I feel like the focus on Splatoon 1 was the absurdity, the classic Japanese thing of 'just own this bizarre world' and that was the theme. In 2 and 3, I think they doubled down on the post apocalypse earth thing and actually refined the theme of Splatoon into less of a 'look how weird this all is' and into more of a 'this world is plausible, this is how' and kinda showing us more details about it.
Splatoon 1 and 2 were really rushed, so it's really commendable how much lore they built up. Splatoon 1's Inkopolis has those statues of an Inari and tanuki, which is because Inkopolis was designed when rabbits were still the main characters, and those animals the shopkeepers!

Maybe a Spider Crab?
My favourite shopkeeps in order of games were Jelonzo, Bisk and a tie between Mr Coco and Gnarly Eddy not based off of theme, just the shopkeep in general

Sheldon’s Splatoon 2 theme is my favourite. Weird that the weakest game in the series had the best Sheldon theme. Also i haven’t heard the Splatoon 1 themes in a million years omg

Okay so... Annie's a Sea Anemone, Crusty Sean is a Tempura Shrimp (not the species but i forgot which species they use for tempura...), Flow's a Nudibranch in some form, and Bisk... idk. Then Harmony... is also a Sea Anemone? And eddy is a Nautilus. Mr. Coco is a Coconut Crab, obviously. And Sheldon is a horseshoe crab and the Jels are all Jellyfish.
Any idea what Bisk is? Maybe a Spider Crab?

My favourite shopkeeps in order of games were Jelonzo, Bisk and a tie between Mr Coco and Gnarly Eddy

I love bisk and harmony's theme but all of them are so good
i love that each shopkeeper follows a theme with the previous ones! everyone's pointed it out by now, but i hope that future games keep the general store, with the shopkeeper theme being a character from the in-game bands. i think it would be really cool :00
Weapon store: Same person and has always been there since splatoon 1
Shirt store: have things related to their jellyfish family
Shoes store: The shrimp guy was seen doing fun things with his life, for example (selling food selling shoes and doing some weird thing on splatnet 3)
Their all things that can be fried and stuff
Hat store: *New owner every game with no character development*

Crustacean's have the most legs which gives them the best opportunity to show off the most brands at a time.
I always figured the crustaceans were more focused on shoes since they have so many pairs of extra legs. I’d imagine they probably need a lot of shoes for ‘em 😅

I love how sheldons theme just keeps getting better. My favourite one in sp1 was definitely the shoe one (crusty sean) but now Sheldon has got me in sp3 🙂.
