    That is some powerful cooling, I see you used a Peltier module and a huge heatsink with two fans. However, it's a bit too powerful. Because it reaches a temperature of -2.5 degrees Celsius, your drinks and snacks will freeze. You need to use something to regulate the cooling, like a microcontroller that switches the module off after the desired temperature is achieved and then back on when the temperature rises too high. Worth noting is that the hysteresis needs to be high enough to not make a oscillator. A good idea is to buy a thermostat kit or a pre-made thermostat that can handle low temperatures well. This way no microcontroller ia needed.

      Depends on where the temp probe is.
      If it is stuck to a metal sheet, it will show how cold that sheet is, but not the air around the objects in the fridge.

      @opengreenenergy  7 років тому +2

      +IIGrayfoxII You are right.The air temp is slightly hotter than the plate.

      you can control the temperature by increasing the volume to store things a good temperature for food for a college guy could be 3-6°C

    Wonderfully made. Nice engineering. Before anyone gets too excited about using Peltier modules for cooling do some research on not only their capacity for cooling, but also their efficiency levels... You will be disappointed. Regarding 'keeping' things cool these little refrigerators work ok (still high power consumption for the cooling), for bringing room temperature cans of soda down to cool temperatures, ahh, not so practical. I don't consider these products to measure up to anything near what I would call 'green'.. They consume a lot of energy and provide small cooling benefit. Again, don't believe me, do your own research.

    • @randomtinker1843
      @randomtinker1843 7 років тому +1

      Indeed! Therefore the huge heat sink on the hot side. Not "green" really, but fascinating nevertheless! Big bonus is the fact that it can run on 12v power, but a battery of that size probably won't last a very long time...

    • @fredflintstone8048
      @fredflintstone8048 7 років тому +2

      So true, it seems that there's an idea floating around that 'portable' (not plugged in) is somehow 'green'..
      One thing has nothing to do with the other. Eventually the battery will have to be recharged, or replaced. There are energy losses in charging a battery aside from what was used. There's no free power. A better definition of green is something that is either more energy efficient than the old standard device, or runs alone on renewable energy, I.E. Solar, wind. These Peltier models have an efficiency of below 10%.. That's very poor, more like 'anti-green'.

    • @ottokbron
      @ottokbron 7 років тому +1

      What would you recommend to use instead of this Peltier module, to make a slightly bigger mini fridge? Lets say 6 - 10 cans

    • @fredflintstone8048
      @fredflintstone8048 7 років тому +6

      As far as a refrigeration system I would have to go with some type of efficient vapor compression system perhaps using NH3 as a refrigerant, but really, to be practical for a portable way of keeping 6-10 cans cold I would go with a quality (well insulated) ice chest. It's still one of the most practical ways of keeping food and drinks cold and sometimes for days on end and yet be portable. I really don't see a powered system that practical for hauling around unless it's in some kind of camper or trailer where you can carry the weight along with a battery bank, or generator, or propane tank (some fridges will run on propane as well), and in some cases have solar panels for supplementing power. The modern efficient vapor systems are going to be more energy efficient than Peltier per unit of cooling as well as providing far more cooling capacity.

    Pretty compact design, and it has the capability to freeze to such low temperature, so it's great for things that need to freeze like ice-cream, but i think it should have a bit more space in it. I like it overall though, it's really cool (no pun intended)

    Hey Open Green Energy,
    i have a question, because i want to build this refrigirator larger in a ~30 liter garbage can.
    for this i will use 4-6 Refrigerator Radiator and i dont know if that is enaugh cooling power.
    My 2nd problem is that a friend told me, that i need for every radiator an transformer, is that right?
    and my final question is, because i dont how to program for what i need Microcontroller Board and Relay Module.
    Greetings Nick

    hey!!! Can i ask something???

    Is 9Volts/ or 5Volts is though enough for Peltier module for cooling??? Does it still work to cool something like, water, soda etc.?

    • @claxvii177th6
      @claxvii177th6 5 років тому

      5 definently not. Do it with 12. The most important thing is that you have enough current on your power supply and cooling capacity for your setup though.

      @@claxvii177th6 is 12Volts 2amps is enough to work all systems??

    • @claxvii177th6
      @claxvii177th6 5 років тому

      @@nogheelucido9518 depends on the wattage of your paltier device, you'd be working with 24W, most are optimized to work with around 60W (the 4x4cm at least ) so 4~4.5 amps is your sweet spot, then again, you will only take advantage of this if you can cool your Peltier tiles fast enough. it works with temperature differentials, so in the best case you can get a temperature differential of 67 degrees, so if you want sub-zero temperatures is advised you don't get them anywhere above 50 degrees Celcius. If you get them to stay under 40 on your system you will probably get great performance
