- It's not something you usually see in the Bronx. A spider monkey was seen hanging out in her diaper inside a tow truck in the Bronx on Sunday. FOX 5 NY’s Duarte Geraldino spoke with the owner of that truck to talk about his pet spider monkey. He said she’s a “chimp” off the old block.

Back in the day...... Pet monkey's were pretty common. So common in fact, they would literally mail them and had ads for them in the back of boy's magazines. The very last of the pet monkeys that I remember had to be in the very early 90s. Around '93 I remember my babysitter (originally from Miami), had one in Elizabeth, NJ before having to give it up. I don't know what happened to it. I was young but it was either a Capuchin or Spider.
People were attacked. Bitten, scratched, and even faces torn off. They aren't meant to be pets.
@@mexifry222 The whole faces being torn off were with Chimps. Chimps aren't monkeys. For the record. But I agree. They aren't meant to be pets. I was merely pointing out that it was a thing up until the late 80s and early 90s. And apparently still a thing in Florida. I think the only monkeys that should be pets are Capuchins and in only certain circumstances. Like if the Capuchin is a rescue and the person adopting them has the facilities and everything they need to live a good life. Capuchins aren't going to be doing much damage compared to other species.
