See an ad for a watch and then visit your local AD to see empty watch cases and bored staff scrolling listlessly on their mobiles. Be amazed that not only is the watch advertised to you not available, there is not even a single men’s watch available in store for you to buy or order and that the staff actually laugh at you for enquiring about it.

I've wanted a Submariner all my life. In around 1990 I could have bought one from Watches Of Switzerland, brand new for £1050. No wait list and no silly games. For a working class lad like me, it was unthinkable to spend such a sum on a watch. I've been kicking myself ever since. I still want one, but no one will sell me one.
I think I'll spend my money on an Omega Seamaster 300 M. Not quite the same, but it will do.
Now I'm going to take care of my ribs. Hope one day we both get our dream watch. Good luck!

Wanted to get a sub to celebrate a promotion but the AD sniggered and told me that it was a “long wait”. I walked out into the Omega boutique where I was treated with the utmost respect. Got myself a seamaster and haven’t looked back since.
Have a look at the watch that we will only sell to the grey market lol ... I've moved on from Rolex and into brands that actually care about their customers.

This ad just makes all that even more annoying.

If Wilsdorf was alive today, he wouldn't allow any AD to sell watches to the grey market. 'Bundling' wouldn't have existed. The brand would've had higher respect. People would be able to afford such watches, to achieve their goals.
I had always dreamed of owning a Submariner since I was in my mid-twenties in the 1980s when I scuba-dived as part of my job. I couldn't afford it then. I have recently retired at the age of 65 and wanted to obtain my dream. I went into an authorised dealer and they were amazing and helpful. They got me a Submariner Date in exactly two weeks. I am so happy.

You may notice their UA-cam ads are divided into exact 30 second divisions! Sign of a company that appreciates precision.
I really like how they do commericals like this it's like the commercial is saying "just by it."
This commercial reminds me of those spoof product videos, advertising products you can’t actually buy and don’t really exist.

What’s the point of this ad? Rolex sells the majority of their products to the gray market. Gray market doesn’t need a UA-cam ad, just the comfort of being able to sell your product at a 100% mark up. Rolex has fueled this market which makes the suggested retail prices on their website almost comical. Anyway great looking watch and I would be happy to pay MSRP any day.

Some are more readily available than others, e.g., DateJust and Day-Date gold. Professional watches are more difficult to get, because it takes a higher manufacturing effort, and margins are smaller.
We just hope that rolex can wakeup and read through all the comments. Its heartbreaking
The ADs only sell watches to people who doesn't even wear Rolex watches. They all some how end in the secondary market. Pretty ridiculous.

Absolutely great watch. Absolutely great marketing strategy: to make this watch more exclusive, instead of rising the price, Rolex tries to increase the demand. It is quite obvious: anyone wants just what it is almost impossible to get. Anyway the Submariner is an icon, is one of the best watch in the market: it is beautiful, you can wear it with a suit or with a jeans and a T-shirt at the same way. It is absolutely reliable and resistent. I think that Submariner is almost the perfect watch (I mean, the stainless steel one. the gold one I think it is a little boor for my taste)

I was removed manu militari from the Rolex stand, on the grounds that there was a wealthy client there.

This watch is a treasure. Difficult to get. When you have it you feel lucky.... Rolex handles marketing like nobody else. This should be studied in universities. Rolex is like a library of case studies in Economics. This is why my initial comment. Shortage advertising that increases desire and strengthens brand image ... In full shortage. A genius!

I purchased a pre owned 16610, R serial about 15 years ago when they were still affordable for ordinary people. Seems like a frustrating experience if you want to buy a new Submariner these days; not that I would be in the market for one, much prefer the older case.

By the way, it also takes something special when a customer wants to buy a piece and has to wait forever because your supply management is a mess - or because you have decided not to care for your customers. Holding a Europeanwide channel management position in a global company much bigger than Rolex, and also facing massive backorders, a key decision - out of respect for customers - is to suspend aggressive marketing. And this is where Rolex is showing it does not care.
My advice: Tone it down. Your global company may be much bigger than Rolex. But the decision to allocate or not allocate you a Rolex lies solely with your AD. He must have been unimpressed with you, leaving you...eh, powerless.
