  • Part # 58789 - this is just a quick look out of the box, not specs/etc.
    If you've always wanted a pair of stands with circular pads that might be a little more gentle to whatever you're supporting, Daytona has a new option for you. At the time of their launch, they're $89.99 for two, and an in-store only item. This is just a quick look - I'll do a head-to-head with all the specs and measurements soon. You can get full info on these at the Harbor Freight site: www.harborfrei...

    I just picked up a set. Excellent quality: the welds are very nice and I assume have good penetration, the pin is a nice tight fit with no slop, the powder coating ? is very good. The rubber pad came off when I lifted the jack stand because they used a type of hard epoxy to hold it on. No big deal, the glue peeled off and the pad sits nicely on top of the metal pad.

      I'm not a welder, but it seems like that kind of tidiness in a weld makes it more-likely it's a successful one.

    Do you think they’re likely made in the same factory as the Escos? Comparing photos online they appear to be essentially identical, other than the finish and the pin’s leash/chain.

      Hard to say, but there are a few small differences beyond paint (post design, pad is attached for the Daytonas, etc).

    Decided to drop the extra $$ on the Esco shorties as Esco carries the reputation. That and a jack as secondary failpoint are the only things between me and a few thousand pounds of death. Brand name/price doesn't always equal better, but it seems like the Escos are the gold standard outside of US Jacks which are considerably more and way overkill for my little Miata lol.
    About a $100 difference between the HF and the Esco shorties for a set of 4... I would love to save the money, especially if the quality is equal. Any updated thoughts on the two?

      I need to do a follow-up for sure. The answer is I'm 100% confident in the Daytona set. Honestly, they're much more cleanly-made and overall fit-and-finish is better.

      I am trying to buy esco shorty jack stands and the quality is horrible. Bad welds, pin not fitting through holes. I hope harbor freight makes a shorty version. They are better quality.

      @@Jynx0406 My guess is you'll be pleased with the similar-design Daytona stands. Have used them a fair bit since filming that vid, and they've been flawless.

    Just got a set of the ESCO's. How do I insert the rubber pad fully? Pad doesn't want to go in all of the way and there's no instruction. Maybe just set the car frame on it and it will force it in. Would like to get them inserted before that, though.

      I'd put the weight on it and see how it goes. It shouldn't hurt the pad.

    Went to the store to look for the 6ton Daytona since I didn’t like the 3ton not having that extra plate welded at the bottom and was out of stock. Found this new style instock and decided to grab them. A little pricey at $99 but with 25% off I think I might pick up another pair when they go back on sale since i grab the last one.

    I missed it if you did mention it but, how much are they? I could swear when I first saw the price a few weeks ago online they were $79.99 and there's a 15% ITC sale going on right now but they are up to $99.99 now.

      I saw that they were $99 the other day and was surprised. They were $89.99 when they launched.

      I haven't seen anything, but they're firmly attached. Having used them a fair bit since I got them they don't show any signs of coming off. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    You said for vans these wouldn’t be safe?! These 3 ton or really 1.5 ton jack stand has 3000 lbs of support so 2 has 6000lbs of support and at any given time ur not putting load or distributing weight it would just be on a jack itself which would accommodate for the 1000lb difference (4000-3000 or 2 tons minus 1.5 tons) right?

      @@c4sare4kiddos I think the best way to say it is that my wife's Odyssey weighs about the same as the Camero, and I've been comfortable with that. Keeping the jack in place and tucking the wheels under the car are also things I always do.

    They should have drilled the second hole on the body 90 degrees to the first hole so not to have both holes "stacked" on top of each other. Seems like it would be stronger not having a hole above a hole.

      I'm not an engineer, so I can't really speak to the design overall. It's the same as pretty much all the post-style stands I've seen (Esco, etc.)

    Can't do Harbor freight 90 warranties.

    • @themessygarage
      @themessygarage  3 місяці тому

      Then add the longer warranty. Their logic is that if something is wrong from the factory it will show up quickly, and they can save money by only covering that by default. If you want longer, their warranty isn't crazy money.

    How tall are they fully extended?

    • @themessygarage
      @themessygarage  2 роки тому +1

      HF/Daytona claims 21-13/16", and I measured them unweighted to 21 15/16". My methodology there might be the difference, or when weighted the saddle compresses/etc. I put one of my Esco stands next to it at full height, and the Dayton is very slightly taller. (Esco claims 21.5", and measured unweighted closer to 21.75.).
      I would say that both stands felt a bit "sloppy" at max height. I'm sure they're fine, but I'm very twitchy about stands. At slightly below 20" they both felt rock-solid.
