It is definitely not luck, nor is it his great voice acting, if anything, it is his ability to make strong social connections within the industry as well as his ability to entertain his fans beyond the anime's he stars in, an example would be his radio show as well as his gaming show with Nakamura Yuuichi. He's also a generally likable guy, he has known to be a bit of a perv at times, yet he somehow manages to act like a complete gentlemen at the same time, making many female voice actors fans of him, or simply respect him heavily. Definitely a great voice actor and a great person.

Like, the whole "Perverted, socially awkward goofball" is a part of who he is, but for the most part, it's mostly PR at the level he plays it up in public because, well, not a whole lot of people want to talk about the grueling reality of having to do an eleven-hour (minimum) work day journey, 5 to 7 days a week with nary a break. One of the most vivid stories I recall is when I found out through mutual friends/acquaintances that HanaKana and Kensho Ono started hitting-it-off/dating about 6 or so years ago, since back then it was still sort of a thing they kept private and I recall both a recording engineer/composer who is my senior and Takahiro Sakurai talking about it like "Well, it's nice that it happened", and when I asked "Oh, how did that happen?", they both basically summed it up as "Sugita is a big softie idiot and played celestina to those two". Apparently OnoD, Hosoya and Miyano also helped along because I remember Hosoya being really proud of how they started going out and OnoD totally doing the "fuck yeah! kanpai!" thing with them. Funny fellows, them voice actors. :3
I can't imagine seiyuu doing other jobs, because to become one it's really hard. I'm pretty sure there are lot of people failed to become seiyuu than succeed to become one Gotta respect people that going down their own path instead of relying on parent's property/fortune Also I like how Sugita called Kanemoto Hisako with Ika-chan xD Maybe this is back then when her biggest known role is Ika Musume?
yeah, most of them have multiple gigs like radio show, commentator, and singer to keep them afloat. though those with unique voice and great publicity tends to stay longer in the industry due to having roles pretty much reserved for them.
The thing is,you can't feed yourself by only doing seiiyu job because the salary is actually low.So many seiiyu either works at shops or becoming singer/idol.
It's also pretty surprising, considering that Hisako Kanemoto was one of the two individuals caught up in the whole prank scandal (the other was Takuma Terashima). I guess this means Sugitan has reconciled with Kanemoto, although whether he has done the same with Terashima is unknown.
I love how HiroC told him something like that bcoz I remembered watching a documentary of him talking about the hardships of being a seiyuu, clinging to and treasuring his voice
