1982.........I was 13 years old. This was just another part of the beginning of not only dynamic and phenomenal music in the very early 80s, but summed up the start of my adolescence! THIS IZ IT!!!
This song never gets old even in Iran. We always dance to this tune no matter what....peace on earth..why can't all get along and love and dance rather than stupid war and constant barrage of hateful remarks toward each other. from Iran with love and peace to all.
We had a 22 minute version of this record that a fellow DJ had mixed(early 80's) and my first wife and I would put this on about 1:30AM when we wanted to turn up the lights and send everyone home. Everyone danced, and then they get the hint and start working their way to the exits about 15 mins. in. Happy and exhausted.

Special tidbits left behind to be cherished… We morn for what we loose… They are as free as can be, in many ways, if you believe in any form of life after… My father passed going on 9 years this December, 6 months after my daughter was born. She will be 9 this summer. She is getting to know him from such tidbits. They are very special indeed. I truly wish you peace. It’s different for all. That’s ok. I think. 😅❤️
I was a kid, 80s...always watched this on TV and loved it,stuck in my head for 3 decades, tonight the song is singing in my head and I type the chorus on UA-cam, finally got to know the Band and see the video again, thankful for life😍
I was a produce clerk at the Oakland downtown food mart, near the abandoned fox theater, across from trailways and the blood bank. Worked out at the ywca with people who looked like central casting for San Quentin inmates. In fact, one guy I worked out with played an inmate in a Clint eastwood movie (Diego chairs). This song moved the city.

Class of 87’ and came here from Laid Back’s White Horse by way of Newman’s Are Friends Electric! Man I loved the 80s although music started to get sketchy about 86. But the fun partying atmosphere held out all the way to Grunge and all the self pity and depression that it brought. I just decided to grow up if being a kid was going to be more depressing than having responsibilities!
Being raised by grandparents whom are in their 70s, this song been embedded in my mind ever since I was a kid. I'm 35 n still listening to this 🕺🕺💃💃💃💃💃
Sorry for your loss. I miss my dad too. Mine loudly listened to Oom Pah Pah tuba music that was played by Germans and Polish people. So I'm glad you could find music you and your father both enjoyed.
Condolences to you, I lost my pop's going on 3 years. It's definitely tough, but just like your pop's my Dad liked this jam. They had great taste in music 🎶 🙏👍
My mom used work for The Gap Band as a Tour Manager in Japan, she said she had a great time with them. All of them had great talent on stage and never depended on staff for carrying equipment! I showed her this video for memories, she’s really into the video now! She mentioned that back in the day, Japan didn’t know much of African American artists so she was a bit intimidated by them. But her opinion about African American music and artists changed because of these guys. Overall, she wants to thank the Band for such a great time, and just being lit in general. Arigato!
I remembered I played the extended version in 1982 at the Battle of the Band. Everyone was thinking out loud what the hell is that all about. Then the lyrics broke out…then everyone broke out getting down.

They dropped a bomb on me
Do y’all think the new generation better or the old generation
1982.........I was 13 years old. This was just another part of the beginning of not only dynamic and phenomenal music in the very early 80s, but summed up the start of my adolescence! THIS IZ IT!!!
Biased bc I too cut my teething starting in the 80's, but even the one hit wonders were so good you still know every word today
I was born in 83. This song has been popular ever since I can remember.
I love this song so much.
We're the same age.
They dropped a bomb on you @phillygrl69!!!
Saaaammmmeeee
This song never gets old even in Iran. We always dance to this tune no matter what....peace on earth..why can't all get along and love and dance rather than stupid war and constant barrage of hateful remarks toward each other. from Iran with love and peace to all.
👍✌️👋 🪷

@@kennethrobinson1672 you are so right. War mongols and weapon manufactures, trust companies, 5 sister would not allow a peaceful life on earth.

Love this classic 😊
I wish radio stations still played hits like this often.
that's why radio is dead. they won't play good music because it will offend people. oh boo hoo.
Right
they play it ALL the time in Polk COunty FL
There are literal radio stations that play nothing but oldies. All the classics. You're tuned in on the wrong stations buttercup 😊

We had a 22 minute version of this record that a fellow DJ had mixed(early 80's) and my first wife and I would put this on about 1:30AM when we wanted to turn up the lights and send everyone home. Everyone danced, and then they get the hint and start working their way to the exits about 15 mins. in. Happy and exhausted.
keepin it fresh , 2019.....

This is a song that will get every party going...it will be listened to for decades and beyond...absolute party starter!
Especially in Israel responding to those attacks on October 7
Cuando había suficiente material para la buena música, hoy es parte de una era musical insuperable en todos los sentidos. Inigualable e irrepetible. Saludos a todos los que disfrutaron esa maravillosa etapa musical.
Just found this in my dad's UA-cam history after unexpectedly passing. He listened to it very often apparently. Now I shall too.
He had great taste in music, now you do too! God bless. ☮️❤️🎸🎸🎸
Special tidbits left behind to be cherished…
We morn for what we loose…
They are as free as can be, in many ways, if you believe in any form of life after…
My father passed going on 9 years this December, 6 months after my daughter was born.
She will be 9 this summer.
She is getting to know him from such tidbits.
They are very special indeed.
I truly wish you peace.
It’s different for all.
That’s ok.
I think.
😅❤️
Sorry for your loss God bless you and your family stay strong for your dad 👨

I was a kid, 80s...always watched this on TV and loved it,stuck in my head for 3 decades, tonight the song is singing in my head and I type the chorus on UA-cam, finally got to know the Band and see the video again, thankful for life😍
I was a produce clerk at the Oakland downtown food mart, near the abandoned fox theater, across from trailways and the blood bank. Worked out at the ywca with people who looked like central casting for San Quentin inmates. In fact, one guy I worked out with played an inmate in a Clint eastwood movie (Diego chairs). This song moved the city.
I used to rollerskate to this way back in the day, still a great work out song.
Cindy
dude, I still rollerskate to my work every day, playing this song!

your mom liked drugging men then taking advantage of them? WOW! this is what the song talks about.
This song was the "bomb" back in the early 80s . I'm 60 and can appreciate The Gap Band still . How cool is that ?

very cool 😎
I was skating to this song in 1984,,I fell down, And my right leg flew up and hit a brick wall,, My right heel was cracked..I wore a cast for 4 months!! But I had the Best time skating to this song;! At Stardust Skate Arena,1984!!!!🤣✌️👍🏵️🌺🌸🌼🥀💜💜💜💜💯🌀
This song still hits so hard I love it. Some songs are so funky they are timeless!
WARNING: Listening to even 30 seconds of this song will make roller skates magically appear on your feet.
😆
ok it was the skate ring jam..
Oh how I wish roller rinks were more prevalent when I was growing up. I bet this would be amazing to roller skate to..
Lol I almost spit my coke out.

Love this song. My Pop loved this song. Anytime it came on the radio he'd turn up the radio and say "This Is A Good Tune!!". R.I.P. Pop!! ❤❤❤❤
Sorry for your loss. I miss my dad too. Mine loudly listened to Oom Pah Pah tuba music that was played by Germans and Polish people. So I'm glad you could find music you and your father both enjoyed.
Absolutely 🔥❤️💯
Condolences. He had great taste in music!
Condolences to you, I lost my pop's going on 3 years. It's definitely tough, but just like your pop's my Dad liked this jam.
They had great taste in music 🎶

My mom used work for The Gap Band as a Tour Manager in Japan, she said she had a great time with them. All of them had great talent on stage and never depended on staff for carrying equipment! I showed her this video for memories, she’s really into the video now!
She mentioned that back in the day, Japan didn’t know much of African American artists so she was a bit intimidated by them. But her opinion about African American music and artists changed because of these guys. Overall, she wants to thank the Band for such a great time, and just being lit in general.
Arigato!
Very cool man. Enjoyed your story . . Thanks for sharing it

I remembered I played the extended version in 1982 at the Battle of the Band. Everyone was thinking out loud what the hell is that all about. Then the lyrics broke out…then everyone broke out getting down.
