Angelina has always sounded older and now she’s 6 foot plus, there’s no way she can squeeze that voice to sound young. If you want to hear what I mean, check out little Angelina channeling Screaming Jay Hawkins, with arrangement of I Put a Spell On You, Black and White version. It’s real hard core jazz.
As a music educator you may be as dismayed or worried as you are amazed when you listen to her sing “I Put A Spell On You” at age 9. But to put your mind at ease, listen to her at age 10 sing “Every Time We Say Goodbye” or “Summertime”- the one she did with Kork. She sounds like a grown woman and a child at the same time, which may be less about her voice than it is about her character. I think it is safe to say that today at 15 she is more of a woman than many twice her age, and more of child, in the best sense, than many much younger than she.

Mr. Harris, go back to the beginning when she was 7 and a contestant on Norway's Got Talent where she sang Gloomy Sunday by Billie Holiday. Then, Summertime, Fly Me to the Moon, I Put A Spell On You, and you will see and hear that she had always had that mature voice.

She has performed over 130+covers of several genres of music, and has written 5 of her own songs including Million Miles. You will then be able to understand where her 'deep voice' comes from. You'll be hearing vocal skills that professionals can only dream of. Skills such as vibrato, rasp , vocal fry , mellisma, vocal control , just to name a few . With Angelina ,not only will she astound you with her artistry , she will also challenge you on what you know about jazz &blues and how you can articulate those feelings across to your subscribers. This is just the tip of the iceberg with Angelina. She has done so much incredible work over the last 7-8 years. She is just 15 now, but she has been singing like a pro since she was 7. - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 15
- She began singing at the age of one and a half
- At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos.
- *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need.
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney.
- Angelina has covered more than 130 songs and over 65 artists in the last 6 years. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else)
- Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent.
- Angelina has written four of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield", "Oslo", and "Million Miles" (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube)
In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.
- Updates: On Aug 26, 2020 Angelina's Manager/Uncle announced in an interview that they have decided on Republic Records as the best fit for Angelina and she is now signed with them as their "highest priority new artist".
On Nov 6 she released her first single under Republic... "Million Miles"!
On March 19 2021 Angelina released her latest single "7th Heaven"
She has done so much already, but at 15 she is just getting started!!!

The sweet and affectionate participation of little sister Juliette, uncle Michele and, I suspect, even her grandmother and mother in design, with photos of her 2 grandparents who died in 2018 and 2019. I have great admiration for Angelina and for her incredible musical intelligence as well as empathic, at his age having the opportunity to make a video like this, with the participation of her family and with many references to her history and her affections is simply incredible, especially when compared to what the music scene offers. JUST SUBSCRIBED MR. HARRIS. I love that you are so involved with today's youth and doing your part to help guide them. That is very admirable and greatly appreciated. As a huge fan of Angelina I don't believe this song is a good introduction song. She is not just another "child singer" with a mature voice. She has had a mature understanding of music since 3 years old and has been performing worldwide since 8 years old. I hope you will take the time to listen to her just released version of Adele's "All I Ask" to see where she is at currently. I would suggest take 3-4 minutes and listen to Adele first. You have a very rare opportunity to witness the development of a musical prodigy from 6 yo with over 130 videos. In addition to school she got also vocal training at the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program (I read, that this school said, they couldn't teach her more stuff because she has all learned what she could learn in this school ;-) ) - and btw. she plays also grand piano, violin, flute and guitar, make her arrangements herself, wrote a book, sew clothes for herself (partly with art from her grandma like in her first AGT performance and in her music video "Shield").

Hello there Mr. Harris. If you're looking for child singers, there's plenty of child singers to be had, but I agree, a batch of new young singers today are singing from the back of their throats. Angelina's days of sounding like a child ended at eight years old. Her rendition of "Summertime" on Norway's Got Talent in 2014 will confirm this. Cheers!

You have now encountered Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (125+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! This song "Million Miles" was her original, dedicated to her late grandfather and to anyone who has lost someone. She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday , Nancy Sinatra , and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Etta James to Amy Winehouse (and many others in between) and do them all justice! Angelina wrote Million Miles after her maternal grandpa passed away in November 2019 but she also dedicated it to anyone who has lost a loved one. Angelina Jordan is a true music prodigy but the only one who specializes in vocals. While ALL other vocalists have to rely on life experiences to convey emotion, Angelina was born with that talent. When she won Norway's Got Talent at age 8, a woman told her that she was moved to tears and Angelina said, "I didn't mean to". Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019.
Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farci, English and Japanese.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training starting around age 4. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina befriended this girl who was wearing soiled clothing and no shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina so moved by the poor girl, took off her favorite sea green ankle boots and gave them to the poor shoeless girl. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina asked her mother to enter her in Norway’s Got Talent (NGT) at age 5 but that talent show had a minimum age requirement of 7.
Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on UA-cam recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.”
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
The next performance on NGT was her cover of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. Angelina’s acapella performance is astounding especially for a girl who had just turned 8.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on UA-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
On June 27, 2018 Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London.
Angelina performed on America’s Got Talent The Champions which aired in January 2020. She earned the Golden Buzzer for her performance of her arrangement of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. She sang her cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in the Finals but didn’t make it into the final 5 contestants. There is much debate over how and why Angelina was eliminated.
Angelina has covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, all of which are available on UA-cam. The last song she wrote was 7th Heaven. Abrupt ending I think is going to be a part of the way she delivers her music so far. Who knows if that is going to be her trait. Her recent Adel cover is great. By the way, Angelina is the one who is "the Boss" when it comes to her music. She has been re-arranging covers to reflect her take without loosing the flavour of the original artists. She has been gaining popularity since she won Norway's Got Talent. She sounded like this at 6. Really at 18 months there was already something different about her. Her family has kept her away from all the tv, recording and other offers through the years, including big stuff like Disney. Her public performances have always been for charity or international events for dignitaries, etc. She just turned 15 and still goes to school. The song choices and arrangements are hers since the first time in the studio at age 6.

Good professional view on this performance! Your brain works fast! ;-) There is something about the voice of Angelina: She can't help sounding mature. It's the way her vocal cords are probably built (long and flexible I suppose) combined with her young obsession of singing, especially jazz! If you watch her first big performances (age 7) you will see she had an ultimate disarming childlike innocence, but a deep (but light) voice. People were blown away and deeply moved by her! She developed her skills eversince! If you will continue reacting to her, you will probably discover that the next best thing is her emotional connection to lyrics. AJ's voice needs to be listened fully. She has a gifted way to conjure an emotional state, she has excellent range, a recognizable voice, great breath control and technical ability all of which is still developing and growing. Her low registry is natural not forced to make her sound like an adult. Today's music production is overly synthesized down to the instruments. In my opinion void or reduction of conveying the emotional states the artistic singer means to share. Not every song needs, better said, should be belted or sound perfect. Live music always sounds better with all its imperfections... auto tuned cookie cut studio versions is why we lack varied iconic songs these days. It's not the short talent pool of singers, but problem with the commercially oriented music industry. IMHO.

I don't know if you heard, Angelina auditioned for Norway's Got Talent at 7 years old and went on to win the show at just 8 years old. She's 15 years old now, but in the link below is the performance where she is barely 9 years old, remember that’s a 4th grader.
