Meditative but heaving with energy, Lanterns finds a peculiar congruency between futuristic soul and ancient sentiment. Driving orchestral pop (Lost It To Trying, No Crimes) is placed alongside haunting minimalism (Pyre, Enough Of Our Machines), often starkly juxtaposing densely layered arrangements with Lott's intimate voice.

But i just wished more comments talked about the meaning of the lyrics (i mean, not to downplay the nostalgia) since i really recognized myself with them and that's the reason i liked the song (although i do like some others from Son Lux). But i do think some choices we make to "diminish" suffering make us more miserable (although the song doesn't really [i think] states whether this choices are "good" or "bad")

The first time I heard this was at a Lorde concert, and when the sax came in for the first time, it was probably the first time a piece of music had truly shocked me since I had first listened to George Crumb's Ancient Voices of Children. I felt it viscerally. And now that I'm feeling some heartbreak, especially in the middle of this pandemic, when I'm more alone than ever, the lyrics hit harder than they ever have. Bravo.
