I sat in a Q4 yesterday and the seats are comfortable, the rear passenger room epic but the front did have a lot of shiny plastic which rather pushes me towards an IX3. I also sat in a 'fat etron' and I agree - the quality difference was immediately apparent - the Q4 is not nearly as premium.
Of course! The Q4 _is_ cheaper, so it has to _feel_ cheaper, too. That's by design so that the Q4 doesn't cannibalize the fat e-tron. It's like the Q3 vs. the Q7 or the A3 vs. the A6. Basically the designers had the task to create a car that competes well with the iX3 and EQA/ EQB, but feels cheaper than the e-tron. That's not easy.

Fantastic review (again) - the most in depth one on UA-cam. I’ve been looking at a Q4, Enyaq and Ionic 5 and have to say I’ll be going for the Audi now. For me it’s actually cheaper as a Company car than the Enyaq, about the same price as an Ionic 5. However the ionic 5 in real life has a smaller trunk (I know the Banana Box test doesn’t show that!) - it’s just too shallow for what I need. All three are good cars though and it show how far EV’s have come.
The armrest can be pushed forwards on 9/10 Q4’s. Its an option, but most cars will have this. Also the buttons on the steeringwheel is haptic feedback. It is only one big button, but gives you haptic feedback depending on where you press it 👍🏻
Thank you for your videos Björn. You actually convinced me as a petrol head to go electric. So I traded in my fossil leasing to get a fat etron actually. I prefer it over the q4 because of the way more premium interior feel. I checked the q4 but for me it is just way too overpriced for that much cheap plastic inside.

Which Q4 e-tron configuration were you reviewing, Bjorn? I would like to order one with a sunroof, but according to the Audi UK website it is only available with the most expensive 'Technic' version which has lots of fancy stuff I don't need.
I really dislike the interior of the Q4 etron. It looks so stuffed, sooooo many shapes and materials. And so many nooks and crannies, it will be tough to keep clean. Quite a bummer, certainly regarding its price.
Actually I find the Enyaq interior looks much better and somehow looks much premium. But I like how this car looks from a the outsider, really beautiful car

The Audi doesn't seem much more expensive though. For the 170HP version there is less than 10% difference to ID4. Although the ID4 is available in a lower horsepower version than the Audi. So it's relatively little premium and maybe the Audi has a bit more included so price could be nearly identical. And base Audi is cheaper than Tesla Model 3 here in Denmark. That's probably not a coincidence.
It's interesting, it's not yet officially priced here but it's estimated to be 3-4k€ cheaper than SEAT Mii electric. For that I would personally stretch my budget and get the 2x more powerful Mii. When ID.1 comes it will likely be a killer choice for small EVs - but that takes many years.
Poor interior quality with rock hard plastic on the door panels in the back etc. Quirky armrests and a more renault-like feel. Not what i expected for a brand like Audi and in this class (more ok if it was a A3 or A1). I expected it to be more premium than enyaq and id4. Now there's no reason not to buy the enyaq instead.
What about q4 etron or EQA if we only talk quality in the interior? I know the EQA is smaller, but after the summer the EQB arrives, which is gonna be same tech as EQA😊

The interior is a strange mix of some quality components and a lot of cost cutting. It's certainly way behind the quality of Audi's ICE cars. It's just a shame that Mercedes only have the EQS on a proper electric platform so far, and even that's not out yet.

Bought the fat e-tron because of the air suspension, which the Q4 lacks. I haven't tested the Q4, but have never driven a car as comfy as the E-tron 55. It's a high priority for us with car sick kids. 😊 But no doubt the Q4 is a great deal.
@@cthabau I can't understand why the EQC has such a low ground clearance. It makes it much less flexible than the e-tron. I also find it too heavy for its size - there wasn't place enough for my child seats, the e-tron is far bigger. 😊

I agree. Q4 is not on same level as Etron 55 but the difference is larger between Q4 and Enyaq/ID4 I would say. Apart from a better layout, the plastic used in Q4 is of much better finnish than ID4/Enyaq. It’s also very aparent in the center consol/storage, door handles and buttons. Enyaqs wheel, buttons and door handle are awfully nasty plastic, and ID4 center console/storage plastic and piano black door handles feels and looks cheap which may be a dealbreaker to a few people - especially if you are used to audi, merca and bmw.
I think you missed the separate buttons for the climate control and the gear shifter, but we did see the buttons. I wonder if they will move the fat e-tron to the GT/Porsche platform/architecture.

My ID.4 is disappointing compared to this. This car is peak-MEB. Actual buttons where there should be buttons. A center console instead of the garbage tiny armrests in the ID. More than one 12v. A roof that opens. Climate control you can use as soon as you turn the car on, instead of waiting a minute for it to all boot up. Hope some of the SW features trickle down to the ID series, at least.
I don’t know what the hack wrong with these companies. Why they have have to give 2 small screens, make it one big like Tesla. In my 2009 ML there was a gear shifter knob on the steering column & it moved to Tesla. Now in new one shifter is on screen. In this the shifter is taking half the space which could have been used as storage. Sorry interior is same 10 year old crap.
because you are more flexible with screens in different positions compared to one big central one. Yes, you can move everything to one central one but this one then gets cluttered with sub menus (even for the wiper interval ffs). The focus on the Audi is on the virtual cockpit while driving, the other one is irrelevant and operating screen while driving is illegal in germany anyway.

The front central armrest does extend forward. You lift it up & pull it from the front forwards. just like the Audi Q5 & 7.

The hydraulic suspension is great. And this is the main reason why I chose the e-tron over Mercedes EQC.

Only 12 volt outlets are oldschool. In Ioniq 5 you also get 230 volt outlets.
Ioniq 5 230 volt output is optional except on top spec model in the UK.

Except digital cockpit this q4 is behind Enyaq in every single aspect.

because you are more flexible with screens in different positions compared to one big central one. Yes, you can move everything to one central one but this one then gets cluttered with sub menus (even for the wiper interval ffs). The focus on the Audi is on the virtual cockpit while driving, the other one is irrelevant and operating screen while driving is illegal in germany anyway.
Cars is a matter of taste,and anytime i prefer Q4 as it looks like a "car"😊.... Great review ..I only disagree that Audi is significantly more expensive than the "slibnings".
