    amazing... huge break-through... i predict that in the next 25 years or so whole airframes of space shuttles and hypersonic cruise missiles will be 3d printed in matter of days...

    • @Unmannedair
      @Unmannedair 4 роки тому +1

      Keep dreaming lol... There are simply some things that 3d printing is really horrible at. Repairability for one. If your space shuttle takes damage it's going to be really inconvenient to repair if it is a monocoque chassis. 3d printing is also very slow compared to traditional manufacturing techniques. Only in rare instances is it smarter and wiser to consider a 3d printed part a finished product. 3d printing will change the industry to be sure, but it is far from the paragon futurists wish to believe.

    • @user-gk2cg2th9h
      @user-gk2cg2th9h 3 роки тому

      @@Unmannedair you're talking about today's technology 3d printing has already become faster than it used to and there are many ways it can be improved but the printers 5 or 10 years from now will see a lot of improvement worth size speed and reliability. There are tire companies working on 3d printable tires that replace themselves without ever being removed and that has been going on for a few years. with as much attention as 3d printing has right now it will get better quicker than things that dont get as much attention because 3d printers are simple machines

      Graphite or Diamond conducts heat up to 20 times better then Copper, but graphite does it only in one mineralic axsis and Diamonds are a littlebit too expensive :D

      They did not discuss the tensile strength of the material, but because of the ability to shape the ceramic in unique ways I would not be surprised if there was an optimal geometry to help dissipate impact from a round.

  • @Owlbearwolf2
    @Owlbearwolf2 7 років тому

    Summary: You fire a lazer into a pool of specialized resin, the resin hit by the lazer dries into a polymer, then the completed polymer object is moved to a furnace and heat-treated to become an industrial-grade ceramic while keeping its shape. The details were published in a scientific journal mentioned at the end of the video.
    Remaining questions: What's in the resin? What will it take to mass produce it?

      the answer is... vegetable oil and a hair driar can melt structural steel... and a sky scraper is as close to a blast furnace as you can get without actually trying to build a blast furnace...... and you... angry toast...... helped douche bags from the old world set mankind up to be ruled in fear, driven ignorant passion... and submission... on the eve of the biggest tech explosion that you by nature could not have imagined... and that was necessary .. not only to occur... but to occur with a body of leadership not ruled by its passionate greed in order to produce some potential for eternal life for all life that will ever exist.
      grats... you are a douche bag... and you pissed away everything i had to give you much less what all the actual smart people had to give.... .to feel clever.... or get some shit you dint really need.... much less get great joy from.
      don't worry...you can pay some more of someone elses money to some douche bag to tell you that since you don't get to choose how any living thing defines good... (as eternal continuance)... that it really doesn't count
      you were cheap..... but you were no where near as cheap as a clinton or obama... or any of their associates in media or around the world...
      maybe on some cosmic scale, you were only a little cheaper than me... whatever the case may be... the little feel good you get for saying you don't give a shit.... will equate to needless loss and suffering for all that ever exists after your time.... in place of a greatness and bounty that could have echoed through eternity fortifying and enriching all you ever claimed you loved or found worthwhile with your one brief chance to modify all matter that will ever exist.
      there is a lot in life that very genuinely cannot be achieved with a law.... one of those things is removing mankind from the liability of monsters willing to convince children and women that a law is needed to do what cannot be achieved with a law and you already had the ability to do.
      shame on your god damned name ... and every single innocent one like you... for pissing away my life and so many others... in an act that makes mercy for your shitty ignorance seem stupid.
