  • Minister of Employment and Labour, Thulas Nxesi, recently published the Draft Code of Good Practice on the Prevention and Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the World of Work (“Draft Code“) in terms of the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998 (“EEA“) and on the advice of the Commission for Employment Equity. The Draft Code is aimed at addressing the prevention, elimination and management of Violence and Harassment that pervade the world of work. This policy aims to ensure full alignment with the ILO Convention regarding ending violence and harassment in the world of work. Gender-based violence is an issue requiring systemic transformation, which can be greatly influenced by our various social structures and a crucial structure for such change is the workplace.
The BMF will be hosting a workshop on the 15th of October at 10:00 on the Draft Code. The purpose of this workshop is to help our members better understand the Draft Code, hear the views of BMF members on it and consolidate this input into our submission as the BMF to the department of Employment and Labour. This is a process critical to the work of law making and you are invited to be a part of this process.
