  • This is the ninety first in a series of videos I’m going to produce to document the building of my Trumpeter 1:200 model Titanic. In this episode I do all the little remaining jobs needed to complete the model.
If you want to see more regular updates have a look at my Instagram page (same name as the channel). I post photos as I'm building there so you don't have to wait for the videos to be edited!

Mate it's absolutely unreal that you've managed to build such an accurate and ultra detailed scaled down Titanic. In my opinion this is the best knowledge and attention to detail I've seen in 25 years.

3 years worth the wait. I remember watching the start of this project and I'll say this was an amazing set of videos to follow. Good work on you model. I hope one day may come when I can acquire this model myself and use your videos to make it as accurate as your build.

10:50 There's speculation that this bar was an awning for canvas which could be fitted over the aft end of the promenade, but I've never seen a photo of it used for that. On Olympic this part of the promenade was very popular with passengers and that bar was most commonly used a swing set for children, usually have 2 swings set up at a time.

And it only took you 3 years to do it. Though who am I to talk: it took me about as long, if not longer to get my 1/350 Minicraft model built, and I had my mom helping me. 😅
Wow: hard to believe she's finally done. I was starting to think you'd never be finished. This is easily one of the most detailed models of this beautiful ship that I have ever seen: if I were to compare your work to others on the Internet, it's Top 3 with Jason King's massive 1/100 and 1/76 scale models, as well as the 1/350 scale kit by Art Braunschweiger.
Marvelous job: I'll have to go back and watch the whole process start to finish eventually, because there was no chance I was doing it originally. Can't wait for the maiden voyage! :D

Hi Robbie, Great job, she is a credit to you! The bar going to the aft mast was actually called a rafter and was intended to carry an awning for the passengers. It was also fitted with some small eye bolts on the bottom edge to allow a swing to be fitted for the passengers recreation. Wow! The fire hydrants all look about right Rob according to the plumbing plan that I have. They were actually called weather deck bibbs! The Pontos PE does actually provide for these but to be honest they do not look very good as they are basically very flat! Your creations look fine.
I have made some progress so I will email you soon! Regards JH 😉⚓

      Afternoon John,
Thank you! I had a feeling the hydrants were included in Pontos because I remembered seeing them, but couldn’t find them in any of the sets I currently own. So makes sense!
Thanks for the clarification on the rafter, that is a lovely little detail, and would be a nice addition to an Olympic model.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon,
      Robbie

Yeah I think so too, thats what I always heard it was for. I don’t see why wires would have to be run through in the air like that, it‘d be easier to put it under the deck than having to build a box around them and hanging them in mid-air.

What I liked about the trumpeter kit is that there is so much room for manoeuvre, you can build it as is, or use additional sets, it’s a very versatile kit.

Might be wise to have a fishing line or string tied to the back of it when going over deeper parts of the water you test it in. You never know when a hole might become present or if water finds a way to get in. If water gets in and damages any electrical components, she could be dead in the water and sinking too far away from where you could reach her. A fishing string would allow you to reel her in to attempt a salvage

I’ll make other models in due course! Want to get all the work on this fully done first though. I fancy a RMS Mauritania but there are no current good size kits. There’s an old one from the 80s but it’s quite spenny! I did a video on some other ideas too

The rod to the after mast would have been used to drape a tarp.

After some time, I suppose you will start adding rust, runs on the keel? 😅 to add an extra layer of realism.
