Some would say that she caused it all to happen but I'm not sure she knew what happened but just leaving her out shows that they didn't care to let people know if she was okay?
@ 9:00 I don't understand what that detective was thinking when he got out of his car in front of that maniac. did he really think his body would stop the car, especially that fast and if cop cars couldn't even stop him.

I watched this as a kid, I'm 37, been a volunteer firefighter for 13 years, in 9 hrs I start my career as a paid one.
Congrats.
Congratulations 🎊😊🎈🥳
Watching this show makes me want to be a firefighter/EMT. And that I'LL BE!
Side note: Don Robertson was the VO for CBS here.

This show as well as the commercials bring back so much nostalgia. I remember this episode when I was a kid
I'm from Finland, but I love those old commersials. Life was so different back then and I miss it a lot.
So much more honest those days
These old commercials take me back !! It was a different world
Helicopter pilot deserves an award. Great job. Medal of bravery. Or something
Basically made a citizen's arrest.
Thank God for him & his partner with camcorder in that helicopter
This is awesome! Especially with the commercials! Total nostalgia! Can you post any more? Very grateful!
william shatner was great as the narrator of rescue 911 series
Mike Silva was amazing. So few people get involved. He served in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He was a police officer. After this incident, some Karen complained about Silva's actions, saying he put people's lives in danger. The FAA cleared him, saying he didn't violate any rules.
The crim showed he cared nothing about others so I don't blame Mike for saying the heck with it, I am going in!
And the perp got what he deserved. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
You're right,Mr.Silva & his partner did what's necessary to save lives by stopping that maniac before it's too late,so rewards goes to the 2 gentlemen on board the helicopter
Mr.Silva did not violate the rules at all,so just ignore the karens
I don't know what I liked more, the show or the old school commercials!
I love watching old commercials from the 80s and 90s.
This was a favorite for everyone in CO. Mike Silva was the local hero who did good for flying like this, and he flew in Iraq, became a war hero!
I used to watch this as a kid growing up in the 80s & 90s, love it!!!
This show is pure nostalgia, ever since I was a small child back in the early 90's

The notorious Pinto bursting into flames from being rear ended

I've never seen the last segment before. What an incredible officer. If he waited, even a few more seconds, those 2 men would have died that day
