M51 Whirlpool Galaxy - live through my telescope .Why It’s such a great target.

- I for no real reason shy away from targets that seem to be imaged by most. Bit silly really as now I have finally imaged the Whirlpool properly and can see why it is so popular and glad I joined the masses.
It was while testing my OAG that I recently installed onto my RC8 that I started imaging M51 and now have a video and 12hours of integration time and one of the best images I have produced so far.
This was taken with my Altair RC8 scope at 1625mm
The camera was the ZWO 294mm pro at -10C and Bin 2x2
Image is combined from lights of L Ha R G B
The Mount is an EQ6 R Pro
Processed in Astropixel processor for stacking
Pixingsight and photoshop for post processing

ProLogik balance meter and tuning tool
www.prologik-astro.com/
The meter is of a high quality and works really well. Not only is it great for helping to find perfect balance in stiff mounts but it is a fantastic aid to fine tuning your mount for the best guiding. It will assist you in adjusting your worm drive/gear mesh to the optimum setting and giving you great smooth tracking and excellent guiding numbers. - Розваги
Nice capture mate! Well done :)
Glad to see OAG is working well for you, and crazy to see how good just one 90s sub looked!
Keep it up mate 👍
Thank you Luke. It was actually not as hard as I thought it might be. Very happy with the results. The subs always surprise me as the scope is F8 but the mono 294 sensor is brilliant.
just finished M51 earlier this week - your composition with H-a really made my jaw drop. Excellent image for bortle 6! Keep the great content coming
Thank you for the great comment. There is a nice amount of Ha in that target
excellent video as always. My guiding improved after watching you and Joe tweak PHD2, now you show us the next level. Well done.
Thank you Duncan. Thats great that we were able to help improve your guiding. For long FL i think OAG is the best way to go. With my RC I’d need at least 400mm guidescope and thats a lot of weight to add (suggest guidescope min of 1/4 of your main scope FL)
Amazing Image Glenn. Great video too keep them coming please
Thank you Derek, really appreciate that, so kind
Stunning details and color in this, you clearly nailed the acquisition phase with quality data. If I can get my EQ6-R Pro down in the 0.5 range I'll be well pleased indeed. Nice work. I finally have a period of clear skies.... and a big moon during LRGB season. Lovely hobby :)
Hi and thank you for your comments. It is a great hobby, i love it.
Great capture Glenn, it’s amazing what adding some Ha does to galaxy images!
Yes it adds a lot to it
This is fantastic, beautiful final image
Thank you so much
What a fantastic looking result Glenn gotta be happy with that. Laughed at the tracking comment I would totally have left it on Lunar.🤣
Thank you Ollie, yes really happy. Through the wonders of editing you missed about 20-30mins of me swearing and losing my mind trying to work out why my tracking was all over the place lol
Looks Beautiful!! Awesome Details, Keep it up!!👍
Thank you. I will certainly try
Great video and results
Thank you
Very nice 👍
Thank you
Absolutely awesome.
Thank you Mart, really appreciate you watching and commenting
really nice video, well done
Thank you👍
Great Capture!!
Thank you Luke
Thanks for sharing. Sending Positive Vibes from The Bronx NY
Thx Christian
Great details with the RC 8 inch telescope. Messier 51 was my first galaxy that i captured with a telescope 2 years ago.
Thank you. I was very happy with this image
@@Astrobloke Youa re welcome! Nice videos! I have a Ritchey-Chretien 6 inch telescope, but it seems i have some collimation problems after 5 months of not using it, i tested this week an 127/1500 maksutov for astrophotography
Another well produced video Glenn plus a stunning image! Actually considering an RC8 and probably going for the carbon tube model due to its thermal stability when it comes to keeping good focus. Do not know though whether extra cost is justified. Well done as usual !
Thank you so much Ray. I did fancy the carbon myself but this came up for sale at a good price so I snapped it up. The carbon is a good bit lighter too so another good reason for opting for that option.
Smashed it.
Thanks 👍
Amazing final image dude
Thanks Robert. I was very pleased with this
@@Astrobloke seriously impressive. It’s taught me I need to put a lot more hours into my data acquisition!
Great image, high quality production, and nice balance to the content (and you aren't trying to flog stuff). Mind you, call bortle 6 light polluted, I would call that inky blackness compared to 8/9! ;-)
Thank you Phil. Yes compared to Bortle 8/9 I am very lucky. I can drive out to Bortle 4 skies just an hour away and the difference is amazing.
Wow great job, bloke.
Thank you 👍
@@Astrobloke well done bloke
@@Astrospacegeek thanks Leon
Wow your one clever man for sure✌️
Thank you very much.
There is so much out there. It's too hard to pick a target! I forget to switch back to side rail from lunar sometimes too, oops! Newbie here using OSC but digging the video and thanks for sharing!
Hi and thanks for your comments. We all make those easy mistakes but keeps it challenging at least lol
@@Astrobloke and fun, but I think I learned my lesson. I had 20 minutes the other night trying to figure out what was up. :reminder to self, 😆
Nice shot! Glad you got the OAG worked out. I'm getting similar performance with the zwo OAG on my Edge 8. I shot M51 last year.. trying hard not to shoot it again this year :) Just wrapped up shooting M101 so I'm looking for my next target.. thinking M106, although I just shot that one with a widefield setup so I'm not to sure. I've shot mostly well known targets but have been thinking about mixing in some lesser known targets to keep things interesting.
Have you looked at M64. Thats an interesting target.
@@Astrobloke Ah.. yea.. that is pretty cool. May need to add it to my list... after the moon goes away!
Awesome picture was this hard to focus on?
Not at all Geoff but that’s down to the software that controls the camera and autofocusing for me.
