I still am amazed at your incredible talent and skill. Very well thought out, very well laid out, precise execution. My father was a master craftsman and I used to sit for hours and watch him work. Now this was in the 50’s and he used very similar techniques as you. Same tools and similar woods and templates. I’m in my 70’s now and watching you brings back some memories but at the same time I see differences that make your work unique. Never stop doing what you do.
There is nothing more beautiful than a womans hands. When their owner is skilled and produces a video this relaxing, with astounding method and training in the art of veneer and its application - icing on the cake! Loved it. Now I have the itch to order several species of quality veneer for simular projects. Thank You. //ji
You did a fabulous job Daisy! Enjoyed every minute of it. It's been so long since I've played backgammon I think I've forgotten how. This made me want tot learn again.
You did that classic UA-cam woodworking video thing where you show the painstaking effort of making a single highly detailed piece, making the viewer think it's amazing you did that one thing. Then, suddenly it's sitting next to a bunch of them you've already made. ASMR mic drop. Awesome work!
Just came across your channel and... I LOVE IT! I am a guitarist and wood worker as well, so I know what goes into both sides of your work. I know enough to say that you are doing it right! You should be proud of your work!
Somebody has got a sponsor! So glad it's not bloody Festool! Well done daisy, having seen how stunning your guitars are, it's not surprising you can make a backgammon board!
Ok first things first, Wow your Nails look Amazing! Great video love watching wood working by a very skilled wood artists, awesome as always Daisy. All the best, cheers from Canada
Fantastic work there Daisy. Pleasure to watch. I've never tried anything like that. Also it's making my teacher brain wonder if there's a way I can teach my students that. Also I've never used a plane on the side like that. Finally I like the scraper you used for a bit there. Underrated tool and a technique that has fallen by the way in schools here.
From what I've gleaned from Daisy's and other luthiers' channels, that technique of using the plane on its side is great for jointing. The thick piece of wood is called a "shooting board", you hold the piece you're planing against that and run the plan along it on its side. I think Daisy made her own shooting board.
Simply stunning work Daisy. Incorporating marquetry into a guitar tone board would look amazing. Is it just me or is the sound of a plane the most ear pleasing sound in the whole world. ❤😊
Nice. I've never made one. If the veneer is thick enough, scraping rather than sanding can give a super smooth finish. For miters, hand cutting works. (See Paul Sellers for how to make a "Poor Man's" mitre box, or a separate video of his on making a larger mitre box.) Anyway, just a couple of thoughts, but that board looks good.
Looks amazing. I have a small table saw with a siding feed table and mitres still suck sometimes. ;) If you do not see the inside like with speaker boxes you can set the angle a bit higher than 45° so the edges will look neater on the outside.
Well that turned out rather well. Thinking out loud, wondering if hide glue (along with Domino's, biscuits, dowels or splines) would have been a "better" choice on the box frame - easier to clean up. Says the guy that has used hide glue perhaps once...... :^) For morticing the hinges, a small router plane (Lie Nielsen makes one) would be the cat's meow, highly recommended. Black finger nail polish was a nice touch. :)
Daisy. Do you sharpen your scalpel blades? Swann Morton blades straight out of the foil pack are really pretty blunt. They are designed for hacking flesh, not fine work. I always sharpen mine on fine wet-or-dry paper. It makes a huge difference. OK. I got to the end - that is a beautiful Backgammon board. I would be proud to own it.
While i got into woodworking for guitars, i have considered building some chopping boards and board games, especially for certain card games, since premium wooden boards for those dont really exist.
I would like to make a chess board & i just learned a better way than i had planned, thank you for posting this build. ps walnut burl is my new fanorite.
I was wondering. Would it not be far easier to switch hands cutting the triangle veneer sections downward toward you with your left hand rather than to the point?
I know you weren’t aiming for funny (well I assume) But the part where you start to peel tape then jump cut to the “f*ck it, I’ll just scrape” moment did make me chuckle 😅
Lovely and inspiring. Makes me think about making one of these for a gift. BUT: How do you keep your nails looking so good? I always feel like it's a choice between working in the shop and having decent nails.
That's a lovely backgammon board and a serious piece of burl veneer, veneering is something I need to play with more! What tape were you using to keep the veneer in place?
I really enjoyed watching your video. Beautiful work. You have many skills that I don't lol! I made a backgammon board with no veneer but can still relate to some of your lessons learned. I love the way you use callouts in your video to tag items. I need to do that. What software do you use to edit?
How did you not chip a nail doing this project, glad to see your finger healed up after the tape dispenser attack, opps the high gloss black polish didn’t make it thru the build sorry it looked great while it lasted, PS LOVE YOUR CHANNEL !!!!
As ever I really enjoyed watching you craft something from nothing. I imagine you're fully aware of this and have a reason not to use them, but in case you aren't, you can get rulers with finger guards for when you're scoring with scalpels. Mine has saved my fingers a few times. And just because I get anxiety from bandsaw footage in your other videos, push sticks/blocks are also good PPE.
Quick question: If I wanted to get into a business like this would I need to invest in loaded pallet wrapped in plastic and placed on tarmac, or would some sort of spray booth suffice? I must admit that I haven't the faintest little clue about how to play backgammon, but you've made a good looking thing for sure.
Beautiful board. Very nice, clean mitre joints. I should make one of those for my daughters. Was that StewMac Nitro you used though? That's expensive stuff for a board game! haha
Hahahaha no it’s actually from when I was bending padauk sides and as I was spraying and bending them by hand the water dripped from the wood onto the mat and dried. Paduak is super red so the water picked up some colour! It does look a lot like blood though!!
Excellent build the only thing i would have done differently is not use resin to glue down the veneer it only needs a decent wood glue or better still hide glue resin is so messy and needs a lot of cleaning
Absolutely love that burl veneer!

Great to hear! Thanks for the kind words!:)
Lovely job Daisy, that walnut burl looks amazing.
Beautiful & exacting wood working Daisy! 👍👍
Beautiful! That would be a wonderful gift for someone.
Nice departure from the usual videos! Beautiful board, thanks for the video Daisy - Cheers from Canada
Meticulous…superb…beautiful! You’re the best!🤩🤗
Attention for a detail, slow and precise. Daisy your work brings a tempest in my heart.
speechless. i can see myself messing up in any of hubdreds of critical steps. you’re so confident in your skills and u keep your tools sharp
That was so wonderful to watch and such a beautiful finished backgammon board !
Very nice! Thx for sharing.

Awesome work!
Sweet backgammon board, you're quite the craftsperson. It looks lite your hand and power tool
arsenal has grown substantially!
Absolutely gorgeous! Incredible focus on the small details.
Man, that is such a fun game.
Great work.

Excellent craftsmanship!
As always a gorgeous job! Thanks for sharing this!
Very nice backgammon board. Beautiful work as always.

You have a wonderful talent, cheers!
Beautiful.
Spectacular! Very brave of you to use the random orbit sander on that veneer! And awesome collection of clamps (including the the go-bar deck )!
Wow, impressive
Absolutely amazing!
beautiful, I love to play backgammon
Wow, that looks amazing! Great work Daisy! 🙂
Beautiful work!
Beautiful, I love your work
Too pretty to play on!
Lovely!
You make it look very easy
Nice build, your level of detail is amazing. My veneering skills are not so great. My Backgammon board would look like a Dali painting.
Great work miss Daisy!
Very nice Daisy
Brilliant as always
That is Beautiful! Thanks!......{ nice nails)

This was cathartic af. You're talented! This was great!
SO crafty and very Cool nails perfect for da season of da witch 🌛🌕🌜
Great job!, terrific nails.
U A beautiful work!😊👏👏👏🌹
1:06 I am very impressed!!!
I'd overshoot!
if my comment wasn't clear enough! Slicing this exactly is almost witchcraft.
Very nice work!
Great skills. 👍

Nice work.....
The talky stuff is good but that was really special. More of this sort of thing please!
Very cool 😎
Thanks for sharing, much appreciated.
, ;)
Stunning piece, Daisy! Really amazing work! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I am looking forward to Tempest Games becoming a division of Tempest Guitars. Nice work.
I’ve always wanted to make a backgammon board, but couldn’t figure out how to do it. Wonderful work.
Nice build attention for a detail, slow and precise.
However, is a little nicer when you mix the sound of the craft with your speech.
Well that turned out rather well. Thinking out loud, wondering if hide glue (along with Domino's, biscuits, dowels or splines) would have been a "better" choice on the box frame - easier to clean up. Looks sick! Loose shirt next to a circ saw, doesnt look so sick!
I bet it will sound great! Beautiful work as always.
Neat job! I wonder if this is another commercial venture to compliment musical instrument building?
While i got into woodworking for guitars, i have considered building some chopping boards and board games, especially for certain card games, since premium wooden boards for those dont really exist.
Great vid as always. I could never make a silent video like this, because I mutter to myself constantly like a crazy person when I’m wood working 😂
I would like to make a chess board & i just learned a better way than i had planned, thank you for posting this build. ps walnut burl is my new fanorite.
Would you repeat the process exactly if you made another one? And those Padauk shavings…just wow.
For a split second i was super interested in the hightec spray booth. Then I was like…. Oh 😐 lol
Super-Cool 🤘🏼

Would it be possible to get the plans to this board?
Even after reading that you we're making a backgammon board during the video I still thought what a weird looking gitar.
Beautiful! Oh and the Backgammon Board is really nice too 🥰
Lovely work. How many hours did you have in that?
I really enjoyed watching your video. Beautiful work. You have many skills that I don't lol! I made a backgammon board with no veneer but can still relate to some of your lessons learned. Ooo. Nice nails! :)
This was on my list for a project. Nice to see how you went about it. I have one question. How thick was the veneer you used?
That's a strange looking guitar 😮
👏👏👏👏👏
Masterpiece. But i would prefer for the backs to be thiner; we kinda like noisy boards here, in Greece. 😊
Where can we order ours?! 👏👏👏😎👍💖🤪
Very cool but prefer the vids with more of you in them☺
Great vid and piece!!! Only i think the sander was kinda too loud!
Ok
Now my family and I need to learn how to play
my favorite part of the ASMR was when the circular saw came on
Nice work! Curious as to your choice of using 2 part epoxy as the glue instead of white/wood glue? Does epoxy work better on veneers?
The epoxy is clear, like the spray finish, so it won't discolour the surface if it bleeds through to the top of the veneer.
@@mark.guitar Ah, gotcha - thanks Mark!

It's Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear Lacquer. It's ok but can be a bit brittle and chips easily.
Is that.. is that blood on your cutting mat ? Awesome vid btw
